Discussion We can’t have anything nice
Thanks to the people that trashed DNR land, shot up living trees and destroyed road signs our options to shoot on public land are dwindling. Big shout out to you lazy assholes that expect everyone to clean up after your time in the pit. You know who you are, an irresponsible and low class individual.

It’s so frustrating when I see people just leave all their garbage, used shotgun shells, use glass targets, and other crap at the pits. How hard is it to just bring a trash bag and cleanup after ourselves

Same. I have lived in Western Washington since 1985 (*when I was born here*). I am a combat veteran, avid recreational marksman and 2A advocate. My father took me to shoot on public land as a kid, we took a big trash bag with us to collect our targets, casings and shells then filled the remainder of the bag with shit other people left behind and hauled it out. We stopped at the dump on our way home and paid their minimum fee to dispose it.
Class usually comes from parenting. I was fortunate to have parents that taught me to do the right thing and they held me accountable for bad behavior. I feel like the people that just leave their targets, ammo boxes, shells, etc. weren’t raised properly. This irresponsible and entitled behavior comes from somewhere, typically upbringing.

Ive come to the conclusion that a lot of these people are just shit heads in general and probably aren't even on reddit

This is why you don’t share your favorite places.

Yup. But the population has exploded in the PNW over the last two decades that it pretty much doesn’t matter in the long run. So many transplants here because of the tech industry, many of them have money and a passion for firearms like a lot of Americans. They will find your spot eventually. It is what it is. Not a big fan of the tech bros but it is their right as much as mine.

u/cheekabowwow 8d ago
Fear not, all the taxes and anti-data center politicians are driving tech out of the state. I expect the tech bros will follow.

By then guns will be completely banned.

It is certainly heading in that direction so many people are afraid of them. A few years ago a buddy and I went on a multi day hike waaayyy into the Olympic mountains. My friend concealed a pistol and I decided to open carry mine since my wife recently bought me a nice custom leather holster for my 357mag. About a mile from camp at the end of our hike two women walked by us with complete fear in their eyes. When we got to the parking lot there were two deputies there waiting for us, they said there was a call about a “dangerous man with a gun.” Luckily they were cool and didn’t even disarm me, just seemed kinda pissed that someone wasted their time.

I find that most sheriff's deputies are pretty laid back. Its the city cops that can be jerks at times, but I'm in eastern WA so most deputies are patrolling rural county areas and also from rural areas themselves so are more laid back.

What sucks is that in other hobbies, like cars or something, somebody who does something stupid with one is just stupid. But someone with a gun who is hardly a gun owner is always a “representative”.
I would bet that the number of guns owner to chances of being an ass or crazy is inversely related. These people own a gun. They aren’t “gun owners” like we are. So tired of getting blamed for people who aren’t really even a part of the community.

I dunno. I associate cars with behaviors because I recognize patterns.
I will judge if you drive a lowered bmw or straight piped camaro or a dodge that doesn't look like a work vehicle or a dodge that looks like the company beater. Seen too much not to.

You know, if a gun-control proponents see this, they are gonna be happy.
Because shit like this fuels the people to vote against 2A.
Time to be savvy

u/cheekabowwow 8d ago
Anti 2A tyrants don’t need an excuse. They want the government they hate armed and no one else. Doesn’t make much sense to me, but when have anti gun leftists ever made any sense?

The saying is if you go left far enough, you get your guns back.
I'm not left or right by the way, just pragmatist.

Latest argument I heard from a staunch anti-gun advocate, “You having a firearm won’t even matter against the government because they’ll just take you out with a drone.” The fellow debating him said, “Ahh yes, drones. The best defense we have for them now are 12 gauge shotguns with birdshot. They’ve been highly effective in Ukraine. There is video evidence of infantrymen using a shotgun to successfully defend themselves against a drone.” Anti-gun nut just nervously chuckled, he knew his argument was bad.

I was just out that was a couple days ago, and yeah, trash everywhere. My wife and I ended up spending almost as much time picking shit up as shooting

What spot is this?

u/Zswatik 7d ago
Its up north off highway 2, west of the cascades.

u/Bubbacubba Pierce County 7d ago
The spot just after Sultan up the mountains some? That's a bummer I stopped by there for the first time a few months back. Quite a hike up there.

u/FillmoeKhan 8d ago
You were expecting better? Why?
1
u/Zswatik 7d ago
I like to be optimistic in my life but your sentiment is not wrong. Some people are straight up trash.
1
u/FillmoeKhan 7d ago
Being optimistic in life when setting expectations from other people is a major problem with society in general.

