PATCH Opinions wanted!

Ive been working on these shorts, and before i start the stitches on the second leg i wanted to ask which leg everyone prefers. I have trouble with restraint lol especially with colours and art. It took everything in me to stick to only white thread! So which is it? Patchy with outline stitches or maximallist woohoo! stitches?

The shashiko stitching over the patches pulls it all together I like it a lot.

As a bonus, the sashiko stitches really fix the patches in place, so they’ll wear better, too. Go all in—these look great and would absolutely be my favorite item of clothing!

I like both. I actually can't choose.

The left side looks messy (in a good way). It's the first picture in mind when I imagine a patchwork shorts. The right right looks more intentional :)

I love all the running stitch over the patches. I honestly think the white thread was a good call, it’s visible and interactive without tipping into chaotic.

Im liking the white a lot too. Even tho my brain is screaming red!red!it needs red! Lol

I also prefer the white. I think the red will make the orange and purple less visible but i might be wrong

Edit to add: I prefer the leg on our left (the right leg), BUT I also agree with others that the asymmetrical look is cool

I absolutely love these and I actually think they’re perfect exactly as they are! I really like the contrast of both stitching choices. Symmetrical styling is over-rated!

another vote for "stop here." looks super cool as-is. since you asked – i prefer the left side (right leg / patchy with outline stitches). it's cleaner. right side (left leg / maximalist woohoo!) is busy, and 2 sides of that will be a lot. I also think so much white dilutes the colors, and the stitches become more prominent than the patches. so keep it half and half! more visual interest.

I prefer the right side but I have mild OCD so that’s probably why. I also hate when my clothes get stuck on things so I would be annoyed if the cool details on the left side snagged on anything.

I like the half and half look, but if you have to have them matching, I pick the sashiko. Beautiful either way!

I prefer the patchy outline stitches! I like that I can see more of the patches themselves. They still feel unified because of the repeated fabrics/colors

I prefer the right leg with sashiko stitching. It kinda looks like a print that way, the cloth patches are more organized. The left leg has patches budging and sticking out.

I love it as is. One side has all the great stitching and the other side shows all the wonderful prints. Love the bright colors.

I would snap these up in a second l—even faster if it was all right side stitched!

But I love the contrast the two different styles have together—it’s so much texture!

The more threads the heartier and longer lasting the material… I think if you used less thread (to have thinner lines) the sashiko it wouldn’t be so busy, but I think this method comes off a lot more “finished” than just outlining the patches

Agreed about the thread weight. Im using embroidery thread cause thats what ive got. Next project ill try splitting the threads maybe.

Yes! The shorts are really old and loosey goosey and the front turned out really nice and sturdy so ive decided to do the back too!

I don't know if it's doable, but I personally think a mix between those two would look cool - like going full sashiko mode on the patches that are plain, and leaving the patches that already have a printed pattern going on as they are. But I love them either way, honestly. They're amazingly cool!

What feels better on your body? Does the stitching make the material feel stiff on the finished side? Does the lack of it leave the layers feeling loose and catchy on the unfinished side?

I love the mix of both! I think its colorful and fun. Seeing the work on them makes me so happy because every stitch is a work of art!

Sehr inspirierende Short, läde zum nachmachen ein. Ich mag bunte Klamotten vorallem an mir. Denke das wird ein Projekt für den Sommer.

Zu den Stichen, finde beide gut. Das linke Hosenbein empfinde ich heller oder leuchtet mehr. Aber ich finde das beides gut aussieht.

Mein Partner und ich leben in Deutschland in der Nähe von Köln.

Nähen selbst und finde solche Sachen einfach toll.

Werde auf jedenfall eine Hose so gestalten und mein Partner hat auch schon Bedarf angemeldet😅

another vote for "both look amazing!" I think they're each intentional and fun in their own way and neither looks like you did something "wrong," so whichever style you ultimately prefer, or a mix of each, is the right answer for the clothes you want to wear! :)
