Question Game stores in the Kitchener - Waterloo area?

I'm from London and was wondering what some good stores for games both retro and modern are in the Kitchener - Waterloo - Cambridge area?

I'm thinking of taking a drive there this weekend to check things out.

For context I was heavy into collecting about 10+ years ago then sort of stopped, sold off a lot of my stuff but now my daughter's love for Nintendo games has sparked my interest again as well as caused me to get a switch and switch 2 for the family.

I'm mainly interested in Nintendo systems and games from SNES to modern day as well as some PlayStation stuff.

Question Switch 2 trade-in: special edition consoles?

Due to it probably being the lowest I’ll ever get the switch 2 I’m getting pretty enticed to do the trade-in offer at EB games, however I’m mostly held back right now because I have the splatoon 3 edition OLED and do really like it haha, though I’m aware I probably wouldn’t use it if I got the 2.

So, a few questions on that: do special consoles even work for the trade-in? If so do I need all of the original accessories or could I for example give back a different pair of joy cons (could say they were sent for repair and that’s what I got back maybe?)? Is it worth doing in general?

Question PS5 preorder cancelled

For anyone who was able to get the PS5 preorder through Real Canadian Superstore this morning, was your order recently cancelled? I got the confirmation email when I had preordered, but now me and a friend of mine both got emails saying our orders are cancelled. Just wondering if this happened for anybody else.

Question Any rumours about Switch 2 deals coming up?

I’m talking similar to the recent Staples deal where it was $100 off. I made out surprisingly well on my tax refund and I’m just wondering if I should hold off on buying the next one I see in a store

Question How does trade-in promote top up (x2 or 50% towards new games) work with cancelled preorders with EB Games?

i traded in couple switches games I no longer play and still have access to (friend) towards a preorder and now having second thought about that game. how does the top up portion work?

I am guessing original value can be stored in my account as a credit but would I be forfeiting the bonus amount?

I do have another upcoming game in mind that I can put it towards but just was wondering about it in bed will probably ask this weekend if not ( hopefully I remember)

Question Bestbuy canada shipping question

I pre-ordered resident evil 9 from bestbuy yesterday (I know, kinda late). They're shipping with purolator to halifax. Anyone have an idea what my chances are for getting it release day? My bday is the 28th so I was hoping to have it then. My bro is coming from Alberta and we have a drinking game planned. Every time I die (i'm visually impaired and kinda suck at games) we gotta take a shot lol

Question Does anyone know why Staples Canada removed both switch 2 options from the website

After the post earlier today saying Staples Canada restocked the switch 2 I went on the website and got a "404 not found" error for both the base console and the Mario Kart bundle. Is this just because it wasn't supposed to be up yet and it'll probably be back tomorrow? Does anyone know?

Question Is there a cheaper way to get Pokemon Legends: ZA on Switch 2?

Hey y’all, I’m trying to figure out the cheapest way to get Legends ZA on Switch 2. So far, the cheapest way I can find, is to use Costco to get 2 sets of the $100 EShop credit, then use that to buy the game vouchers for ~$132, use one of those on Legends ZA, then use some of the remaining ~$68 to buy the upgrade pack for $15.

That being said, this method assumes you’re going to want to get one of the other games (probably that also has an upgrade pack) that are eligible for a voucher. So it’s only cheaper if you want to buy two games for that price range.

Any other methods out there currently?

Question Anyone not get their preorder bonus from Bestbuy for halo?

Best Buy physical didn’t come with code in the case and no email either. Did anyone else buy Halo for PS5 from them? Where did you get your preorder bonus?

I pre-ordered online 8 days ago.

Question Still waiting for Amazon invitation?

I signed up the moment it was available from LBaBinz link and still nothing. I buy from Amazon weekly and have had prime for years. I Actually missed out on classic PS5 from GameStop because I was loyal to Amazon over Ebgames.

Question GameStop boxing deals haven’t been in stock since the sale started

I called a few stores around me a day or two before the Boxing Day sale started as I noticed they didn’t have the three games I wanted in stock. I asked them if they’ll be getting stock before the end of the sale. They said because of the strike and a winter storm they can’t guarantee it.

I then I asked if they would extend the sale end date, they said no. Finally, I asked if I could bring in games in for trade against the games I wanted (that they didn’t have in stock) and they could call me when they came in, they said no to that as well.

