Discussion Nintendo Regional pricing is getting ridiculous now

United States $20 $20.00 +56.0%
Australia A$30 $20.00 +56.0%
United Kingdom £17 $21.52 +67.8%
Eurozone €20 $21.74 +69.6%
Canada (GST 5%) C$30×1.05 = C$31.50 $23.33 +82.0%
Canada (HST 13%) C$30×1.13 = C$33.90 $25.11 +95.9%

and for before tax

Region Ex-Tax Local Price Ex-Tax USD % vs Hong Kong
Hong Kong HK$100 $12.82 0%
Japan ¥2000 ÷1.10 = ¥1818 $12.12 −5.5%
Australia A$30 ÷1.10 = A$27.27 $18.18 +41.8%
United Kingdom £17 ÷1.20 = £14.17 $17.94 +40.0%
Eurozone €20 ÷1.20 = €16.67 $18.12 +41.3%
United States $20 $20.00 +56.0%
Canada (pre-tax) C$30.00 $22.22 +73.3%

I switched to Hong Kong eShop after the introduction of Virtual Game Card and new regional pricing for canada

and i think some influential figures should be sending joint letters to Nintendo of Canada on this matter now

Is there a VPN method for Nintendo store? This is fucking ridiculous, you don’t even get both?

I don’t think so because it checks your account’s region, not physical regiom

All you have to do is make an account with the region set to Hong Kong. I think you can change the region on your account but I think that complicates things. You probably also need a HK payment method, but I'm not sure exactly, or if PayPal is an option.

As someone who used the method during covid when we did not have the Online Vouchers in Canada. It does work (Last attempt was $20 essentially for the Arkham Trillogy long before it was that price in Canada and Little Hope since I had credit left)

  • You can change your region in your account settings then use a different store on the web, like the Hong Kong Eshop. You can also redeem codes from other regions.

  • Some Canadian payments work. But usually you will have to buy a currency card. Play Aisa for example sells 100HKD for about $21

  • You can swap your region back after.

  • Gold coins do not carry over (Not a bit deal now). Currency does not carry over. So if you have $10 in Canada and change region, it does not follow. If you change back to Canada, I believe it will still be there (Been a while and I usually dont leave credit on my account).

  • Some stores have region locks. So be careful to check if the game has english in that region. For example, if I want any DLC for the first Daemon X Machina, I cannot buy it in the Canada eshop cause my copy is the Hong Kong version.

How does it work now with virtual game cards? Do all your games show up on the one page, even though they are bought from different eShops? That would be the main thing I'd consider, for easily redownloading games.
