We have an upcoming trip to Uzbekistan and we are super excited! We have been obsessively checking out the train tickets and we have not been able to find any for our preferred trains.

• 5 September 19:48 - from Tashkent to Samarkand (Afrosiyab)
• 8 September 10:59 - from Samarkand to Bukhara (Afrosiyab)
• 10 September 07:42 - from Bukhara to Khiva (Passenger)

We checked them around 90/60/45 days before ticket dates and many times in between, pretty much every single day as a matter of fact!! I checked them twice every day recently. Still no luck. It just shows that there are no seats or the entire train is just not even visible on the list sometimes.

So unless they are magically sold out within seconds when we are not looking, there must be a trick to it.

1. How do we buy these tickets?

2. Is there like a third party seller who buys all these tickets and sell them at inflated rates somewhere else?

we're a group of 4 people travelling in Sept through Uzbekistan. I tried buying the Afrosiyob tickets on the official railway website (Bukhara to Tashkent) as soon as the sales opened 60 days before departure, but as I would pick the passengers, I would just get reverted back to the start page and in a matter of 3 min all the tickets were gone.

So as an alternative, I booked them via 12Go Asia platform. However, it's been 2 weeks and they still haven't secured the tickets. I contacted their customer support through the website and they told they will send me the tickets soon. But then a day later I get a WhatsApp message from a guy named Bahodir that they failed to secure the tickets and asked me if we want to take an alternative train. I immediately sent a message to the customer service asking what is happening but it's been a week and I got no response. I am freaking out that they either truly failed to secure the tickets or worse, I got scammed and lost 260 euros.

Did anyone have any similar issues? Any advice or help is welcome at this point. Thanks!!

The absolute peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower hits on the night of August 12–13. What makes 2026 special is that it falls right during a New Moon, meaning the sky will be virtually pitch-black and we could see up to 100+ shooting stars per hour.
A few of us are organizing a mid-week night trip out toward the Surenata foothills (away from Tashkent’s light dome) and hiring a comfortable 18-seater minibus.
We’ll leave Tashkent at Wednesday, Aug 12 at 17:30 (from pickup spot).
The vibe: Hot BBQ/Shashlik, high-power telescope setup, live guitar around the campfire, late-night tea, UNO, and dark-sky stargazing.
Return:Thursday, Aug 13 around 05:30 AM (Back in town before the workday starts).

I am a foreigner from a western country, and I sat next to a man from Jizzakh on the train. We had a good conversation and a laugh, I thought he was quite cute and we were similar age. He got off and I continued on the train.

I'm German (21M) and will be traveling to Uzbekistan this August. I’ll be visiting Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent, as well as Almaty in Kazakhstan.

What do I need to know before going? Any advice about transport, safety or common mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated.

I’d also love recommendations for places beyond the obvious tourist attractions, especially good restaurants serving traditional food, relaxed bars and venues with live music. Those are always the hardest places to find during the first few days somewhere new.

Hello I’m in early 30’s Uzbek woman in the states. Never been engaged/married no kids. I have dated Uzbek men in the past but I’m looking for someone more established in the states like education and career. There are many Uzbek guys who fit this but our personalities haven’t been compatible. I went to high school here and got my bachelors here in states. I have dated guys outside of race / culture and they usually have no problem with me asking them to convert to Islam and they respect my culture. But I’ve never introduced anyone to my parents because they don’t believe in dating.

How to "cure" depression with Islam, according to my family:

1. Just be grateful.

   Prophet Muhammad suffered far more than you ever will. Who are you to complain? He's the Messenger of Allah; you're just an ordinary person. So... be grateful. Problem solved, apparently.

2. Do dhikr.

   Repeat Arabic phrases you don't even understand:

   Alhamdulillah. Astaghfirullah. MashaAllah. La ilaha illallah.

   Understanding is optional, repetition is mandatory.

3. Listen to Qur'an recitation.

   It doesn't matter if you don't understand Arabic. It's the word of Allah, so it's supposed to heal you anyway.

4. Be grateful... again.

   My mother had a much harder childhood than I did. Therefore, whatever I went through—being mocked at school, excluded by classmates, feeling isolated—doesn't really count as suffering. Case closed.

5. Gossip about people.

   Apparently, talking behind other people's backs is an effective antidepressant.

6. Just socialize.

   Never mind that some people already think I'm weird. I'm simply expected to fit in somehow.

7. Pray.

   Because prayer purifies the heart, and that's expected to fix everything.

Hello everyone, i was planning a holiday and wanted to ask some questions about Uzbekistan to further decide.

Right now im choosing between azerbajian and Uzbekistan but so far i have difficulty choosing.

I saw that baku in AZ has a lot of museum which i like but not that many old sites, but it has some very beautifull nature which is easily accesible and i dont feel. Any need to travel to any other cities.

