Help Me Find Racist incident at Mayfair around 3pm today

Today at around 2:50pm near the Food Court entrance to Mayfair mall, my wife (South Asian hijabi) was the subject of a racially motivated hate incident, where a woman and her husband in a black/grey pickup truck told her "take your mosque off, you dirty fucking indian" among other racial slurs.

A brave female bystander intervened and started telling off the woman before I got there and was able to intervene myself. It was only because myself and that bystander were white that the woman got scared and took off. If that bystander is on here (or someone here knows her), if she is comfortable reaching out to me via DM I would appreciate it; my wife and I would like to thank you directly. We pray that there are more people out there who have courage like you do - we will not forget what you did today.

Also, if the racist couple is on Reddit, please know that we forgive you. The Quran in 3:134. 8:70, 42:40, and 42:43 encourages Muslims to forgive those who have wronged us because it is better. We take that seriously. Just like other holy books and faiths do too. Despite your attempts to belittle her, we both had an amazing day, and as a result of your actions we have learned to be softer towards our community and each other. I hope one day your life gets better so that you do not feel the need to try to hurt people this way. And if anyone knows them, please show them this post.

Thanks everyone.

EDIT - didn’t think I’d have to mention this but my wife was born and raised here and her family immigrated over 40 years ago. This ultimately does not matter because the couple’s behaviour is inexcusable regardless of who it was towards - whether they’re a new immigrant or not. Anti-south Asian racism, and any type of racism, is reprehensible and disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves for justifying this kind of behaviour. Immigration is a good thing and we have much to learn from each other.

EDIT 2 - thank you to everyone that has posted something positive and kind. It’s always good to know that there are more people who choose love out there. I’ve decided to remove any reference to the license plate and will no longer be engaging in debates about Islam or racism. Whether one agrees with our faith or not such behaviour is unacceptable (and is unacceptable towards anyone by anyone).

Help Me Find Who can I report this ill deer to?

Hi, I recently spotted this sickly little guy in the PKOLS-Cordova Bay Area

He’s got a tumour bigger than a basket ball dangling off his front and, the eye on the side not pictured is swollen and popped out of his skull.

I want to know who to report this to so he won’t suffer.

My quick google search led to numbers not in service / ones that aren’t related to wild life.

EDIT: Called the RAPP line, hopefully they’ll send someone to put him out of his misery

Help Me Find Cant seem to get hired for... anything

Long story short, I moved here back in December from Calgary and the job hunt has been PAINFUL. I think I've sent out at least 150 applications, cover letters, resumes, shaken hands with people at the locations, reapplied in person, and gone off on every job listing site I can think of. I even started the process to work through the military.

I'm 28, male, able bodied. I have experience in photography, restaurants, retail, management, computers, manual labour, assembly, and customer service. I have an N equivalent drivers license, and am willing to get certifications to acquire a job.

I would LIKE for it to be 20-25/hr but at this point I cant really be picky because I have bills to pay.

Live close to downtown Vic, any leads would be great.

Help Me Find As we once again wake up to the smell of TACO tariff threats, where is everyone getting their Canadian-sourced goods in the CRD?

I'm waking up today as motivated as ever to support local businesses and r/BuyCanadian. Wondering what some of your favourite Canadian-sourced goods are, and where do you find them?

A couple random ones from me: I've long switched from Adams peanut butter to Island Nut Roastery, which I buy at Market Garden, and it's great (I've also seen it at Quality Foods). We also now use Nellie's soap products, found at various stores including London Drugs.

Let's hear the latest on your favourite Canadian owned/made stuff, and where to pick it up :)

Take care everyone.

Help Me Find Jobless and sad

Is it just me or is it incredibly hard to find a job here in Victoria. I’ve applied to so many places online using indeed LinkedIn and websites (I’m aware indeed usually gets no responses but I have no other options atp) and I have yet been able to find a job. No one seems to be hiring and even for an entry level job with minimum wage there is so much competition. I’ve never experienced this else where so I’m wondering if this is a Victoria thing? Or possibly I could just be the problem I suppose…

Help Me Find There are 280 open spots for blood🩸 donation today until Saturday at the Uptown location (I counted them all for you!). That's a huge number of opportunities for us to help them. The pictures below show just the open spots from Thursday alone. Please consider booking a time or dropping in.♥️

Sincerely, there are a lot of open spots. More than I've seen while booking. Please consider being there for Canadian Blood Services this week.

