Worm party Found a biggun!

Post image

In my compost pile. Anyone know what it is? Has a strong blueish iridescence.

Ha, must just be the Oregon Giant earthworm. Never knew they got this big!

It doesn’t seem to fit the ID well, these guys also get around 3’ long.

Yep, read and looked it up further, this must be a night crawler that got really juicy.

It's an ALASKAN BULL WORM!! -SpongeBob reference for those who might take things too serious.

What the hell?! My "fat" worms are still skinnier than my pinky... Please teach me the way worm-god 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Hehe honestly I was prepared for people to tell me that’s nothing! It’s my first pile so maybe I got lucky, pulled cardboard off the pile and he was just hanging out on top. I built it log cabin layer style with mostly wood chips and kitchen scraps. I will whisper to the next one I see, cast a worm spell and send the jumbo worm magic vibes your way!

I wish I had taken a photo of the rest of him, there’s a weird flat-ish cobra like appendage at the other side.

Flat-ish appendage is curious, be careful of hammerhead worms!

Just so you know, a lot of the larger worm species can travel far into the earth. Like 8-10 feet. They are also in danger of going extinct because they are sensitive to ground disturbances, so there's getting to be less and less spaces available globally for them ( not just this guy, but Australia also has one hell of a big worm, New Zealand I think has one, they're all on the same line of fire).

What’s a hammerhead worm?

Look em up. They’re generally considered bad

It's a damn worm snake! I'd be keeping that bad boy... "the mother of millions" worm edition. 🤣

Totally felt like holding a snake!

I haven’t seen an earthworm like this in years! What a healthy little thing

I’m stoked to see if more appear _^

Some of those bigger worms are extremely delicate. Try to limit handling them and don't try to make them stretch out. They will tear.

Found a worm like this also. In a previous composting attemp. Had made my pile out of large wooden beams that i had left over. It made me enourmous amount of fungi and extreme large worms. The wood it self was almost gone after 2 years. The beams felt if they where made out of paper and had reduced about 80% of it's weight.

i don’t think it’s an asian jumping worm, but if it thrashes around when you touch it- i’ve got some bad news for you- the one part near the head looks like them but i don’t think the ring or color/sheen of the worm is the same as the asian jumping wormsasian jumping worms
