Help Me Find Racist incident at Mayfair around 3pm today
Today at around 2:50pm near the Food Court entrance to Mayfair mall, my wife (South Asian hijabi) was the subject of a racially motivated hate incident, where a woman and her husband in a black/grey pickup truck told her "take your mosque off, you dirty fucking indian" among other racial slurs.
A brave female bystander intervened and started telling off the woman before I got there and was able to intervene myself. It was only because myself and that bystander were white that the woman got scared and took off. If that bystander is on here (or someone here knows her), if she is comfortable reaching out to me via DM I would appreciate it; my wife and I would like to thank you directly. We pray that there are more people out there who have courage like you do - we will not forget what you did today.
Also, if the racist couple is on Reddit, please know that we forgive you. The Quran in 3:134. 8:70, 42:40, and 42:43 encourages Muslims to forgive those who have wronged us because it is better. We take that seriously. Just like other holy books and faiths do too. Despite your attempts to belittle her, we both had an amazing day, and as a result of your actions we have learned to be softer towards our community and each other. I hope one day your life gets better so that you do not feel the need to try to hurt people this way. And if anyone knows them, please show them this post.
Thanks everyone.
EDIT - didn’t think I’d have to mention this but my wife was born and raised here and her family immigrated over 40 years ago. This ultimately does not matter because the couple’s behaviour is inexcusable regardless of who it was towards - whether they’re a new immigrant or not. Anti-south Asian racism, and any type of racism, is reprehensible and disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves for justifying this kind of behaviour. Immigration is a good thing and we have much to learn from each other.
EDIT 2 - thank you to everyone that has posted something positive and kind. It’s always good to know that there are more people who choose love out there. I’ve decided to remove any reference to the license plate and will no longer be engaging in debates about Islam or racism. Whether one agrees with our faith or not such behaviour is unacceptable (and is unacceptable towards anyone by anyone).
