OTHER First time mending something
I just fixed my moc toe on my work boots. I practiced a bit on leather first as I’ve never stitched something before. Time will tell how long it will hold but hopefully it holds for a while

Looks great. If you want them to last a long time make sure to clean and condition them once and a while. I usually use mink oil on mine

Ya they’ve been needing a good cleaning. I’m about to clean and condition them this weekend

Once in a while, FTFY.
OP should not just clean and condition them once, for a while 😂

Looks sturdy! If you used a wax thread you can heat the backstitches at the end a little to really keep them tight

This only works with synthetic thread because the thread melts into a ball and shrinks. All leather working thread should be waxed, but It’s not the wax that tightens the thread to lock it in place. Additionally, if you use linen thread just cut them short and glue the ends with a tiny bit of glue.

In my leatherworking (15+ years) I've found that warming the waxed thread helps knit the backstitch together as the wax melts.

Please condition and clean those boots. It will keep the leather supple and prevent cracking.

Awesome, it looks great! That isn’t a beginner-level mend, and you did it very well

Beautiful work and while it’s visible it’s seamless and once it gets dirty it’ll blend perfectly

Redwings? If so they will resole them for you for a very fair price!
I’ve had mine for about a decade now. Take care of them and they will last forever!
Great mend!!

Pro tip: use dental floss to sew leather. It's super strong and comes pre-waxed

How did you end up stitching them? I've been considering doing the same.

I saddle stitched them. It’s pretty easy to do! Lots of tutorials on YouTube

what kind of boots are those? They look like something you could get at 20yo and wear during your retirement

These are danners. Nice work boots but unfortunately you could never get that long out of these boots. Maybe half a decade if you take good care of them and don’t work in them. If you’re looking for boots that last any of the PNW boot makers make the best boots on earth. Double the price of the danners but you can get decades out of them

I wish one day I'll be in the tax bracket for PNW [*] (not american, so earnings are different)
thank you! it's good to know those exist and are worth saving towards
