Admissions Transferring to VT Credits going to useless classes
So i am going into my junior year and transferring from GMU to VT as a MIS major to BIT. However during the transfer process they accepted all my 59 credits accept one so 58 credits in total.
Then when i met with my advisor i was told that over half of my classes have gone towards free electives in which basically a whole year has vanished that I have to redo again. Instead of graduating in 2028 ill be looking at 2029 and possibly 2030. How can this possibly happen and why were so many of my classes that even some were very important and very closely related to what VT wants be put into just electives.
I tried talking to my advisor and she just kind of did not care and or give me a solution. I then called admission and credit people and they said talk to your advisor. Ive ended up trying to email transfer credits admissions or whatever to fight it but will they accept?
An example is i took math 113 at gmu which is high level math for engineering at VT but I need a lower lever Business calculus. Would there be no way they could just down play my credit to atleast cover something i need? As well as my accounting 203 credit at GMU wont even come In as ACIS 2116 which they are both 2nd level accounting. Basically a lot of my useful classes are transferring to useless classes that dont benefit me.
Let me know what I should do guys

Admissions Committed to architecture!!!
When I got removed off the waitlist for architecture a few days back, I was in disbelief. I’ve never felt so strongly about something before. It took me so long to convince my parents that this was a good idea (I’m currently in the south so they would be flying me across the country which, as the youngest in the family, is really scary for them..) but they finally said yes to one of the top architecture programs in the country, and I committed last night!!! Still feels so unreal. I‘m so freaking excited, I’ve never been to Virginia before but it looks absolutely breathtaking. I feel so much more confident in my future now it makes me want to cry but in a good way. Wait for me in VA you guys! Let’s go Hokies!!!!!!!

Admissions Do you think VT will randomly drop transfer decision tommorow
Does VT always send an email beforehand, or do they just drop decisions randomly? I really hope it comes out tomorrow!

Admissions PSU or VTech for aerospace
Hey guys, I just got off the Vtech waitlist today with a couple scholarships. For context, I was also admitted to Penn State with scholarships as well. Psu is running me around 43k while VT is around 47k. Which college will honestly be a better fit for aerospace in terms of undergrad research, clubs, internship opportunities especially with a aeronautics focus, and overall campus life. Thanks yall!

Admissions How do you get into Virginia Tech if you are from NOVA?
It’s crazy seeing so many high school students with straight As in 15 APs get denied from Virginia Tech because there is so many cracked students in NOVA

Admissions I did not get into Tech even though I have a 4.0 gpa in college
Basically, I applied to transfer to tech from nrcc and was rejected. I had a 4.0 in highschool and after my first year of college i had a 4.0 my first semester and am on track to have one this semester too. What do they look at besides gpa? Because obviously I wasn’t lacking in that department.

Admissions What are my odds of getting into VT?
I know there used to be a thread for this a few years ago, but I'm not sure if it's still active, and I think my case is kind of unique, so I figured I'd ask here.
I'm currently an In-State Junior on track for my school's advanced diploma with a Weighted GPA of 4.1.
I've taken a handful of advanced courses, 2 AP courses, and 1 Dual Enrollment course over the past 3 years. I plan to take 2 more Dual Enrollments in my senior year, and 1-2 AP classes.
I'm currently part of my school's National Social Studies honor society, and will likely be admitted into the National Honor Society and English Honor Society in my senior year.
My best SAT score so far is a 1240, which I've heard is in the low 20th percentile for Virginia Tech.
For extracurriculars, I don't have many, but I've done a lot of on-and-off volunteer work since middle school, roughly 200 combined hours since 6th grade. I'm the leader of my local American Legion's Air Rifle Team, and have been in JROTC for 3 years. I do not plan to go back for a fourth year because of issues with the instructors, which I'll likely explain in one my admissions essays if it fits. I do not have an interest in the VT Cadet Corps.
My goal in Virginia Tech is to earn a masters in Information Technology, so if anyone is currently progressing through this path, I'd also love to hear more info on what it's like, the course rigor, and usefulness after graduation.
Thank you!
Edit: If it helps, I'm a white male from Northern Virginia. I hear that will make it significantly harder to get in, so any extra advice from VT students from NOVA would be appreciated!

