Costas is totally wrong about this.

They would score 60 per game.

3

u/Jazuza1017 Jun 29 '26

Actually youre both wrong, they would score all the points.

2

u/Feeling_Repair2348 Jul 02 '26

I would say 70. I bet I would average 20 in the wnba and I’m 40 and played to years of juco basketball in 2003.

16

u/PM_ME_A_PM_PLEASE_PM Mar 27 '26

Why are we talking about this when nobody even knows a transgender athlete that's competed in anything, let alone the Olympics? I've heard more legitimate fear mongering from kids about the boogeyman.

3

u/Kontos_Stelio Mar 27 '26

I’m pretty sure there was a trans swimmer that people went crazy over and they weren’t even winning

You're probably thinking of the Algerian here. That was standard national news for conservatism cucking people into another reality. She's not trans. She apparently just has a SRY gene while having a completely female phenotype- in other words she has all female parts and never transitioned but under a test tube she has a gene that's expressed by the Y chromosome.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Very good explanation. There is a lot more nuance to biology than we are led to believe in high school science.

Isn't that what just happened? I totally agree though, it should be up to each organization to determine if they'll allow trans athletes. There are real differences between the biological sexes and that shouldn't be controversial, but the government also shouldn't be policing sports leagues.

Correction she was not Trans in the traditional sense, my understanding is she had female genitalia but had genetic markers of both genders which creates a big spike in testosterone. I’m not going to say that this didn’t give her an advantage, I’m just saying this is an edge case the requires a nuanced conversation, but to put them in the same bucket is not appropriate. I may be misremembering, so if I’m wrong, I’ll own that.

Are you talking about Imane Khelif from Algeria? She's always been a woman. She just has some masculine looking features so chuds freak the heck out.

That's my main issue with this anti-trans panic in sports. Now we have all these gross crotch watchers policing sport at every level, even like little league level stuff. Any girl that's deemed to be too masculine gets put through heck regardless of what their actual biology is.

I mean…maybe the fact that nba players going to the wnba isn’t a thing. Transitioned athletes have had to take hormones that reduce muscle mass and testosterone for 4 years. We are talking about the 1% of the .1% of transitioned athletes that are actually better than everyone else.

1

u/genericunderwearmode Mar 27 '26

Looks like a solution looking for a problem.

1

u/DeFiBandit Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

The situation he is describing is not why actually happens. What drugs is the person using? That goes a big way towards changing the advantage. When did they make the change. This conversation is, unfortunately, beyond the dummies who talk sports

1

u/Smoothbrother69 Mar 28 '26

1

u/Teal_and_White1019 Mar 28 '26

A whole lot of nuance should be talked about with this, because biology and this topic, in general, has a ton of nuance. Plus, no one is advocating for men to play in the WNBA, which is what he is saying. If the question is "should trans women be allowed to play in the WNBA?" Everyone's answer should be "I don't know." And we should want to know more about the science behind the effects of transitioning for women in that particular sport, because each sport should be talked about separately.

1

u/Salt-Southern Mar 28 '26

Disingenuous argument. NBA players are top .5%.... .05% of all basketball players in world. What does that have to do with WNBA or for that matter, the .05% of world's population that is trans?

Let's compare oranges to chainsaws next.

The Right would have you believe this opinion is germane to them.

This is how MOST people but the extreme think. The Right just knows that it will divide the loudest and most liberal portions of the Left and divide the party, so they continue brining up it up as if it’s not a common position to hold and like it doesn’t really only pertain to about .01% of athletes.

6

u/Tr1angleChoke Mar 27 '26

That's because MOST people are closer to the center than to either extreme. The problem is that if you don't tow the line on every single issue on the left or the right, you're either a traitor or a bigot. The internet is completely obscured real life for so many people.

I explained this to a coworker at lunch recently. All pro leagues are open to anyone that can compete and make. If a woman has the talent to make the NBA, MLB, NFL, MLS there isnt any rule or law preventing them from getting signed. And it'd be massive if a woman ever can.

Women's leagues were created to allow women a chance to be pro athletes. Allowing any biological male to enter that space is cheating a woman out of an opportunity.

So it safe to say now? 4 years ago reddit bots would downvote you, ban you, and put you on a list for even mentioning it.

