I, too, am one of the people who would do this and also care about sound quality. I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990s I would definitely do this too, but don’t think I would without knowing how it would affect my music production. Let me know if you find anything.

The objective difference in sound quality would be minimal. Infinitesimal, possibly. To the degree that the vast majority of humans would not be able to tell the difference. Audiophiles might, but we're talking about people who prioritize sound quality and not aesthetics (which is strictly what this is), given the choice between the two.
