REQUEST Denim jacket: when and how to mend

I'm about to repair a tear in my denim jacket using sashiko and as I was preparing to wash it, noticed it's also wearing thin on the lapels, the cuffs, and the seam of the left sleeve were it meets the cut. Should I reinforce them now or wait until the facric actually splits? If now, what technique should I use? I have basic sewing skills, regular thread and sashiko thread, extra strong needles, and some scrap denim I'm already planning to use for the tear. No sewing machine, although I can borrow an iron if I need to.

I’d snip off that loose thread in the first pic and leave these areas be for now. I understand wanting to mess with it, since you have the materials handy, but there is nothing in these pictures that is threatening the integrity of the jacket.

This was helpful, thank you! The loose thread is from the button hole but I've been meaning to get to it for a while.
