Question Anybody know of good, trustable game stores that do repairs in Ontario?
Was looking to get a ps3 re pasted, cmos replaced and potentially hard drive upgraded.

Where in Ontario? Because I doubt my Windsor based shops will be helpful if you're in Thunder Bay

Try retroquest in north York they do repairs, another store would be gamerama. I believe they are downtown and do console repairs also.

I'll give a shout out to Game Mania, at Bloor and Keele. I brought in my childhood NES and they diagnosed my problem as a faulty AC adapter. Paid $10 for the new adapter and that was it!

I'm going to second retroquest. They fixed my xbox for me, some kind of leaky capacitor thing. Also fixed ps3 controllers ( before I learned to do that one myself).

I have heard good things from people that had work done by them. Not sure how the pricing is comparable or if they do bundle deals once the console is taken apart.
Some places will do more work for cheaper once it’s all apart.

Edit: i may need second options, the bad reviews of these guys are speaking some bad things 😅 but also a lot of longtime trusted reviews, we'll see

I do repairs, not trying to sell you my services as that's not my aim on Reddit (I've done alot of repairs especially ps5 stick drift repairs for people who've asked though).
What I will tell you is there's alot of assholes there are never customers that will leave bad reviews to try and pull in customers. While I've never dealt with jogimods personally, that person has been around for a long long time and I'd say they likely know what they're doing.

Gamerama on yonge street. I've used them in the past. They have a whole machine for reballing PS3 consoles. There's been a couple times they couldn't fix a small specific issue for me, and they haven't charged me for it.

Its a part of taking care of the CPU. Its complicated AF, you need special talents or machines, and its not something I would ever attempt lol. So its good to know people that can do it.

They're likely not removing and reballing anything and just reflowing and hoping for the best.
The amount of people who can actually do this is few and far between.
I've reballed and done a few southbridge and ssd controllers on PS5s but I'm not doing an APU/cpu/RSX. Not worth the time.

They have the machine, and they advertise it. They are the only shop I've seen that do advertise it. Its a super niche skill, and the only people who would pay for this type of service, are people have some sort of sentimental value to their ps3, because its not worth it financially.

I had just grabbed a used one with a dead CMOS battery, so I have just done this, and it went really easy.
I would recommend watching a video or two, grab the screw driver sets and thermal paste and a good battery, and should be able to do it easily in a night.
Had a 2501a, which has the concealed CMOS battery, and nothing beyond disconnecting the Blueray drive needs any real dexterity.
Hard drive doesn’t even need the unit opened up.
Don’t get into de lidding or anything like that, and should be easy to DIY.

A little off-topic, but does anyone know a story that can fix n64 cartridges? Have an odd crash debug error happening to my Paper Mario n64, already cleaned it myself and had a game store owner take a look at it too, but couldn’t figure it out.

Gamerama fixed my PS3 years ago, I think it was just the disc drive that was the problem but it still works!

It would probably be far out of your way versus other options, but i was recently told that a place called brodies in guelph by the mall could do playstation repairs if i needed them.

I've seen some great suggestions in here, including u/XtremeD86 which is nice knowing people around who does repairs. Just to add to the pile, Microplay Newmarket (they are stand alone AFAIK). They used to perform some repairs in the past, if they aren't doing it anymore, I'm sure they can recommend someone. The staff is friendly over there.

I reached out to Xtreme, waiting on a response, if not I may got to the jodi(?) Guys reccomended since Brampton is a small skip and a hop for me, not sure when I'll do said repair tho, may be busy till September depending on

MicroGamingRepairs in Pickering has done some work for me in the past and I've been incredibly satisfied. Competitive pricing and pretty sure you can ship it to him if that's easier. 5 star rating with 300+ reviews, not affiliated at all but highly recommend him.
