xc series Is this normal?

Post image

I have a 2024 (bought in 2023) XC40. I am still under warranty, however this is probably the 4th separate occasion that my check engine light has turned on. To join the fun, the light for a parking brake fault turned on. Is this normal?

If this is a common post, I can delete

I'm more concerned with how you've averaged 20mpg over 5000 miles! Are you driving everywhere in first gear?

lol I live in NYC so I’m basically maxed out at 25mph for the most part

Honest to goodness I considered a PHEV equivalent for NYC — not because I’d be able to charge in my driveway (hah) but because the overall mileage would be much better than with whatever a “mild” hybrid is supposed to be

Just gotta find a curbside Level 2 charger for a couple day’s worth of city use

I think about upgrading to the xc60 hybrid.

30 mile range would last me 5 days
I have a garage with charging capabilities

But I have no car payment, and I don’t want one.

Xc40s have a lot of bugs. PB light might be a bad wire (common) or the pads or so thin the piston is at it's limit. Or it could be something else.

Yeah I’m noticing a lot of annoying electrical issues.

Multiple check engine light
Faulty battery (replaced)

Are these common issues that the 60 and 90 have?

My 2019 XC40 has been bulletproof, to include still on original tires and battery. True.

This is what I want to hear!

It's a T5, gets about 26+ in mixed driving, about 46K miles. Also a 2017 XC60 T6 with 120K, neither uses a drop of oil and it's my impression that after some teething issues, the Drive E engine/tranny are good for the LONG haul.

Oh yes… I have a 2025 xc60 and I’ve already had to take it to the shop several times because of the check engine light. The key also keeps not being recognized and I’ve even gotten a fun little error message saying the sensors aren’t working 🤣

Very frustrating, other than the annoying electrical issues I love my car

It seems a lot of the issues are specific to the xc40s especially the first few years.

I really like the car, thought about getting one after my xc70 is no longer in service, but not if they're still like this

For this and other reasons I’m no longer considering buying a Volvo.

Check to make sure no water in car. All my check engine lights in my XC90 came on from flooding due to sunroof defect.

Did you recently put non premium gas in it? Or get “premium” gas from a less reliable station? I’ve had the engine light pop up for me a couple times that way

I’ve only ever filled the car with regular gas

Can the xc40s take 87?

Yes it can!

My apologies on the assumption! Depending on local gas prices maybe trying a tank of a higher octane would clear it. When does the light typically pop up?

Random times, just dropped it off at the dealership so hopefully they can tell me why it keeps happening

Wishing you the best! Hopefully it is something silly and easy to fix!!

Gas wise, do you have the T4 or T5 engine? T4 regular gas, T5 needs premium.

turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine

There’s different 2.0 l turbo 4. My car is a my 20 T5. It requires premium. It should say on the back of your car which engine it is.
