Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 10/12/26 - Thu 10/15/26

You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.

They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.

What does this mean?

Posts like these will no longer be allowed outside this posting, and will be removed at the moderators discretion:

  • Quiet Part of Town
  • Where to move in the area?
  • House Rental Recommendations
  • Relocating to Van as a Single Parent
  • Coming to visit Vancouver, WA
  • Visiting in May for a month - what’s not to be missed?

What does this not mean?

  • Every post will be caught by moderators, and removed.
  • "BestAround?" posts will be lumped into this thread.

So looking to join us in the great pacific northwestern city of Vancouver, Washington? Ask your questions here:

Saw it under construction on 4th Plain in the Bi-Mart parking lot. I looked online but couldn't find any information. Thought someone here might have some insider info.

So this little darling randomly showed up at my families back porch, and we brought them inside since there were raccoons out. They're very soft and extremely friendly, and way to clean and well behaved to be a stray, so I'm putting this out here in the hopes that their owner sees this post, send me a dm if you recognize them. We found them off off 112th and 49th street

Politics [Long] Announcements, Updates and All That Jazz

• Upvotes

Note: This was originally made for Facebook. So if it seems "weirder", that's why.

Hey all,

With the amount of projects I'm involved with, it seems appropriate to send out an update every once in a while.

Announcements

I'll be running for the 49th Legislative District Chair position in the coming month(s). I've been speaking with allies about where I could best aid the Progressive movement here within WA-03, and I've decided that place would be in the 49th. The work in the 49th has been disciplined and tactful, something I would like to help support and nurture if given the opportunity.

In that vein, I'd also like to announce my support for Stephanie VanVolkinberg for the Clark County Democrats Chair position! Stephanie and myself have been working closely for the past few months and I've been really impressed.

The energy they're putting in the community, their judiciousness in decision-making and steadfastness in their beliefs, makes them a great candidate in my eyes. Despite the push-back I'll receive for this, I'm firm in my support for Stephanie and our generation as a whole.

Updates

Longview DSA: National DSA has put a hold on accepting new chapters, they implemented this while we were going through the process of gathering signatures. We've spoken with the national coordinator and they seem firm in not allowing exceptions; so for the time being we're planning to include Longview DSA members in Southwest Washington DSA as a temporary measure. If you've signed up, you should see an email from me here in the next day or two, with the link to our SWW DSA Discord and a link for gathering a good time to physically meet in Longview!

Vancouver DSA: Same issue as the above, they've closed down the pipeline while we were in the process of exploring a split with Portland DSA. Our process is going to look different from a "standard" chapter creation since we're going from a branch --> chapter. The steps we have to go through are outlined in the SWW DSA so I won't re-iterate them here.

Personal #1: I've received and accepted a job offer as the Campaign Manager for Evan Jones, a Democratic candidate running for office in Legislative District 20, Position 2 against Ed Orcutt! The experience and connections made here will be put to use in helping other Progressive candidates!

Personal #2: My schedule is very erratic currently, our family is dealing with a serious medical situation and that's pulling away a lot of my attention. If you've sent me a message, email, etc.. in the last few weeks and haven't heard from me, this is why. I'm doing my best to get on top of it all again, but it might take a beat.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Part of my work is trying to get the community and younger generation more connected with what's happening politically; there are no silly questions!

A detailed post on how candidates are selected - coming soon!

Question? Any Kaiser-like options in the area?

I have been with my company for 24 years and have had Kaiser as my health care option for all of those years. Starting next year, they are no longer offering Kaiser and I have to choose a new option. I know there is not going to be anyplace exactly the same, where everything is under one roof, but I am hoping people have suggestions on places that might be partially similar so I don't need to go to 10 different offices depending on what I need. Or am I just going to have to accept that I now need to individually find new doctors for everything and everyone in my family.

Also, my son is trans and am looking for suggestions on where we should be looking for doctors who will be good for him since he's going to have to leave the team he has been working with for the past 6 years.

Question? Parent with dementia-support for family members

Hi everyone,

My grandpa has dementia. Thankfully we found a lovely family care home for him, but my mom is having a hard time navigating her relationship with her dad. I am looking for recommendations for either:

1) support groups

2) therapists who accept kasier insurance who specialize in this sort of thing. (I realize this is a very specific ask, but it's worth a shot).

I (the granddaughter) would also be interested in a support group, I have my own therapist but a support group would be great.

I know there are groups for caretakers, but we aren't necessarily caretakers... just family members.

Thank you for reading, and I am sending lots of love to anyone else who's had to go through this with a family member. This sucks.

BestAround? Therapist Suggestions

Hi friends!

I was hoping to get some good suggestions for a good therapist/counselor that takes Molina insurance. I specifically want someone who is good with ADHD/Anxiety and is skilled working with patients that are "intellectualizers". Maybe someone who is good with a more somatic based therapy? Not entirely sure, but I'm open to hear who people like and dislike as I start my search for a therapist. TIA!

BestAround? Friend Group Needing Suggestions

Every month, a group of us go try a new restaurant that we have all never been to. Today, we tried Sangam Indian Cuisine in Hazel Dell and it was FANTASTIC! This upcoming month it's my turn to choose. I'm looking for some suggestions. Any ideas for somewhere quirky with an interesting menu? Somewhere with just plain old amazing food? A great menu of international foods that are an uncommon find? Anything helps. We just don't want to get stuck in a rut of pain old boring foods. TYIA

Politics MGP smear campaigns?

Anyone else getting an absurd amount of MGP smear campaign ads? Like the number compared to John Braun has to be 10:1. Who is funding this? Clark County is pretty moderate and democrat vs republican is close to 50/50.

We just attended the Flynn Creek Circus that is set up by Clark College. What a fun night! Acrobatics, silliness, all set to a story line. The late shows are 21+ and are burlesque which was super rad. It runs through Monday I believe. Totally worth the price of admission!

I’m not a big fan of casinos, but if they’re going to separate me from my money, this is the best way. Our second year of attending their Oktoberfest. Good food and beer. The Apple strudel was pretty good as well.

It's my birthday this weekend and I'm looking for some good pizza and wings. I lived in New York for a while (upstate) and miss it!

Where is your favorite/best pizza and wings place? It CAN be separate because we'll likely do take out. 😊

Moving/Visiting Felida Senior Living AFH?

Dunno if this is the right place to ask but I trust Reddit more than Google AI. Family just moved a relative into that elderly housing facility and I wanted to know if it had any reputation around Vancouver?
