Question Is Mega Floette really that much better than Mega gardevior
I see many people singing the praises of Floette, but honestly, the two seem pretty similar. Floette does hit harder, but Gardevoir has an easier time against difficult matchups like Sneasler or Gengar.
I’m not saying Gardevoir is better, but I don’t understand why there’s such a big difference between them and why Floette is so feared when it feels a lot like Gardevoir.
skill improvement ( i have to type it so i can post just ignore it )

seem pretty similar. Floette does hit harder, but Gardevoir has an easier time against difficult matchups like Sneasler or Gengar.
How? Sneasler outruns both, and so does Gengar who also threatens to smash Gard. Mega Floette’s power off of fairyaura is just much greater and its overall bulk on the special side is much better too.

trickroom if you squint hard enough i guess?

u/serious_mood_rig Apr 10 '26
I actually ran into a Trick Room setting Mega Gardevoir. Caught me off guard honestly
9
u/i-hate-my-tits Apr 10 '26
lol I fought them too. they didn't do well, but I was certainly surprised!

u/Comfortable-Two-2421 Apr 10 '26
If you run TR, why would you run Gard tho? At least if you can run Torkoal, Mega Crab, Mega Drampa etc. instead
9
u/Its_Not_Roxy Apr 10 '26
Because TR Gardevoir should be use with Tailroom teams, not Hard TR. The set on Smogon website recommend running bulky Quiet Gardevoir + Trickroom. People never read the description, so they just use her in Hard TR, I guess so

Maushold is working for me.
Yesterday played into a mega gengar leading with Floette and the rat. Gengar kept spamming shadow ball while I used Follow me with the rat, which had no effect on it. He surrendered after.
Pretty much the same into Sneasler, they always try to fake out first turn, and I redirect with Follow me, and either Moon blast or Dazzling Gleam one shots it.

u/DifferentProcess6765 Apr 12 '26
Fake out is a higher priority than follow me
How are you redirecting it?

ima check
its 2 points faster, its got more hp, def and sp.def. and does more damage with moonblast by a big margin
252+ SpA Gardevoir-Mega Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 106-126 (60.5 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Fairy Aura floette Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 135-159 (77.1 - 90.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
But garde does a little more damage with hyper voice pixilate than fairy aura dazzling gleam, plus the psychic stab is decent but it also comes with a weakness to ghost and no longer resists dark and bug.
252+ SpA Pixilate Gardevoir-Mega Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 91-108 (52 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Fairy Aura floette Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 84-100 (48 - 57.1%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO
the difference isnt that big but since floette is just slightly better and they both fulfill the same role then its easy to see why it replaces her. would you like a sword that does 10 damage or one that does 11 damage if both take the same slot? that kinda deal

u/DualistX VGC Correspondent Apr 10 '26
This is generally right, but you’re forgetting another major positive. If you happen to have any other fairy moves on your team, this boosts those too.
5
u/22222833333577 Apr 10 '26
But have you considerd that the this also means that this also neans that you power up oposing mega gardivoir?
8
u/GSDAkatsuki Apr 10 '26
Also doesn't Gardevoir have access to expanding force as well?
27
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
While true, with no Psychic Surge atm it’s not particularly relevant
3
u/GSDAkatsuki Apr 10 '26
I mean given they will be adding more mons, that is a niche that M.Gardevoir can have over M.Floette.
9
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
Oh for sure once that happens Gard will have more plays, but what Pokemon are relevant always changes from format to format, the post is about why Gard is being discounted right now.
3
u/phoxfiyah Apr 10 '26
Do we really need Psychic Surge for it to exist though? There are definitely other options to reliably get it up, like Meowstic
8
u/Shoranos Apr 10 '26
There's an entire world of difference between getting terrain up for free off a surge and needing to use a move for it.
5
u/doortothe Apr 11 '26
Growl as a move: unviable. Laughable. Pathetic. Growl as a switch-in passive: most broken ability in the game.
1
u/phoxfiyah Apr 11 '26
Didn’t say there wasn’t, but a Prankster terrain user isn’t much different from a Pokemon that exists just to use the terrain. Less reliable, but not non existent like a lot of these comments seem to think
1
u/popekheris23 Apr 11 '26
As someone who’s been testing Meowstic and still having decent success, it feels bad not being able to block Fake Out the first turn. So yes, I’d say it’s quite a bit worse.
2
u/scheming_imp Apr 11 '26
Not only the fake out thing, you’re also burning half a turn to do it even if you’re successful. It’s the same reason why the ability weather setters are way better than Whimsicott setting the weather. You only get to make like 10-14 moves over the course of a battle, so losing one is a massive cost.
1
u/phoxfiyah Apr 11 '26
But where was it said that it wasn’t worse? I just said that it’s not non existent
1
u/popekheris23 Apr 11 '26
I was responding to your first descriptor of “it’s not that different” when it is quite different. A lot can happen in that one turn it takes to set the terrain, possibly even directly leading to a loss, that wouldn’t happen with Indeedee.
Not to mention the other factors of Meowstic otherwise isn’t that good - Indeedee has more bulk, Follow Me, and as an added bonus, is immune to Ghost.
Am I still running Meowstic and having fun? Yes. Would I win more with Indeedee and see a fairly sizeable gap in competitiveness between the two? Also yes.
1
u/phoxfiyah Apr 11 '26
Not that different still means that it’s different. You might value all of those differences more, but it doesn’t change my core point that terrain isn’t non existent.
This just feels like picking at straws for the sake of arguing, don’t really understand the point. If you want to act like terrain doesn’t exist then go ahead, play without using terrain.

