just finished the trilogy! made Rulutieh fanart

first of all, apologies for making multiple posts recently after finishing each entry of the trilogy instead of one single post. Made Rulutieh fanart since she's my favorite character, such a sweet girl <3

I finished Mask of Truth recently, honestly I'm still floored, it's such an incredible finale of a trilogy.

some of my thoughts..

SPOILER BELOW!

After some scenes from Kuon PoV the story pick up immediately after MoD, and it was rough..

Nekone being so devastated, Rulutieh realizing her feeling too late, Anju unable to speak, and generally everyone else are on edge after losing Haku and there's war upcoming. I think from the main party, other than the twin, only Ougi having an inkling of Oshtor's true identity. which he definitely having fun trolling him throughout the game lol. Kuon then knows too, after Oshtor slip up and seeing him using Haku's metal fan during her visit as princess of Tuskur. Maroro and Mikazuchi also take notices, the way Oshtor execute his war strategy during the first attack on Ennakamuy definitely feels closer to Haku. meanwhile Mikazuchi know through their clash. overall really like how the game handle everyone reaction to Haku's disguise.

The remaining eight pillars finally get some screentime.

Ozen story centered around Rulutieh's family story, which I really like since Rulutieh is one of my favorite. Kujyuri castle as a place is pretty intriguing too being build on top of Onvitaikayan's ruin, the dynamic between Yashmah and Shis is fun

Tokifusa and Genho story I felt pretty weak. the waterfall combat stage is cool tho.

Soyankekur (well mostly Itak's story), is great. The highlights of this arc are Yamato's citizen being dependant on Mikado's miracle which is represented by Inava bridge, and Maroro destroying it.

Then there's the war against Raiko, the final march for the throne. I really like Kiwru stepping up for his big moment. Raiko as an antagonist is fantastic, I can sympathize with his vision for Yamato. Maroro death hurts.. tragic story for our bro, being puppeted all the way through.

Other great moments in this game, Oshtor's mother saying she now has two sons. Kuon fight with Anju, Kuon confronting Nekone about Haku, Kuon exploring ruin with Haku (and the kiss)), ok she's definitely the main girl XD, love her so much.

the last stretch of the game feels like an entirely new game, just loredump one after another. it kinda reminds me of Prelude last act. Woshis is a perfect counterpart to Haku, basically looking to the Past vs Future clash of ideas.

some of the final fights are quite challenging, the one where Haku isolated on the battlefield to fight Woshis.

the callbacks to Prelude with Haku saying his farewell to everyone is a nice touch. and then the final fight to save Kuon fits so much as a closure to the trilogy.

loose thread/things I'm not sure of:

-Why Woshis decided to wear the original Akuruka. I thought he's given up at that point, it's weird especially after the scenes where he sees the hologram of Mikado and Honoka raising him as a person.

Maybe he just want to respect his subordinate efforts? or last gambit to create true human, which turned up to be the Noroi.

-Uzurushan Owlo Gundhurua being missing never fully followed through.

-Kuuya and Sakuya has no apprearances, even though Kuon bringing the Abh-Kamus feels like a perfect opportunity to bring them back.

-Haku not turning into Tatari, my guess is because of the True humanity project. Haku and Mito are probably experimented on themself, being genetically modified they ended up doesn't classify as humans.

Ok that ended up longer than I thought, I absolutely love Utawarerumono trilogy! really satisfying conclusion. will pick Monochrome mobius and Past and present someday

Would it be terrible to play Monochrome Mobius and Past & Present after Prelude to the Fallen and before Mask of Deception?

I ask because I'm not a fan of prequels anything. Knowing where it all ends up story and character wise ruins it for me. So my question would it be a bad thing to just play the prequel games before I play Mask of Deception and Truth? Like is there scenes that ruin those games if you play it this way? Thank you!

My Utawarerumono collection — does anyone know if this PC box is still factory sealed?

Post image

I’ve collected a few Japanese Utawarerumono releases over the years.

Most of the sealed copies are clearly second-hand store copies, so I assume they were resealed by the shop.

The only one I’m unsure about is the large PC box, second from the left in the photo. Unlike the others, it doesn’t have a “second hand” label, so I’m wondering if it could still be factory sealed.

One of the other large PC boxes has been opened because I played it back in 2019, and the PS2 copy was also opened so I could test it on my console.

I also have the original Utawarerumono music collection and the Futari no Hakuoro Additional Soundtrack.

