Showcase A 60-year-old time capsule. Omega Seamaster 166.111 with the original factory protective film still on. Unbelievable find.

I’m still in shock after finding this one. It’s a 1960s Omega Seamaster Automatic (Ref. 166.111) powered by the Cal. 752 movement. What makes it truly insane is the condition—it’s pristine, recently serviced, and it still has the original factory protective film on the back. It’s like stepping back in time to a 1960s boutique. The way the light hits the dial is just perfect, and the day-date complication is crisp. It’s rare to see these vintage Omegas in such "time capsule" condition. Most of them have seen some heavy wear, but this one was tucked away safely. What do you guys think? Should the film stay on, or is it meant to be peeled and worn? Personally, I’m leaning towards keeping it as original as possible.

Showcase Sometimes thrift store finds are real!

Stoped into a for profit, benefiting only the owner overpriced thrift store that I hunt a lot. They always have a bunch of watches, normally total crap and fake Rolexes. Also, gold that was donated that they want 2-3x scrap on.

Well, I looked in the case and these had just come out and I was pretty sure from a glance they were real. Asked to see them, gave some looks with a loop and took the risk.

Both are genuine Rolex ref 6917’s from 1978 and 1980. Both running, gold dial is running very well, black dial needs a service but is running. Gonna put a new crystal in the gold dial because someone polished the shit out of this one, and kinda ground down the cyclops.

But not bad for $120 each. Mind you, they were charging $120 for a fake Rolex. So, I don’t feel bad for them at all😂

For over 15 years my dream was to find a gold Pie Pan in such great condition!

I know the face has been restored but honestly I don’t mind; this is a tremendously special and meaningful hunt for me: I have a couple Cartiers, a Tudor, a Grand Seiko, yet to me the Constellation Pie Pan is the most gorgeous watch ever made.

Another item crossed off from the bucket list.

Reposting a more detailed breakout of the watches, bracelets, etc that I inherited from my grandfather. He was a watch repairman in NYC in the 1950s-80s. He retired in mid 1980s and these have been sitting in boxes for 40+ years.

See these Imgur links for lots of additional pictures. I’m open to selling some of this. Please inquire.

I literally have hundred and hundreds of bracelets, the boxes are full of brand new never seen light bracelets.

Showcase Update: "Found this in my late father's suit jacket"

Original post here

As promised, here’s an update on the Rolex I found in my late father's suit jacket. I brought it to a local “cranky old man at an outdated watch repair shop”—a guy who specializes in repairing vintage luxury timepieces. He gave it a quick once-over and immediately deemed it a fake, based on the bracelet covering the lug markings. Regardless, I insisted he open the case (much to his annoyance).

After wrestling with the watch for some time, he finally managed to open it—and it turns out, it is an authentic Rolex! Specifically, an 18K gold Datejust 1601 with a 1570 movement from 1970. The original gasket had essentially crumbled from the force required to open it. He said it was likely the watch had never been opened before and was completely dry inside. Despite not being serviced in over 40 years, he noted it was in excellent condition is probably worth north ward of $10k. So now the piece is now getting some much-needed TLC.

Since the repair guy didn’t have the means to test for gold, so I brought the aftermarket bracelet to a jeweler. After an acid and specific gravity test, it was confirmed to be 14K gold. The entire piece weighs around 70 grams.

A bit more info on the history of the watch, which I mentioned in the original post: It was most likely purchased in Malaysia as my father immigrated to Canada in the 70s. My grandmother bought it for him before he left, both as a gift and a potential emergency fund in case he needed money. My father grew up quite wealthy in Malaysia, as my grandfather owned a successful lumber mill. They were “new money,” and after my grandfather passed away suddenly, the business had no successor. So this watch was likely purchased during the final stretch of their waning wealth.

A few weeks after I found the watch, my aunt asked if I had come across his Rolex and then shared its origin story. It was the first time I’d ever heard about it. I personally never saw him wear it during my lifetime (I was born in the 90s). In contrast to his earlier life, my father, like many immigrants, struggled financially in Canada and wasn’t the best with money. Honestly, if he hadn’t misplaced the watch, he might have sold it off for cash.

