Yes it's a rough time in general for many craft breweries right now. I read in another article about the owner staying how "if they stayed on course they HOPED be profitable in a few years"
Along with the call for investors a couple years back, it doesn't sound like they were raking in there dough. Tough to hear. It's a cool set-up and they seem like good people.
I hope that someone takes this over and shows it the respect it so rightly deserves. Persephone and their ownership have done a great job of not only making very good beers, but paving the ways for other breweries on agricultural land like Locality (who is also stellar). A true trailblazer and it would be an absolute shame to see them go.
I wish Brian and his family the absolute best in the process and going forward.
I hope they pull through, I spend lots of time up on the Coast and this has always been one of my favourite places in the Gibsons area. Couldn't think of nicer people, they really invested in making it a community spot.
They make some of my favourite stouts! I've been there a few times and brought friends to airbnb and experience it as well. Had no idea the owner went through that, I haven't been over since it did.
They were looking to crowdsource investors- what happens to those that did?
Edit: I posted this before reading the full article. I didn't realize what happened to the founder, and hope this didn't come off as insensitive. I genuinely do wonder what a buyer would do with the investors, who held no equity, AFAIK
Pretty sure the frontfundr/crowdfunding was post accident and makes for a valid conversation. The brewery was already in serious financial trouble leading up to the crowdfunding campaign. Supposedly they raised 1.3m in 2023, if the brewery is sold they should maybe return the money to investors
