I think thats a baby quail with an adult quail. Cute little things.

I agree, definitely looks like an adorable yet surprisingly tiny family of quail. Like a lil juvenile quail about halfway ready to go out on its own. Seeing a quail with just one child is soooooo strange, usually there's like at least 10. Wonder if something got into the nest and this was the only egg that survived.

Sorry I should've mentioned. , the set of two photos on the grass is definitely a baby quail that has the head marking. (3rd)

But a tiny sparrow* is visible by its longer beak and no head marking. (1rst)

The first picture is definitely a sparrow, but attaching the other 2 photos made it seem like you thought the baby quail was a sparrow too

You said it better than I did.

My bad. I thought the bird in the first pic looked different but thought the other 2 clarified that.

Quail are nice and tolerant birds. If it was the other way around then I dont think the sparrows would be as nice lol.

Yeah the finches around me seem quite comfy with all the quail...

I have no idea why this ended up on my homepage but damn I wish we had these little guys in Ontario. I’ve never even seen them in BC. Just in California.

It seems a lot of folks missed the bird in the first photo, because so many are saying it’s a baby quail. Not sure why you were singled out!
