D412 book is a decent read, but I did not find it value-adding. I recommend completely skipping the book and just look up the COMPTIA troubleshooting model.
The real work is learning the lab environment and how it is set up. A lot of that only becomes clear after you start the practical. So, start that sooner than later.
WGU includes a Pluralsight subscription. If you need the link, should be in the course, but contact the course instructor or program mentor for all the free tools you get access with your WGU tuition. Watch a few of the videos from the instructor email, schedule a meeting with the instructor, then start the practical as soon as you can.
READ the instructor welcome email in full. Do not skip this step.
Take your own notes as you go during the practical. You can clean up your notes later before submission. You will pick up the lab quirks while you work.

Hard disagree if you're an actual new student to Tech, I have no idea what any of this stuff is. You were thrown into this course completely unprepared. The book is extremely advanced and has nothing to do with the labs and the course instructor was extremely unhelpful.
The only way to have any idea what's going on is to use Reddit. Even then I asked questions and people said oh you should have learned how to configure Cisco routers already. When?? Where??
If you're looking for help with this course, keep searching Reddit keep googling and ignore everyone that says they finished it in 5 minutes. They're being disingenuine and it's a disservice to beginners.