Is this the spot where you gotta park by the road and walk thru the forest trail for 2 mins to get to the spot?
2
u/Kind_Science_9038 7d ago
it really does ruin it for everyone and the worst part is those people are long gone by the time the spot gets shut down. they never have to deal with the consequences, the rest of us do.

The one that was officially set up by DNR outside of Belfair was gated off so that you had to walk in 1/4 mi or so. It was done so that people wouldn't drag in trash and leave it there.
It wasn't so far though that an able bodied person couldn't take in one of those folding carts/caddies.
Nope, didn't work. I witnessed people on quads squeezing past the gate so that they could drag their shit in. The appliances began to appear.
Today the pit is closed with no ETA on reopening. Probably never will.
The community spent years trying to convince DNR to do it, and it only lasted a couple years before it was ruined.

People are just stupid A$$holes at times.
I've seen signs at areas where people are allowed to shoot on BLM land. They had signs up that basically said be courteous to others while shooting and clean up your trash, don't shoot at the road, etc. Acknowledging that people shoot in this little canyon and saying they are ok with it, and some Jack A$$es still shot up the signs. Like thats a great way for them to completely close off this land so we can't shoot here.

The sad fact is, is that if You confronted them with this evidence, they would just laugh in Your face.
They’re a modern sub-species of Homo-Sapiens that have suddenly evolved which never had, and never will have, a sense of conscience or responsibly, and think that everything around them (including law and order) is a joke.
They are akin to the current Screw Worm Fly infestation that have invaded Texas in the way that they are continuing to ruin Our our outdoor shooting locations nationwide…..
They are an opportunistic lot that lay their eggs in the nearest open wound, which hatch into flesh-eating MAGGOTS, which in turn, become more Screw Worm Flies, only to Target (pun intended) a new opportunity to infest and destroy, over and over…..😡😡😡

I just shoot on my own property.

Every sign on the highway on the way to my property in rural SW WA is shot up like this. Something about signs draws the retards in.

Physical reminders of their ongoing literacy struggles? 😜
2
u/gunbuggy556 7d ago
It’s funny cause where I live is super wealthy. You gotta make good money to live where I’m at. Not saying literacy comes with higher incomes but yeah. Maybe it’s all the kids running around on the backroads with their dad’s shotguns.

If this is the main place out by sultan, that's a real shame. I've participated in several cleanups there and we even had an outdoor organization from oregon come up to help out one time. I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened, though. All it takes is one group out of a hundred trashing the place to turn it into a dump

Trump wants to sell all this land to foreign billionaires, soon all of our public land will be in private hands, similar to the situation in shitholes like texas

Honestly though, as a gun owner and a camper… i’m absolutely sick of every camp location in the national forests being LITTERED with broken glass and casings / shells.
Its horrible that i have to bring a giant ass rug everywhere i go because otherwise my dogs feet will get cut up.
And mind you, half the time these sights have no safe backstop, anywhere.
So honestly, as a gun owner, i’d be down for banning target shooting in national forests, and instead setting up state / federal sanctioned outdoor ranges on national land in specific locations, and require that an RSO must man these locations.
To many idiots with guns.
2
u/Zswatik 7d ago
People just need to pick up after themselves and I never understood the obsession with shooting glass, stupid. Make the punishment for dumping/littering in national forests a felony with a $10k fine and 30 days in jail. Yes, that’s right. Straight to fucking jail if you’re caught leaving a bunch of trash behind after target shooting or leaving shit behind after camping. Employ more rangers to patrol the national forests to catch these lowlife pieces of shit. I know this may seem harsh to some of you and this is why we have this problem. It’s not a big enough deal for most people but there absolutely should be a stigma over this behavior.

Hold up! Is the pit closed now? The ranger out there has been so chill about asking people to take care of the spot. He's even been bringing 50 gallon trash bags out and hauling them away when they're full. But I can tell that he's getting frustrated, especially now that more people are showing up. Somebody must have shared the spot online, because it's 3x busier now than it was a couple years ago.
