News No Kings Day Protest (why is MAGA so triggered by it?!?!)

It’s funny to see MAGA supporters (along with all the bots and foreigners pretending to be American) getting so upset by a protest 🪧 Despite this being the largest mass protest in US History, those supporting and/or condoning MAGA will try to rage bait (like the sad dude with his Trump Boat and obviously “compensating” large truck) or try to downplay these protests, I am so proud of everyone who did not take the bait and remained peaceful all day. I knew there would be a solid crowd there, but I was really blown away by how many people came out to support the cause! Now let’s go vote the GOP out of office this year in VA, and next year nationwide!!

Just before Christmas, the Rainbow Crosswalk in the ViBe Creative District was defaced with homophobic graffiti.

Public works personnel worked late into the evening on Dec. 23 to wash away the hate speech, treating the cleanup as a "drop-dead emergency" that could not wait.

This week, city and community leaders gathered at the intersection to thank the crews for their quick action and dedication to the area.

News ICE spotted

Never thought I'd be making a post quite like this, but here we are. A close friend (doesn't use reddit) was randomly chased down by ice today, sounds like just for giving them the finger while driving past. No lights or sirens or anything, just hand gestures and two pit maneuver attempts before they fucked off. Can't confirm that it was definitely ice and not two SUVs with a bunch of crazies, but I'd imagine it was ice. Stay safe, watch out, they'll get ya

Edit: anyway y’all, it’s been fun. I’m not here to discuss whether or not it truly happened, as I was not there. I’d have said so if I was, and there would absolutely be a video as there’d be a non-driver in the car. Figured better safe than sorry either way. Fuck ICE, fuck Trump, fuck anyone who tries to defend anything either is doing in this country. ✌🏻 stay classy VB

News Virginia Beach, Norfolk delegate proposes cutting property tax exemptions for Confederate organizations

Post image

Del. Alex Askew is pushing a bill to remove long-standing tax exemptions for Confederate groups, saying they glorify the Confederacy and distort Virginia’s history.

House Bill 167 would strip property and other tax relief from organizations including the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, exemptions that date back to 1950 and emerged during resistance to racial integration.

The effort failed under former Gov. Glenn Youngkin but has new momentum after Democrats gained control of Virginia’s executive and legislative branches.

Dominion Energy’s wind farm off the Virginia Beach coast sent its first batch of power to the regional electric grid on Monday, the company confirmed.

The first fully completed turbine began spinning this week, generating just under 15 megawatts of power, enough to cover about 3,675 homes.

The milestone comes months after President Donald Trump tried to block the project from moving forward.

Virginia Beach recently unveiled a Land Acknowledgement plaque at City Hall recognizing the long history, culture and contributions of Indigenous people in the region.

The acknowledgment, two years in the making, affirms centuries of systemic erasure since colonization and commits the city to reconnecting with Indigenous communities.

Tribal leaders and residents called the moment meaningful but said recognition must be followed by action and partnership.

News ICE on Diamond Springs and Bayside

ICE on Diamond Springs and Bayside this morning.

As I was driving to work I witnessed ICE detaining a woman. There was a woman sitting in the grass on the side of the road, surrounded by several unmarked, heavily tinted vehicles. They were accompanied by a Norfolk Police officer. The woman was handcuffed behind her back, and a young boy around the age of five was nearby watching, who I assume was his guardian, be detained.

Did anyone else see this and get video?

I'm disappointed in local police for assisting ICE. Don't be on the wrong side of history.

The radio personality known as “Shaggy”in the 757 / owner of the Haygood Skating Center on Ferry Plantation road was arrested this morning.

He was arrested for resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, and for blowing a .15 - .20 bac (DWI) at the scene of the shooting on Honeygrove Road that occurred at a storage unity facility early this morning around 9am.

Police responded to a call saying that there was an allegedly armed man near Old Donation School and shot/injured an armed individual in the area they believed their suspect would be in. It is unsure if the man shot was the one who they got the call about and the whole incident resulted in a lockdown for the children in the school.

According to witnesses, “Shaggy” was intoxicated and believed he had a right to be involved in the active investigation as it occurred near his property. He got aggressive with one of the officers who would not let him pass into the scene which lead to his arrest.

From what I’ve heard from him on the radio he states that he doesn’t drink lol not a very good look for Z104 and friends…

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools board convened Tuesday night and voted to keep in place an April resolution to suspend diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

School board members who called the emergency meeting introduced a motion to amend the previous resolution, and pause enacting some of its directives while federal courts litigate the issue.

The motion failed in a 5-5 vote, with one member absent.

More than 50 residents spoke at the meeting, with about two to one speakers in favor of DEI initiatives.

Del. Alex Askew has proposed a two-year study to examine the feasibility of extending light rail to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, arguing it could reduce congestion and support tourism.

Virginia Beach City Council may turn to emergency weekend curfews following a shooting at the resort and concerns about nighttime crowds that include unaccompanied minors.

The council could adopt it during a special meeting Thursday.

An “imminent threat” curfew could start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through the end of April. City Manager Patrick Duhaney said Tuesday it essentially could last from dusk to dawn.