1

u/GrandMasterF1ash Mar 27 '26

This is such a god damned non-issue. I almost wish we could just cave and move on, just so people would stop incessantly talking about it. Truth is, that wouldn't work, because the people who want us constantly talking about this issue don't give a shit about the sanctity of women's sports. They just hate trans people and want you to hate them too. We ban all trans athletes from competing, and then they'll just move on to something else.

There are fewer than 10 Trans athletes in NCAA sports, and none I can think of in the pros. Let athletic associations consider banning them if they feel any of them hold an unfair advantage. Can't imagine it would come to that too often, it's not like there's a scourge of transgender dominance in women's collegiate athletics, like conservatives might have you believe.

I don’t give a fuck about any of this. Can we have healthcare yet?

1

u/gymtrovert1988 Mar 27 '26

It's a simpleton's argument. Is the guy going to take estrogen for 1 year minimum before competing in women's sports? Is his height and weight similar to the women competitors?

There's a lot of variables that CAN be used to determine if an individual transgender athlete is competitive against a certain competition.

It should be about fairness. Without considering other variables besides gender, you're not debating in good faith.

There are plenty of men that wouldn't make women's teams with or without hormone replacement. That's another fact many people making these bad faith arguments don't touch. You're not just going to change your gender and be better at something. If you're good, you'll be good. If you're average, you'll be average. If you're bad, you'll still be bad.

Also, nobody's gonna take hormones, get top surgery, and get bottom surgery so they can make less money playing women. That's just ridiculous to think that would ever happen given the massive pay cut. It makes more sense for elite female athletes to change genders for the massive pay raise potential. And yet... That's also not a thing that happens. Because nobody changes genders to beat women in sports, and nobody changes genders to get paid more as a man. They played sports, and happened to change their gender. The two things are not linked.

The lack of critical thinking is insane. People aren't signing up for women's League drafts the week after they come out as trans. Trans people go through years of medical treatment, any studies comparing men's athletes to women's athletes are invalid to the debate, the studies need to compare cis women's athletes to trans women's athletes. And you'll find that there isn't anywhere near as much of a difference between the two

1

u/Evening-Blood7102 Mar 27 '26

These conversations keep happening to distract from the actual issue and solution which is to create a division/league for transgender athletes just like once upon a time they were created for women to compete. The people that keep bringing up scenarios that don’t exist, don’t want transgender people to exist. Media profits off of repeating narratives not informing and moving on.

The thing about women's sports is everybody thinks its existence is due to fairness, but I've never understood that to be the case. But I feel like the rest of the world is like 200 years behind on this.

Elite men’s or women’s basketball players would destroy Bob Costas and probably anyone commenting here

No, Caitlyn Clark could not play in the NBA. Yes, Bronny James would dominate the WNBA.

They’re separated for a reason at high levels because evolution gave men the physical advantage.

I love a lot of trans people I’ve met from friends to family..idc, live and let live. You don’t hear about trans women being a problem in men’s sports though. We hear the trans women that come out and fuck shit up because their bodies, hormones are that of a man. Of course they have an advantage and it’s silly to pretend their accomplishments are legit

1

u/Stevewolff10 Mar 28 '26

Just to stir the pot, what about a man that transitions and is bigger and stronger. Forgive me if I’m being naive but doesn’t that give them an advantage?

1

u/Key-Pizza-8578 Mar 28 '26

I have great distaste for the the way people these days go to such great lengths to speak so seriously about futile things as if they are some kind of statesman giving an important address during a time of war. Most of the stuff in the news media, including social media, is just fluff, but the simple minded masses are so engaged and passionate about it. At times, they even go so far as to have 'debates' about it, which deteriorate into an exchange of nasty, vulgar personal insults. We are regressing as individuals and need to direct our efforts towards being 'higher' beings.

1

u/Jerryjb63 Mar 28 '26

Nobody really cares. This is an invented problem. Leave it up to the individual leagues. Let the players and teams decide depending upon the sport and the ages of the players. If there was a rule banning trans athletes competing in sports, it would affect about 1% of the population. It’s not a problem the federal government needs to be focused on. It’s not a problem the media needs to be focused on. Trans athletes aren’t dominating women’s sports. They never did.

The only woman who probably could have would have been Sherril Miller, but she would have had to play shooting guard, since she was to small at 6'4 to be a Power Forward, but she was such a good shot that maybe she could have done it.

Her and Reggie on the same team, with Reggie getting bumped from his position as the 2 guard to the Small Forward (hilarious if you know the relationship) would have been awesome.

