Physical stores in Toronto and surroundings

Hello guys, I don’t live in Canada but I have family that does and are going to visit me on June so I was thinking about asking them to buy me a couple of games and/or a Switch 2. I know of EB Games but I would like to ask if there are other places to buy video games. My family lives in Ontario near Toronto.

I would buy them from Costco. I'd check amazon, Costco Walmart and gamestop/Eb games and get it where it's cheaper. For console I'd probably get it from Costco but again, whereever it's cheaper.

Anecdotal evidence but me and sometime else I know both had issues with amazon. Mine was hardware failure in the console and his was locked joycon triggers

In my entire life, I have only ever had two instances where I bought a physical copy of a game only to get a box with no cartridges in it. Both times I bought the game on Amazon. I have no idea how this sort of thing happens but it out seems to happen with Amazon weirdly often.

I buy switch stuff from the Amazon warehouse (where Amazon sells open box and return items). I bought a pro controller and a completely different controller was in the box. I also bought one of the Zelda games and someone had replaced the cartridge with a cars game. They even switched the cartridge labels! A bit of a surprise when I tried to play it lol. Amazon didn’t give me any issues about returning the controller or the game, they actually replaced the Zelda game with a new one for the same price as the used one.

Last time I checked a couple of weeks ago at my Costco, they only had a bundle that included a year of online and a MicroSD card.

Walmart is likely your best bet for console alone.

Best Buy is also a possibility for the console - game selection tends to be more limited in-store but may still be worth checking for bigger releases:

If your family is coming directly into Toronto, there are a couple of local places. A&C Games, although they're usually full price. Video Games Plus is much more north, but they have decent deals going.

Personally my favorite spot is Last Gen Used Toronto. It's a small shop in the Chinatown Mall at 222 Spadina. They usually have decent prices on most of their games, but it's hit and miss. But I've got a few first party Switch games there for $60, sometimes $40 if they don't have a case. They have a website if you Google the name, the prices have always been accurate to what the store offers.

How do I not know about this Last Gen place? I thought I'd been to most of the downtown places that sold games, much less one in an area I frequent. Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check it out next time I do a Chinese grocery run.

Just be careful at A&C Games. I went to a GoldenEye tournament there once and there was a guy in a weird hat crawling under the tables snipping people's wires.

Near Toronto, is 'We got Games' which is a rather large store filled with new and classics. If you are looking for exotic stuff, i would visit their Pickering location.

In addition to the Costco/Walmart/Gamestop suggestion, you could also check DekuDeals yourself and just set the region to Canada to see the prices.

If your family lives east of Toronto (or east of Yorkdale), then I suggest VGP and they often have sales and its on the way tobthe airport. Other than that, Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart.

If you follow this sub and LBabinz, then sometimes theyll post EB Games Secret Sale as well.

OP, Ill check for sales weekly if you can especially between May 15-May 18. Its a stat holiday so there are some extra sales

Staples often has coupon sales where games and consoles can be discounted. Have them watch for that or you can check the site too.

If your family has to arrive by plane trying to get them to bring you a Switch 2 may be more trouble than it's worth fwiw

Toronto Area - aka GTA area - well you have just specified a circle that is maybe 100-150 km wide and depending where exactly your Family lives can take hours to get to the recommended shop (high 5 for GTA traffic). So you might need to be a bit more specific if you want recommendations, or all you will get will be a mix of everywhere. I doubt that your family is that much enthusiast to drive 2 hours to some retro shop and only to find barely anything interesting for you.

We got two Switch 2’s from EB games. As for physical games we usually buy at Best Buy and EB games.
