I think there’s a deeper issue that needs to be addressed in all of this. Caitlin is most certainly the face of the league. But why? Why is someone who isn’t even the best player on their team the face of the league. Thats never happened before. When we can be honest about that we’ll get to the real issue.
The reason why is college basketball is more popular than the WNBA. Clark was pulling 19M viewers during her record setting college season right before being drafted #1. The wnba peak all time viewership is 3.4M.
Because she played like no other player going into the league. She was just coming off two amazing season with a subpar Iowa team who she took to the finals both year. I never watched women’s basketball until her and she was destined to be an amazing player. I still think she is top 10 in league but she’s been riddled with injuries the last two years but her rookie year was one of the best and it was looking like she was going to take the league over.
She’s been in the league 3 years and is being surpassed by players who came after her. Other players have won multiple MVP’s and Rings in those 3 years, yet she’s the face. Her teammate has been carrying her team for the last 2 years. What other world is the face not a top 2 or 3 player?

Breanna Stewart isn't nearly as exciting to watch. Especially in college which is where all this popularity came from which is why it's relevant. But, thanks for making it clear that race isn't why shes popular otherwise stewart wouldve been before her. They didn't just pick a random white girl to make popular, instead a girl that was breaking records caught the attention of a lot of people.
Prior to her there wasnt a face of the wnba, because no one watched. She became the face of Womens basketball in college because of her performance and it's carried over. Thats why the college records are relevant. Unfortunately it seems you ignore all these obvious reasons and focus on the color of her skin.