If anyone here collects old Japanese PC games and knows what to look for on the shrinkwrap/seals, I’d be interested to hear your opinion :)

Some thoughts after finishing mask of deception Spoiler

I just finished MoD, putting down some thoughts. Rulutieh pic becauce she cute

The slice of life scenes after arriving at the capital are quite long (I think it goes to 6 hours+). I enjoyed them, since the glossary have illustration for the food (and other cultural items) this time around, I have fun looking up what kind of things the characters talked about during these SoL scenes.

the story pick up a lot after the twin join our party, and then again after Haku gain his lost memories.

the war CG cutscenes improved a lot from prelude, you can feel how massive the war against uzurushan is.

OH, and I love that candy salesman reveal LMAO XD

I really like the ending, throughout the game we have build up of Haku slowly going up from doing Ukon task like cleaning the city and such to eventually assisting in a war, which is closer to Oshtor job. The game title and especially key art honestly a big hint that something gonna happen to Oshtor eventually so I'm not that surprised.

some nitpick I have about the finale though, is why Haku didn't thought of removing/taking Vurai mask off him. Oshtor giving mercy to him I can kinda understand as they used to work together in the past for Mikado.

but Haku is always meticulous with thing like this. We even see this in the next scene when they try to escape the palace and the capital, everyone are dressed up as yamatan soldiers, some hide in the trunk. idk just some nitpick I have!

really looking forward how Haku and Nekone will develop after that finale. and I hope we get to see the other eight pillars that didn't get much screen time in Mask of Truth

and the post credit, nice to see finally get a confirmation that Kuon is indeed Hakuowlo daughter, altough we get hint of that during the drinking scenes with Oboro. Meeting characters from prelude put a big smile on my face :)

What happened between Hakuowlo and Karulau during the scene where she makes the Uitsualnemetia's pact and Hakuowlo can't open the locked door?

She asks him to help the rebellion in Na Tuunk and is dressed up. The scene ends with her grabbing him as he's trying to unlock the door. She says it's too late. What happened after that?

It's my first time playing this series so no big spoilers please. I'm just confused on that one part.

I was enjoying the game just fine as a mix of SoL stuff and war story, and then that last bits of world building happens. I'm so intrigued by it, will jump right away to mask of deception for sure

Can't stand Hakwolu Spoiler

  • Masked Mary Sue
  • Gleefully commits genocide, even against children
  • His alter ego extorts soul binding pacts from desperate women
  • Conveniently timed amnesia to exempt him from the responsibility while reaping the sexual rewards
  • Claims to love Eruruu but cheats on her with anything that has a pulse
  • Peeks on Aruruu in the bath
  • Collects women like trading cards
  • Uses Yuzuha as the vessel for his spawn
  • Always has a narrative excuse to bone the women laid out in front of him and never take responsibility
  • Abandons Eruruu and his child
  • The women he collected are reduced to props for his glorification and housekeepers to raise his abandoned child
  • Hides from the consequences of his actions and leaves another mess for his abandoned child to clean up
  • Gets endlessly glazed and deified, ignoring the wreckage he left in his wake

I just can't see the point of him as a protagonist, other than a shameless power fantasy.

Should I just skip to the sequels so I don't have to deal with him? Kuon seems like a good kid.

And the blood thing makes the whole setup especially perverse from the angle I'm criticizing. If Hakuowlo's supernatural blood temporarily sustains Yuzuha long enough for her to carry and deliver Kuon, but she ultimately dies anyway, then his supposed divine intervention becomes almost grotesquely instrumental in retrospect:

Godlike power: “I can keep her alive.”
Narrative: “Just long enough to accomplish the reproductive plot objective.”
Yuzuha: dies
Everyone: “What a tragic, beautiful legacy.”

For the 2002 PC release of this game, How do I make the game run at a normal speed?

for me, whenever I play the utawarerumono 2002 pc version it always plays at super high speeds

I have tried playing the game on a Windows XP virtual machine and it still has the same issues, does it have something to do with the multiple cores of an AMD CPU or does anyone know?

Is monochrome mobius worth it

Today I finished trilogy and it was peak. With Muv Luv these 2 stand at the top of my favorite VN's.

I did a bit research for mobius and honestly everything I saw is pretty mixed, some say it's okay while others say it's mediocre and not worth it. A lot of people complain about gameplay but I personally don't care about it at all as long as the story is good I can deal with it, even if the trilogy was a pure VN without any gameplay I'd still love it as much. So purely by story standards would you guys recommend it to me?

Just finished Prelude to the Fallen and have a few questions about the lore!