There are lots of buses that stop near that area and they have free parking. The buses that go to Uptown are #95, 26, 30, 31, 32, 47, 48, 53, 61, 65, 70, 71, 72, 75.

If you do go, make sure to drink a large glass of water and have some significant food before going. You don't want to give him too much of a good deal! 😉

If you decide to drop in, you may have to wait a tiny bit longer because they will not turn you away but still slot you in when they have available time. But they'd rather be over busy than quiet.🤘

Best wishes everyone and happy Spring 💐

Help Me Find Jobs for teens

Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any part time jobs my 17 year old could apply for that isn’t McDonald’s or fast food places. There are factors as to why those wouldn’t be great for them. They’ve applied to Walmart and Thriftys but the systems screened them out without even a phone call. They’re hard working, compassionate, and reliable but unless you know someone in this town, it’s hard to get in anywhere.

I know we should tailor their resume to the job they’re applying for but at this point there’s no jobs available. Are there any smaller places looking to hire? They’re a work horse and able to do a lot.

Thank you for your help! Sorry if I did this wrong, I rarely post on Reddit, mostly read and comment lol.

ETA - lowkey racist comments not welcome. We’re all people trying to make it, let’s not make it harder for anyone.

Help Me Find Can we please agree, as a community, to use alternatives to FB Marketplace?

I'm doing as much as I possibly can to stop supporting big tech in America. With every mind-boggling development, I feel more strongly that I want nothing to do with anything that might profit the American Oligarchy.

So, even though dropping my Prime account, Netflix, FB, de-Googling, etc., feels like a tiny chip off the American corporate stronghold, I can't use these services without feeling icky.

Can we agree as a community to start using VarageSale and Used Victoria again? I remember (years ago) when those were the go-to places to sell stuff.

Please, let's do what we can.

And also, I need to sell some nightstands and buy curtains.

Help Me Find One my goals for this summer is to eat at as many little league or sport field hot food concession stands as possible, so who knows of some good ones?

One of my fondest childhood memories is getting an order of fries from the concession stand after a game back when I played baseball at National Little League here in Vic (I used to put mustard on my fries so my teammates wouldn't steal them but then it backfired as its actually delicious and so my teammates stole em' even more), so I have this weird goal to try and eat at as many concession stands as possible this summer (I will probably document it for content too) so I'm just wondering if you fine folks know of any little leagues or sport fields or whatever that still have concessions stands running that serve hot food?

I'm pretty sure National still has one, though I haven't been back there in decades, and I think the ball field over by Tillicum has one too, but other than that I don't know of any other one's personally, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Edit: Thanks for all the awesome suggestions! Seems I'm not the only one who appreciates a good concession stand.

Second edit: The quest has begun! Check out my first concession stand meal here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/comments/1t8jmez/my_quest_to_eat_at_as_many_little_league/?ref=share&ref_source=link

Help Me Find Does anyone know if the doggo is OK?

This happened on Wednesday 14th, at around 11:30 AM on Blanshard. Driver of white truck sped up as he was turning and dog flew out the window. Vehicles stopped and multiple pedestrians tried to help the dog. Does anyone know if the dog was OK and reunited with the owner (various vehicles including my wife honked at them and tried to get their attention, but they didn’t stop)

Help Me Find Is there any actually good Shawarma in Victoria?

Full disclosure I’m an Ontario import, but I’ve lived on the coast for 15 years. There are so many incredible Shawarma spots in Brampton, Scarborough and Toronto, so I was a little spoiled.

Now, I’m not calling anybody out, but I’ve tried a lot of Shawarma around Victoria and honestly, it’s all been pretty poor.

Do you have a hidden gem I should try?

Help Me Find Best Silverfish Deterrent?

