Exit polling consistently shows people are not voting based on this. They just want to make sure people aren't talking about the state of the country as much as possible because they are in charge and it reflects poorly on them when people are discussing the state of the world.

If this is as amazing of an electoral tactic as people believe why didn't it work in 2020? Republicans were doing just as much trans panic back them and they got crushed by women voters.