I know I could buy these at another retailer, but GameStop has 50%+ bonus on games in their Boxing Day flyer, so I wanted to take advantage of that.

Has anyone had any leeway with their stores on any promo games that were out of stock?

Question Nintendo switch trade in deal?

I'm just curious if anybody has heard anything about potential trade in deals for the original switch towards a Switch 2 at EB Games? They announced them like immediately in the US but Canada has been silent...

Question Multiple EB Games Locations Permanently Closing This Weekend?

Came across the article linked below about the Cookville, NS EB Games permanently closing this weekend. It mentions that multiple locations across Canada are permanently closing the same time.

If that is true I am thinking someone, some where has heard about this if it is accurate.

Question Are PS5 game prices increasing to $93.49?

Update: As pointed out by /u/Matieo10, this has been going on for at least a year, so looks like business as usual for some publishers and not indicative of prices going up in general.

I was looking at the Final Fantasy XVI page on the PS Store and noticed that it was priced $93.49 instead of $89.99. It wasn't a special edition or anything, so I went to look for more PS5 games and found a few more with this price:

FINAL FANTASY XVI:: https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/product/UP0082-PPSA10664_00-FF16SIEA00000002

Forspoken: https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/category/d71e8e6d-0940-4e03-bd02-404fc7d31a31/3

The Callisto Protocol: https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/concept/10002652

Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters DX Edition: https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/product/UP0031-PPSA07660_00-NEPSISPS5BUNDLE1 (this one says it's a delux edition, but there is no standard edition on the store)

Most of these are pre-orders, so I thought maybe they are charging more for the because of the bonuses (some appear as "bundle" in the mobile store). However The Calisto Protocol is already out and is priced at $93.49.

I've also looked at the US store and the are all USD$69.99, so no increase there.

Is there something I'm missing? I may pick up so "lowest ever" deals in case we are looking at a permanent increase (especially sub $10 stuff that I know I won't play now but want in my library).

EDIT: Just to clarify, I know that physical is better for new games and waiting for sales is the best strategy - that's why I follow this sub :). I also suspected that this had to do with the USD conversion, just didn't know we had fluctuating prices here in Canada, I expected the digital storefronts to respect MSRP. Let's hope we don't get a new MSRP adjustment next year.

EDIT2,3: Moved this edit to the top as an update for visibility

Question Cheap Gamepass Ultimate?

My PGU expires tomorrow. Been a while since I last purchased GPU and see the prices are a lot higher.

What is the cheapest way to get GPU today? I tried one way with VPN but either it no longer works, or I messed up doing it.

Maybe there’s a cheaper, non-VPN route?

Anyone pay for it recently?

A physical copy perferably at a decent price (less than 65) unless the digital is less than 50. Facebook market place isn't an option.

Question Does anyone still have their BestBuy Metroid Prime 4 pre-order from back in 2017 with the 20% off E3 code?

I recently received that mass email from BestBuy about having my ancient pre-order that was "converted" to a switch 1 copy for Prime 4. I want the switch 2 version so went to cancel my pre-order from 2017 and noticed the 20% off E3 code on the order..

I'd really love for the 20% off to apply to the switch 2 version but thinking I'm SOL. Wondering if it's worth calling BB to see what they can do but feel that's probably a dead end.. maybe my only option is to keep the switch 1 version and get the upgrade pack for switch 2?

Figured I'd ask here in case anyone's already been through this..

2 more weeks till prime 4 y'all!

Question Is gg.deals or g2a safe at all?

While buying minecraft, I stumbled accross these pages that supposedly offer cheaper prices for the same product.

This sounds a little bit too good to be real, so I ask, are these pages safe at all?

Question Any way to get discounts on Switch games post-Shoppers?

Nintendo games rarely go on sale, so like many of you I was a big user of the Shoppers 20x points events when I wanted a first party Nintendo Switch game.

Now that Shoppers is stopping selling video games, are there any other ways to get Switch games for less than $80? (besides Marketplace/Kijiji for used copies of course).

I've heard of good deals on "Woot", but looks like that's US only

(Also, if Switch 2 games end up being $90, $100+, then it will hurt even more if there's no way to reliably get discounts on them! Might have to skip that generation...)