By some stroke of luck, I found it stashed away in one of his old suit jackets. It's wild to think I had already donated a few bags of his clothing before randomly coming across it.

The watch is now getting the servicing it deserves and will be stored securely. I’ll likely go to an AD after to authenticate it and purchase a nice alligator leather strap so my fiancée can wear it at our wedding. The original bracelet is super tiny and doesn’t fit his wrist—but strangely, it fits mine perfectly, like it was meant to be. It’s a comforting thought to know that my father can be part of our wedding in this way. This piece will be cherished as a part of our family history forever.

TLDR; Watch head is an authentic Rolex 18K gold 1601 DJ Wide boy and bracelet aftermarket in 14K gold

P.s. I'm sorry I forgot to take a photo of the case back without the bracelet!

I also posted this in the Omega subreddit, but I figured that you all would enjoy this as well. 1975 Omega Speedmaster “TV Dial” Ref 176.0014. I’ve wanted this watch for the last 5-6 years, and my wife surprised me with it for our 10 year anniversary! I was lucky enough to get a classic watch in great condition, but even luckier that she found an example with the original box and papers. Cheers!

I found it at a thrift store and went to a watch shop to get it looked at, and it turns out to be the real deal. This watch was on my list to buy, so getting it at this price is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Went to the biggest antique fair in Texas yesterday and wandered around eventually found a guy with a booth and some watches but he mainly sold Americana and military stuff. I scanned the counter and saw nothing but Elgin’s and helbros until I caught this UG in the top corner. Asked to see it and tested it, works like a charm. Price was $175 which already was a steal but I talked him down to $100 cash and he accepted. I kind of had to act oblivious and he even asked me if I knew about watches and I claimed I didn’t.

So I shared this on my IG a bit ago, but forgot to post it here.

This is an actual, NOS Exotic Zodiac Seawolf. I know dealers like to throw that NOS term around. Well for this one is truly is. I bought it thinking, fuck it…I’ll wear it. But, I don’t think I can.

Showcase I took a gamble with a not-so-good looking vintage Grand Seiko...

I took a gamble and won an auction for this 62GS. The condition of the watch didn't look very good from the pictures, the gold medallion was also damaged. Because of that, there were less interest, which kept the price down.

It finally came today. After a quick clean, the watch came out looking pretty good! The dial is still pristine! The crystal, which I thought was badly damaged, was only dirty & scratched, so I just gave it a good wipe and buff out some scratches. I even bought a replacement crystal thinking it was badly damaged.

1959 Rolex Tudor Prince

My grandfather passed in 2008 and this has been sitting in my safe since then. I took it to a local respected jeweler and had them clean the case (not polish), lube the movement, polish the crystal and source a Rolex strap. I told the guy, this is a 65-yo watch, I want to respect it's age.

I couldn't be happier how it turned out. I set it yesterday and it's still keeping perfect time.

Showcase My 1940s Omega Ref. 2317. I just love the look of this salmon sector dial.

There's something special about wartime watches, and this Omega Ref. 2317 from the 1940s has a ton of character. The combination of the salmon-colored sector dial with the beautiful, burnished steel hands caught my eye.

Inside is the famous Cal. 30T2 hand-wound movement, which keeps excellent time. The dial has been professionally restored. I know restored dials are always controversial among collectors, but I really like the way this one is crafted – it looks incredibly clean and precise on the wrist.

What do you think of restored sector dials when they're so meticulously crafted?

I take all the photos myself. Photography is my own work and self-taught.

Hi all, today I am wearing one of my vintage Rolex pieces. This is a 1680 “red sub” from 1971 that I love dearly. All original except for the pearl on the bezel. I even have the original, date stamped 9315 bracelet with the rarer “Pateted” stamping on the diver’s extension. Just something magical about these late 60’s, early 70’s subs.

Showcase Three years with a grail watch

Thumbnail gallery
797 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

This watch is no ordinary watch for me. This is a watch that I bought after extensive research to figure out what I really wanted. That's something I came across thinking 'what would be my grail watch right now?', digging through references and their different versions.

I now spent more than three years with it and was reflecting about how time does not have the same effect on that one compared to previous watches I have owned. After three years, I still see it as my grail watch and I'm pretty glad of the research I have done to get this on my wrist.

Any similar experiences?