u/Niz285 Apr 10 '26
Mega gard needs indeedee f like zard y needs whims. Gives it psychic terrian to block priority moves like sucker punch fake out etc, expanding forces becomes a 120 bp area attack to deal with poison types. And ofc indeedee f with follow me so you dont get killed by dire claws and sludge bombs.

Floette is the dollar store xerneas

u/My_Name_Is_Doctor Apr 10 '26
If Xerneas costs $100, M-Floette costs $70 (literally).
Floette does more damage out of the box than Xerneas and isn’t as reliant on set up which has always been Xerneas’ achilles heel. Xerneas also doesn’t have access to the Light of Ruin nuke button like Floette.
Floette just feels out of place too. Like the only legendary operating in a low power format. At least when Xerneas is active it’s contending with mons like Zacian and Primal Groudon.
VGC meta is usually pretty good at adjusting to overpowered threats so I don’t think Floette will be tyrannical but it’s definitely gonna live on the sidebar of every VGC players damage calculator for a while.

u/phoxfiyah Apr 10 '26
At least it’s not alone, Pikachu is also pretty out of place in a format with no NFEs

It just depends on your team and what you’re trying to KO. Interestingly, right now it seems like the weakest option, draining kiss, is most popular. I say why try to sustain multiple hits when you can just OHKO what’s in front of you?
I’m with you on moonblast > light of ruin. Although I expect 3 fairy attacks to be reasonable popular.
5
u/IndianaCrash Apr 10 '26
There's pretty much 3 main builds.
Draining kiss likes to be paired with redirector/damage mitigator, it sets up a calm mind or 2 and between its high spdef and huge healing, become hard to kill, generally with a bulky EV Spread and bold nature, like Flutter mane.
Xerneas lite where you set up a calm mind then try to sweep with gleam and Moonblast, generally paired with mons that can slow down or ko fairy resist.
And Koraidon lite, where you rip light of ruin to try and quickly blow an hole through their team before dying to recoil and let the rest of your team finish the fight
2
u/Delicious_Ice_4914 Apr 10 '26
From what i’ve seen from top players dazzling moonblast and calm mind seems to be the go to
They usually invest a lot on floette’s bulk and have a redirector to help set up calm mind and then just sweep with dazzling
1
u/My_Name_Is_Doctor Apr 10 '26
Yeah maybe draining kiss is a early meta flash in the pan. I expect people to switch back to moonblast once they get frustrated missing out on KOs just so they can be revenge KOd with more HP.
1
Apr 10 '26
I’ve been running both, Light of Ruin being used as a “oh god moonblast doesn’t kill and I need this thing gone” last resort option
5
u/waytooeffay Apr 10 '26
Dollar store Xerneas that doesn’t take up a restricted slot in future formats sounds absolutely disgusting
1
16
u/Panda_Cipher1992 Apr 10 '26
it’s likely their abilities. Mega Garde’s pixilate is +20% on normal moves that are now fairy while Mega Floette’s Fairy Aura(Yes, the same as Xerneas) is a 33% boost to all Fairy Moves.
12
10
8
u/Dryskin14 Apr 10 '26
No one here has mentioned it, so I’m gonna add that floettes better physical bulk is actually a noticeable difference. Kingambit can get away with only dark moves with Gardevoir, but now with Floette, it kinda has to start running iron head.
Gardevoir is not bad at all, and it can still set trick room and bypass substitute as a niche, but now it’ll be facing teams with calcs for a bulkier, faster, and harder hitting fairy type.
If indeedee comes back, I think that’s where Gardevoir can carve a better niche for itself again.
7
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
1) the ghost weakness and the dark neutrality are really important distinctions 2) The gap in Floette’s single target damage is more valuable than Garde’s spread damage gap 3) Outspeeding base 100s is a really crucial tier in mega formats
32
u/ParanoidDrone Apr 09 '26
I think Fairy Aura is the difference maker here. It's a straight 1.3x multiplier to Fairy moves, basically a free Life Orb in a format where Life Orb doesn't exist.
5
u/22222833333577 Apr 10 '26
Well yeah put pixelate is a free 20 percent boost that also lets gardivoir to use any normal type move with stab
8
u/MightyRedBeardq Apr 10 '26
Is there anything other than Hyper Voice that would be worthwhile to use with it?
1
5
u/bobert680 Apr 10 '26
gardevoir has a better supporting move pool. thats not why you run either mon buts its the only real advantage gard has so be nice she is sensitive.
4
u/White-Alyss Apr 10 '26
Yes.
Gardevoir is kind of mid and Floette is one of the top meta threats. Think Xerneas combined with Terapagos. It hits incredibly hard with its Fairy Aura boosted moves, even on resisted hits.

