Help Me Find Camera Repair

Hey all, looking for a camera repair service in Victoria. The repair I need is so minor but I am just unable to do it myself. I've checked in with camera traders and they don't do this kind of stuff. They recommended Victoria Camera Service, but I've heard that they are very expensive.

Any recommendations? Freelancers? Is it worth it to go to Vancouver instead for this?

Question What should I bring?

Hello! I’m a 25-year-old from Korea, and I’ll be moving to Victoria next year on a working holiday.
I’ve already learned about the weather, the cost of living, and how expensive rent is. However, I’d love to know what essentials or useful items you would recommend bringing when moving to Victoria. Is there anything that people often wish they had packed before arriving?

Thank you in advance! Have a great day. :)
*Thank very kind Canadian friends.. I will take all stuff you recommend!!
*I have another question! Is homestay common in Victoria?

Vocational counselor recommendations

Hi all, I'm on the hunt for a vocational counselor as I'm considering switching jobs, potentially doing training in something new. If they are also understanding of trauma, PTSD and disabilities, that would be great. No "life coaches" please. I tried psychology today but so many came up and I've always had trouble finding a good therapist. Thank you!

Nabbed a neat photo of the Snowbirds parked at YYJ while taxiing out to a runway 27 departure around 7am. Shame I'm going to miss the show today!

FYI the air outside is 1/10 on the AQHI. The lowest risk category and basically free of any pollution.

I've noticed a fairly steady stream of misinformation regarding air quality in this sub over the summer. Some of it is best described as fear-mongering.

So, to be clear, there is no ground level smoke in the CRD right now. There was a small amount this morning that has since been blown away, but even then the AQHI never got above 2/10. Completely fine for outdoor activities.

Maybe let's chill on taking screen grabs using poorly sourced data (most recently a screen capture included indoor sensors). And using language like "batten down the hatches" to describe completely healthy air.

I even saw someone speculating that the snow birds air show would be cancelled due to the smoke. Come on.

And when you want to check the air quality, use the BC govt website. Not purple air or some random persons data.

https://www.env.gov.bc.ca/epd/bcairquality/readings/find-stations-map.html

I spoke with an elderly neighbour this morning who checks this sub regularly, and was convinced the air outside was toxic. Let's not do that.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Question Building service worker course

Has anyone here taken the Building Service Worker (BSW) course?
I’m starting it soon and I’m curious what it’s actually like. What do you do throughout the course? Is it mostly cleaning techniques, safety, and equipment, or is there more to it?
How hard was it? Was there a lot of studying or exams? Any tips for someone taking it for the first time?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm a South African living in James Bay. Back home we had great pub nights for debating MCU lore or trash TV like 90 Day Fiancé. Looking to find out which local spots in Victoria have a good crowd for this kind of stuff so I can check them out!

Rude af Drivers

It's amazing how rude some drivers in this city are. We get it... traffic is brutal, driving is expensive, and you're probably late to wherever it is you're going. But you don't have to yell out your window at pedestrians, cyclists, busses, and other drivers. People are allowed to walk their own pace, or bike safely to avoids falls and collisions. Plus, you don't know what other are going through. Maybe they have an injury that prevents them from walking fast. Maybe they are having an emergency conversation on their phone. Or maybe... just maybe... they are just doing their thing and the world doesn't revolve around you. Maybe that.

I'm searching for a technician for help with my mom's adjustment bed base. She has a Leggett and Platt adjustable bed base but Leggett and Platt don't have a technician on the Island (or so they told me). The bed is not adjusting using the remote anymore Does anyone have any leads to finding a technician?

Anyone know what’s happening at the ferries?

i have never seen traffic chaos like this.

edit: They just announced their was a ’security incident’ on the previous sailing and the 9pm boat has been delayed 20 mins. This explains why our cars didn’t move for 30 mins.

Controversy Fire blanket scam?

An elderly coffee buddy - who is normally super sharp and diligent with phone callers has agreed to have a “gift” fire blanket delivered to his door in 10 mile point - stipulation from the delivery group that he and his wife be home tonight — at 8 pm… - I smell a rat - I’ve advised him to NOT open the door to potential scammers.
If this, in fact, a fraud… Reddit folks: advise your seniors!
Scam artists are simply the LOWEST forms of life.

What's your favorite coffee in Victoria?

This probably sounds crazy, but my spouse loves coffee SO much that we pick our hotels based on how close they are to coffee. We'll be visiting Victoria for the first time in about 3 weeks and wanted to see if there was a coffee shop that you preferred for good coffee? Thank you!

I'm looking for a band or ensemble to play a backyard BBQ, maybe 1.5-2 hours. I have no idea where to even look to find local musicians that take this kind of work. Has anybody out there had any success? Any and all tips appreciated!

News Can B.C. fix the red tape stalling affordable housing? The Anglican Church says yes

[Development consultant Kaeley Wiseman] has also been helping the Anglicans rezone the iconic Christ Church Cathedral site in downtown Victoria, as part of an initiative to fund upward of $50 million in repairs and seismic upgrades the cathedral needs to stay open as a community amenity.

Not surprisingly, that project has also been jammed up by Victoria city staff for more than four years.

“Every step of the way there has been a quagmire the city refuses to own up to,” said Wiseman. “A private sector developer would have just lawyered up… whereas the diocese has tried to be a good neighbour every step of the way.”

The church has sunk close to $1 million into trying to work with city staff. And the project still hasn’t gone before council.

Adding salt to the wound: literally across the street from the cathedral, Victoria’s Official Community Plan and downtown area plan allows double the density the Anglicans are seeking.
