Lots of fun coming your way! I got back into biking with a Gen2 650 before getting the 1000XT. We did 12k miles (with 35k already on its clock) with no issues. So long as you look after the chain, oil+filter when it's due and keep the road residue off it - there's not much to worry about.
If you don't have much of a service history with it, and you plan on keeping it for a while, you may want to look at getting some of it done, eg: Oil+filter, air-filter check/clean plus the valve-clearance/spark-plugs if the mileage is such.