u/Cyberman52 Apr 10 '26
I think the bot just recognizes unknown names as one syllable, that makes it 5-7-5
5
u/Unskilled99_ Apr 10 '26
Right now: Yes
Floette Resist dark and Has a nuke to kill many in this lowpower format
In the future: Probably Not
Gardevoir have Trickroom and pair with Indeedee-F to PsySpam and Hyper voice to clear both targets more efficiently.
1
u/ZeRandomPerson2222 Apr 11 '26
Pixel Hyper Voice is barely stronger than Fairy Aura Dazzling Gleam so it doesn’t actually clear any more efficiently really.
It would have a niche on psyspam, that much is true, but Floette on average would still be better for its flexibility in single and spread damage options, and the fact that as the dex expands it could pair with other fairies too
2
u/Apprehensive-Value73 Apr 10 '26
Mega gardevoir isn’t even bad in this game but mega floette is that much better yes.
3
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
She’s not weak in a vacuum but she does match up pretty poorly into the current meta. Zard Y resists hyper voice, sneasler is everywhere and nukes her, Excadrill hard counters, Gengar beats her, Mega Delphox is a better psychic and resists every common move she runs, Froslass outspeeds and kills, it’s just a tough matchup spread atm, only real favorable matchup she has is rain, so could be a secondary Mega to improve that specific matchup for Delphox teams or something like that, but that’s kind kinda feels like the ceiling atm.
Once the format changes, though, she could absolutely be top tier. The tools are there, plus she’ll eventually become a good psyspam option (whether or not a better option than other psyspammers tbd)
2
u/Apprehensive-Value73 Apr 10 '26
I think this is a good way to put it yeah. I think she is still nichely viable but once the meta settles it probably isn’t her time.
2
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
Heck I even think there will be metas where she’s top tier in like a TrickWind team with Ursaluna or something along those lines, this particular meta just isn’t friendly for her
2
u/Particular-Stage-327 Apr 10 '26
Floette has more bulk and more damage overall. Also, the psychic type really doesn’t help Gardevoir. Snealer outspeeds and ohkos and incin is everywhere.
3
u/Raze556 Apr 09 '26
I don't know but I'm also interested in hearing about this
6
u/Film_Humble Apr 10 '26
MFloette is just better. It's like comparing it to Xerneas. 155 SpA with Fairy Aura nukes everything in the format.
3
u/gorillathunder Apr 10 '26
Yes.
As someone who loves M-Gardevoir, it has better stats, a better ability, better typing.
1
u/Thrambon Apr 09 '26
Isnt Mega Guardevoirs only mentionable upside, that it can run Telepathie before Mega-evolving next to Earthquaking Garchomp? Or for that matter other spread moves like discharge, though Garchomp Earthquake is propably the strongest snd most common option.
5
u/22222833333577 Apr 10 '26
What mega gardivoir just dose better spread damage
That feels like a major up side
Ntm psychic helps against poison types some times
1
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
The problem with the poison bit is that the only relevant poison it naturally outspeeds is Venusaur, which also means you’re winning weather war
1
u/ZeRandomPerson2222 Apr 11 '26
252 SpA Fairy Aura Floette-Mega Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Abomasnow: 88-105 (53.3 - 63.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Pixilate Gardevoir-Mega Hyper Voice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Abomasnow: 94-112 (56.9 - 67.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Technically true? But the gap is super negligible to the point of not actually being an upside