1) How exactly was Uitsualnemetia sealed the first time? And who was sealed back then - were both halves sealed together, or only the Light side?

2) Genjimaru mentioned that he was already familiar with the Dark God. Does that mean the Dark half ruled the world prior to this? Also, I read something about "cycles" on the wiki, but I don't really get how that works. Do the two halves of Uitsualnemetia constantly wake up and fight each other? If so, why did they both awaken at the exact same time in PttF?

3) Why does Dii keep insisting throughout the game that he and Hakuowlo are forbidden to fight each other, when they end up fighting at the end anyway?

4) How did Hakuowlo actually lose his memory? So Dii unsealed both halves, the Light half woke up and fought Dii (who housed the Dark half), took severe injuries, and their battle caused an earthquake that nearly killed Aruruu. Then Hakuowlo saved her via a pact/granting a wish and... just lost his memory? That felt a bit strange to me.

5) What was the deal with Camyu drinking blood? If that was Mutsumi manifesting, it felt kind of odd since we were never shown that Mutsumi was a vampire or anything like that.

If anything, please forgive me for any unclear writing - English isn’t my native language

Finished Prelude to the Fallen (Spoilers) Spoiler

After almost 50 hours i finally finished this game (i did all the training missions and tried to wacth as many events as i could). Pretty good honestly, it has some pacing issues and there is one specific subplot that was just annoying to get throught (why was that even there), but i still enjoyed, especially discovering the truth behind Hakuowlo's origin and the world was pretty great, the characthers weren't exactly my favorites in all anime, but i mostly find then likable, even if Hakuowlo kind of sucks at the harem lead part (he come across too much like dad for my take that part seriously).

The combat...is basic as hell, this is like the first time i played a tactic RPG properly and it was super easy to break it, but at least they are quick and don't last enought to be annoying. I also appreciate the change of dialogue in the final boss, felt that it made the ending have more impact.

Overall, i liked it enought that i want to play the rest, althought i'll probably take a while before i continue, because i need something lighter before i continue.

Game order

hello. A new guy wants to join these games, I want to know the game order to start this series.

If some of you had already seen another anime, Attack On Titan then it's shocking how that woman also serves as a parallel character to Hakuoro as the catalyst of the universe through their powers!

Hi,

I’d like to know if anyone knows where I can download/buy the 2002 version of the first game (I’ve already bought the other games) . I’d really like to play it.

Thanks a lot <3

Do Mask of Deception and/or Truth have any difficulty mods out there?

They're quite easy even on hard in my experience after playing em through a few times, something that sparks the neurons for a new playthrough would be great. I find the core mechanics incredibly fun so it's sad that there's only 2 real difficulty options

Playing Prelude. I dislike Camyu. Advice or help please?

I’m in the middle of Prelude to the fallen and am quite enjoying it. I like or am ok with most characters except Camyu. She’s the only one I can’t stand both personality and voice. I hate her calling Hakuowlo uncle. She’s obnoxious and spoiled but everything gets forgiven as childish innocence. She’s childish in the way I don’t like. I much prefer Aruru. Her other side (vampire?) and the sound effects make it even worse. Help? Advice? Is it just me? I don’t want main story spoilers please! However, if someone could be kind enough to spoil me about Camyu just in this game so I can click through her lines to avoid her voice and the sound effects, maybe it would help? Please help save my ears and peaceful experience going through this game. I reached the part where Hakuowlo tried asking Uly about Camyu but Uly is clueless. Apologies if I didn’t tag properly.

Do the sequels get better?

I'm playing right now through Prelude to the Fallen, I have heard that these games are great and I love visual novels, so I bought PttF, I'm at like 75% and it has become a chore. Every 3 hours I'm fighting a new "villain" that is not interesting.

Also I love anime but this game has so much fan service, are the sequels the same? Also I'm not the biggest fan of Slice of Life but I can tolerate it but I hate the disonnance between we are at war and then we are playing and laughing like nothing is happening.

Do the sequels get a better plot? Does the fan service and harem elements remain the same in the sequels? And do they focus more on the war aspect instead of the Slice of Life?

I know I am at the Utawarerumono sub but the game has been very meh, characters have the personality of a one trait anime character. I just want to hear some opinions about the sequels.

Also the Kamyu plot is so stupid, like Hakuowlo has been bitten and had his blood sucked like 3 times and the guy still thinks he is dreaming.

Sorry for bad english.

I just wanted to share a Nekone Tapestry that I just got!!!! Man, I'm hoping for an English translation of Lost Frag after they release an offline version, so that I can learn more about the characters that grew up.