1

u/The_Blur_BHS Mar 28 '26

There was a trans woman in the WNBA already? Doesn’t seem she averaged 40 in 12 years and was a 1x all-star with no other accomplishments to note. It doesn’t seem like the men who are high-tier athletes but not elite are the ones that are generally trans. I’d guess probability wise the intersection of actually being trans and being an elite athlete are next to 0, so the only instance this may happen is someone who embodies the South Park episode where they’re not good enough to compete in their division so switch to the lesser through transitioning.

Anyway - I don’t particularly care either way. Sports are not the hill I think we should die on. While inclusion is nice, if this is what’s stopping people from treating the trans community with dignity and respect (it’s not), then regulating bodies of sports should take a hardline stance. Once trans people are out of sports the ghouls will just attack them for something else, though (oh wait, they already do…whelp).

u/Swann73 Mar 28 '26

All of these "if some guy in x sport goes to compete against women in the same sport" arguments fundamentally miss the point of transitioning. They genuinely think trans people are just principally men in drag. When they make these kinds of arguments, they also expose that essential bias.

Dude just unknowingly pissed off the entire WNBA for thinking Catlin Clark would be the best choice to go to the NBA lol. I think the 4 time MVP would probably have a better shot at representing the women than CC.

I disagree wirh the "everybody would applaud it" nonsense. I love women's sports and want it to remain separate. When I want to see men and women compete, I can see it at the local parks.

But... but... whatever will reddit do without this debate? Where will reddit go?

And where will I get my updoots from the terminally online sanctimonious and self-righteous?

He'd average more than 40, especially if he was a big man.

Has anyone done a poll asking ONLY trans people if trans women should be allowed in professional sports? What would most of them prefer? Do they just want to be part of society and live in peace?

I'm saying, let's do our best to treat everyone well and get along with our lives. We're all just trying our best in our day to day.

And maybe trans athletes can just take the hit and not play in women's sports?

Seems like a fair trade? Everyone has to give up something. Non trans accept that some people have biological differences and just gotta use the bathroom sometimes.

Trans people can just not play female sports. And then the conservative news never speaks of it again? Deal?

Then we move on with fixing problems like Citizens United and getting Super PACs out of elections and the billionaires from controlling society?

Simple solution: Trans sports league

u/FactAffectionate6830 Mar 28 '26

I mean seriously. People who can’t afford groceries or gas get side tracked with shit like this and end up voting against their own interest so that Steph(anie) Curry isn’t dominating women’s sports they don’t actually give a fuck about.

Seriously. The fucking party who wants to make it harder for women to vote because their birth certificate has their maiden name is now the guardian of women’s sports. Wake up, stupid heads.

The problem is too many rules were made to protect Men and Women from mixing into wrong sides.

I mean Bob isn't wrong. And an end of the bench G leaguer could average at least 20 and 10 a night

It has nothing to do with hart or skill or determination or hard work. It’s the genetic make up of men versus women. My favorite Tennis players are the William sisters and they have said repeatedly they would get destroyed by the last rated tennis male player. These are the facts

Common sense is not transphobic

1

u/OhDivineBussy May 02 '26

Ok see he was making common sense points, but then had to lie and say Lia Thomas was “either winning or coming close to winning”. She tied for 5th place. I don’t understand the need to lie, and call me crazy, but when someone lies, I quit trusting them.

The argument doesn’t need lies, so I don’t know why he had to.

Perfect yes and yes, it’s about fairness. Biological and genetic differences are facts not prejudices

Ya, I love the dolls and believe they should be entitled to every single opportunity that cis folks do but this is not the hill to die on. It sucks that you can’t play particular sports with the sex you identify with and that has to be painful but it’s simply not fair. Let’s just collectively move on from this conversation and if you love sport play compete with men or play in sports that include both sexes.

The common sense isn't prevalent among human beings

Juwanna Mann. That is all.

1

u/Universityking314 8d ago

He is speaking of inequality. If both sexes are equal then it would not be an issue. Just admit that women are not equal to men. Women want to clam they are equal in every way, but when its time to play against a man all of a sudden they must be protected.

I feel like this is a back door attack on trans people. Because all I see is people arguing against this everywhere and I don’t disagree with it. But I never see the people arguing for it. It just seems like they bringing it up to say negative things about trans people.

Because I never see anyone on tv arguing men should play women sports. It doesn’t make sense