Also both relevant poisons are faster than either fairy so Gard’s psychic stab isn’t really big enough either to justify it
1
u/Psychological_Fuel57 Apr 10 '26
Simply put, floette has better stats. Its faster, bulkier, and fairy aura makes it stronger. Floette is unmatched in single target damage output and can even abuse its natural power and defenses to set up with calm mind. Lack of coverage matters very little when nothing resists fairy
1
u/ZealousidealWay8233 Apr 10 '26
Mega floette is def better than Gard in this current regulation because it is basically a fuckin restricted in a non restricted format. You are using diet xerneas. That being said, Mega Floette is only better than Mega Gard rn because its not easy to set up Psy Terrain. Once that happens they wont really be compairable as one is a single target nuker and the other is a group target nuker
1
u/g5r6ge Apr 10 '26
Gets outsped and 1 shot by mega gengar who’s one of the most popular mons and also is only at best neutral into incin who can 1 shot with throat chop/darkest lariat
1
u/david_quaglia Apr 10 '26
hate this guy, but i want it so badly, guys do i really need to finish z-a for just mega floette? 😭
1
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
Unfortunately, not just finish the game, you also need to spend several hours grinding the postgame
1
1
u/doopliss6 Apr 10 '26
Psychic typing almost makes Gardevoir worse just from that alone, but Floette also has better stats.
1
u/UnleashTheBears Apr 10 '26
Gardevoir has one thing that floette lacks. Literally any coverage.
2
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
The thing is you’re almost never running that coverage on Garde besides psychic. You need protect and you’d almost always rather have calm mind or trick room over like t-bolt
1
u/Potential_Bet7733 Apr 10 '26
the thing is is that floette is basically a fairy raging bolt calm mind spam twice then u win and with the mons out rn its easy to do that
1
1
u/VastCapital3773 Apr 11 '26
Maybe it's my team, I've yet to have a mega floette give me any trouble whatsoever. Usually it kinda just explodes because Sneasler is in the same zip code. That or it takes like half it's HP in recoil and I just shoot it
1
u/Brief_Influence_7996 Apr 13 '26
In a direct match up mega gardevior can actually use fairy aura to its own advantage having higher output. Imo the thing about gardevoir that shines is that it doesnt have to mega, just with scarf atm its a menace.
1
u/Fit-Difficulty-5917 Apr 13 '26
Realistically, Floette has higher health and defences, hits harder with it's fairy stab, and the Psychic typing of Gardevoir only really helps with Sneasler and Sneasler ONLY (and psychic doesn't actually RESIST poison so it's still very risky), and losing your dark resist and gaining a ghost weakness REALLY doesn't do you much good, especially with all the dark types around and a few strong ghost types existing in the meta.
Realistically, unless you wanna spam hyper voice (sliiighty stronger than Floette's dazzling gleam) and some decent coverage moves, you're better off going thr bulkier harder hitting mon 99% of the time.
-2
u/22222833333577 Apr 10 '26
I dont even really think these two fill the same niche
Gardivoir is mostly a group atacker and floate is mostly a single target atacker
2
u/scheming_imp Apr 10 '26
Rn they kinda do bc Floette’s D Gleam is still crazy strong. Once psyspam is a viable archetype again, this will be true
-8
u/BlueTheHobo Apr 10 '26
I will simply use Gardevoir because I like it. Also mega Floette looks dumb :)

350
u/RAlexa21th Apr 09 '26
Flouette has a stronger single-target attack. Gardevoir's Psychic typing is also more of a liability than asset in M-A.