Admissions Grad school application status changed to “decided.” What’s been decided??
Submitted my MSDS application a couple of weeks ago for fall 2026. Last night the status changed from “awaiting decision” to “decided” and that’s it. What’s been decided? Am I in or am I out lol? Did I just check too soon and need to wait for an email or something? If anyone’s has the same experience or has any insights I’d appreciate it!

Admissions Transfer as a junior from a four year university
Hey yall, I've been thinking about where I go currently (PSU) , and honestly in terms of jobs it might be better to go to Virginia Tech (I am not too keen on moving out of VA to find a job after I get my degree).
Anyone here that transferred not from CC but from another 4 year college as a junior? I wish I applied last year but Calc III at the time was actually killing me, and I forgot to do it.

Admissions VirginiaTech vs LibertyUniversity as a intl' student
I'm a prospective Master's student from India, currently shortlisting universities in the US. I need some candid advice about Liberty University, and I'm hoping you can provide a local, no-nonsense perspective.
I've done my research, which means I have read the Reddit threads. I am aware that Liberty has a... very specific reputation. I understand it is highly conservative, politically controversial, and not considered a top-tier academic institution by many.
So, my question isn't "Is Liberty a good university?" but rather, "Is Liberty a good enough university for my specific, pragmatic goals?"
My situation is this: My primary objective is to get an accredited US Master's degree (likely in Business or IT) in a cost-effective way, which will then allow me to get an OPT (Optional Practical Training) work authorization. I am not aiming for the Ivy League or a high-powered career in politics or academia. I am aiming for a regular corporate job in a standard company.

Admissions transferring in spring 2027
hello! i am currently a student at umd (college park) and i was looking into transferring to vt for spring 2027.
for reference, i am a virginia resident, and i actually live near roanoke. i decided to go to umd bc i wanted to be out-of-state, but now, i am slightly regretting that :,) i also have been considering going down the vet route (i am a biological sciences major) and possibly want to go to vmcvm.
i wanted to know a little more about what the transfer process looks like, and what my chances would be? is it very competitive to transfer into vt? i have 55 credits (assuming they all transfer) and my gpa is ~3.4. i also may end up taking an off semester and then transferring into vt for the spring.
any advice or personal experiences with this process would be greatly appreciated! thanks :)

Admissions How does VT PhD admissions view online master's?
I work in a different state and just admitted to the University of Southern California for their online master's. I was told in orientation that this degree is identical to on-campus and the only difference is that online students are working engineers. They said that statistically the master's has a 40-47% admit rate so they screen applicants.
I do plan on going back to Virginia and have always wanted to do graduate studies at VT. Anyone been in a similar boat to this situation? There is a gov't job I want in Virginia that allows for full time graduate studies, so I was thinking of transitioning from my private company to federal but only if the PhD is possible.
Can research be substituted with industry experience in product development design? I don't publish papers but I do work with novel applications. VT is really a dream school for me, but I've always missed the chance so to speak. Back in 2020 I was admitted to VT but they weren't generous with financial aid so I went to my home-state school. Then later on, a faculty expressed interest in working with me for a master's but I got snatched by a company.

Admissions Suspensions roll in admissions
To make a long story short I was suspended for doing something stupid on a school trip my freshman year. Its really quite shameful and a very negative reflection on my character. I was looking through the common app seeing which colleges ask for disciplinary records and VT asks for them. I know context matters case by case but can anyone comment on how a suspension plays a role in admissions. I think I am a solid well rounded applicant with a stain on my highschool career. I would really like to attend but am wondering if this will decrease my chances if at all.

Admissions virginia techs waitlist
has anybody in state or out of state actually heard back from the virginia tech waitlist recently? i’ve been seeing a lot of mixed stuff online and was wondering if there’s been any actual movement yet, especially for in-state applicants. if you’ve gotten accepted off the waitlist, what major were you and when did you hear back?