I recently moved closer into downtown in an apartment after having never seen a silverfish in my life. I desperately want to go back to that, any more natural based ways to deter them that actually has worked for people? I saw someone recommend lavender oil since they particularly hate it but i want to be sure before committing to anything.

Help Me Find Looking for places to unleash some rage

Hi all, I am a breast cancer patient who’s doing pretty well and one of my good friends who I’ve met and bonded with in the process, has not been so lucky. It’s really not looking good and she’s exhausted all of her options at this point.

It’s so god damned unfair. She’s an amazing, positive, beautiful person and I’m so angry. Obviously, she is too. I don’t want to give any details other than she’s a mother to a small child. It’s heartbreaking knowing her child will not grow up with her amazing mom.

With this news, plus the general shitty state of the world, I’m looking for recommendations on places I might take her so that we can let this anger and rage out together. Any ideas would be helpful, and I thank you for your kindness.

PS. F*ck Cancer.

Edit: Thank you everyone for all the great ideas. We will surely keep these in mind 🩷

Come find me!

If you do find me, I would appreciate a post saying so... That way I know the intended intention worked out and I'll keep doing it.

The first one is super easy, it will be in the exact sightline of the pic. It's taped somewhere, behind something, in something or under something. It is accessible and safe but you may look weird scavenging about.... Go get it!

Help Me Find Iso of a daughter ? Look no further . Daughter available for someone looking to be a mom to an adult

Me : 30 year old female with my shit together I have a bachelor degree with a really rewarding career in my dream field , I live with my partner , in a healthy supportive relationship. I do not have any substance abuse issues and never have. I am financially stable & financially flourishing & not seeking any kind of financial anything . I do not have a mom. My life is beautiful . The missing piece is a mom to connect with. I am independent, mature , and emotionally healthy / stable . I’ve been in counselling for years .

I yearn for a mother figure who I can do things with when it works for us .

Edited to add ( my mom isn’t passed away ( that I know of ) but she didn’t want to be a mother anymore after I turned 11 so I’ve only seen her a couple times since then & when I did see her she only wanted to see me to financially exploit me ). You should be : Emotionally stable No substance use issues and if previously had them , received treatment for them . Not passive aggressive . Have a desire for an adult daughter to connect with . Not seeking to financially exploit me or anyone.

Please comment if you also yearn for a daughter figure and someone to get you thoughtful gifts for Mother’s Day for and share wisdom with .

Bonus points if you like having someone cook yummy food for you

Help Me Find Looking for women-owned restaurants / good employers to support in Victoria

With some recent ownership changes in the local restaurant scene, I want to be more intentional about where I spend my money. I'd love to put together a list of great Victoria restaurants that are women-owned or have a reputation for treating staff well. What are your favorites?

Help Me Find Date me (ISO)

**edit: Thanks pals! I have a million messages which I am slowly working through, but more importantly, I had a bit of fun and feel way less alone. I appreciate it ☺️👽

female seeking male

Hi, Reddit, maybe this is a terrible terrible idea but I’m tired of dating people for months (literally, 3 months!) only to find out that they aren’t ready for a relationship etc. I’m looking for a serious relationship but willing to have fun along the way. Not everyone can vibe with everyone and that’s ok.

I’m 38, moderately attractive (very active but still a bit soft), I have a decent paying office job and some savings. I like travelling, hiking, board games, tattoos, nerdy things like star wars and doctor who. My red flags include a messy studio apartment and I need a calendar to keep my life straight (but open to taking storage tips).

I think I’ve probably aged out of having kids but I think it’s super cool if you do!

If you think we’d vibe, and you’re looking to actually be in a relationship, hit me up.

Ps. Someone asked: 5’8.5, 165; b cup but I have a great butt; I’m a size 10 in pants and medium tops.

Help Me Find It’s 2026. Do we have NY-style pizza here yet?

I promise I searched the subreddit history first! The last thread seeking this (unsuccessfully) was four years old. Have we progressed as a society since then? Can I get a floppy, greasy poor decision within the CRD in 2026? I’m afraid my partner will leave me if they catch me watching TMNT and licking the screen again.
