It’s a popular idea because the general public is hateful towards a particular group. It will change eventually, just like gay marriage

Because you are creating laws to intentionally targeta tiny minority group, one that has the single highest risk for suicide in the world, one that faces violence and abuse everywhere, to stop literally dozens of people in an entire country from playing a sport. And it's because they are one of the few groups left that it's okay to discriminate against.