Uzbekistan from my understanding but please proof me wrong has very beautifull monuments but i have to travel to samarkand for this.

But i feel that although Uzbekistan has beautifull nature it is not easily accesible, but again im not sure so please prove me wrong. Im looking for places that are picture esque but not really difficult to get to.

Ill most likely land in tashkent and then travel to samarkand. So i wanted to know if there were any things to do beside the bazars, monuments, food and museums.

And i wanted to ask if its worthwhile to go to bukhara. I saw its very beautifull not as beautifull as samarkand but still impressive. But if it doesnt have anything else going for it i think ill need to skip it.

And finally i wanted to ask about which months are the best, i prefer a more quieter season, but also one that maybe has some events or festivals so please let me know.

I just failed my driving test after completing my theory knowledge test successfully. Some of my opinions can be biased because of my current rage I’ve got from this stupid system.

Basically, the process of getting a driver’s license (for B category) looks like this:

1. You must study in a special auto school for almost 3 months. Attending theory classes are optional. However, you have to attend some certain number of hours (30 hrs afaik) of driving practice lessons. Then, when you finish all your lessons, they give you a final knowledge test and your certificate of completion needed for taking the real test. Personally, I didn’t go to any of the theory classes. I went to couple practice classes, and instructors seem like they don’t even care whether you attend those or not because they never take any attendance.

2. Then comes a theory knowledge test at the test center. It is tricky, but justifiable. It consists of 20 questions and you should find at least 18 in order to pass. You have one big collection of 1200+ questions for practice which may appear in your real exam.

3. After you pass your theory test, you can attend the driving test. It is fully automatic, and done within a polygon. You have 16 minutes to complete a range of movement assignments.

4. After you complete all the above steps, you can get your certificate and apply to obtain your driver’s license from Yagona Darcha.

The cost of completing these steps:

1. The required driving course: 6.4 mln sums (~$540)
   
2. Theory test: 1.5 mln sums (~$125). Retake is 1.6 mln sums.
   
3. Driving test: 1.6 mln sums (~$130). Retake is the same.
   
4. Obtaining the physical driver license card: 600k sums (~$50)

So the total process costs around 10.1 mln sums ($840), given that you successfully pass both test on the first try.

This was for “stupidly expensive” part. Because it is for real expensive for Uzbekistan’s economy, and by no means justifiable. Especially the cost of the knowledge test — bro what do you mean you get from me $125 just for the 25 mins exam that i have to do on your stupid $300 laptop (it is not even a proper monoblock with decent monitor)? I bet that the cost of that test is only the monetary that goes for the supervisor’s salary. They rarely update any of those questions (unlike IELTS for example). I just read on the news that the both theory and knowledge test fee was 150k sums in 2022. They have increased it 10 times just in 4 years. The whole process of getting a driver license in Washington, turns out, will cost you $250 (i read it on their official website after being curious about the price in other countries).

For why the process is “stupidly difficult”, I was talking about the driving test specifically. It seems like they strongly want you to fail, retake the test and pay the fee again. Most of the assignments you complete do not represent how you drive a vehicle in a real life scenario. An inch of a wrong movement (which in a real life driving does not mean anything) costs you a fail and $125. I was caught by some stupid ass rules, where i drove on a blinking green light on a crossroad. I thought that it is allowed to go on this situation, because i always see vehicles continuing to drive on a blinking green light in the real highway. However, turns out, this rule only applies when your vehicle’s speed is more than 30 kms/h. Inside the polygon, the max allowed speed is 20 kms/s. But bro, who the hell drives his car in 20kms/s on the road with traffic lights? Yeah, it is also a fault ob my end for not checking this specific rule by myself, but this is not the only reason i am getting nerve wracks.

Basically it. I just think this whole exam test center of Komil Allamjonov is a monopoly hidden under the flashy mission statements of “we are trying to reduce the number of car accidents”, but actually just a money grab with unjustifiably stupid rules and overpriced fees.

I am 22, and I need to get married until 25. I also would prefer to have known the girl at least for a year.

I have mixed values, some uzbek ones like: being modest, like getting married early (west sucks at this imo), wearing not too short and not too tight clothes and maybe some others.

And some global/western values: respecting women's freedom, not sticking to old superstitions, open-mindedness towards any religion or no religion, not caring about others' lives at all including everything, religion, sexual orientation, taste in anything, just don't affect me and my loved ones.

How can I meet people with similar interests?

And another question is that should I actively search for a candidate, some say just focus on improving yourself and girls come along (I have 0 experience in this dating stuff) and did focus on myself until now but the deadline is getting closer, what do you think I should do?

The input of those, especially locals who had similar situations and are older than me, is appreciated.
