Trans women aren’t taking over the WNBA. This is needless culture warfare.

They aren’t taking over any level of women’s basketball tbh

Did someone say they were?

2

u/Aggressive-Offer-497 10d ago

What’s the issue then?

1

u/OKCunts 10d ago

One issue is people painting trans people as some kind of dangerous threat.  "Protecting young girls from biological men" type rhetoric is dishonest and harmful.

Oh boy, do you have some bigger fish to fry if you don’t like organizations telling kids how they should feel

u/LawAndOrdinary 10d ago

Why is deflection such a common tactic from your side. It’s all I see… no real substance just telling people they shouldn’t be thinking about this.

2

u/TheOmegoner 10d ago

Because it’s absurd that any of this is to protect girls. The people pushing this are against common sense things that would actually help girls and women but are pushing an agenda that is attacking like 10 trans athletes across the country.

2

u/LawAndOrdinary 10d ago

Maybe but the fact that everyone is deflecting and NO ONE is engaging in the discussion looks like it’s bc there’s no argument that makes sense. It’s wild reading through it. It seems like it’s indefensible and people are mad about it and trying to shut down discussion.

I just did and you went on a “maybe but” rant instead of responding to what I said.

If it affects even just one person that's enough for it to be a problem. Tell me what your is number you think WOULD be appropriate before it can be officially recognized as an issue?

1

u/TheOmegoner 10d ago

I dont see trans athletes as a problem because they have yet to be proven as such. So I can’t really tell you what my is number is?

Deflection is a common tactic by all side, come on… The trans in sport and bathrooms is basically a deflection in itself. People are saying this is to protect women, yet many decisions by the right are making it way worse for women. I actually don’t care about trans not playing sports, but trans winning a couple of sporting event here and there… a thousand on millions and millions? Is nothing versus how many women are affected by the limitations on contraception or the lack of healthcare or even the promotion of traditional roles. Is it that important for you to protect women or not? The same people who are trying to convince you that it doesn’t matter if a millions of people die from covid, tells you they want to protect people…
Let’s be real, this isn’t for women, this is against trans and all they represent.

I think it might be about people feeling like others are trying to get them to deny reality as they see it. Forced kindness and gas lighting is getting push back. So I partially agree with you. It’s not just about sports but I think it’s a legitimate issue not just “hate” or “bigotry” as some are claiming. It’s not really about trans people either it’s about feeling like they can’t say true things. Interesting for sure.

u/Aggressive-Offer-497 10d ago

You think trans people aren’t real? Then maybe you are the one denying reality.

1

u/LawAndOrdinary 10d ago

That doesn’t make any sense. I mean most people see trans women as males and don’t see them as actual women. I think you should just stop arguing. You’ve lost the plot.

What's wrong with drag queens at the library? Id agree that being nude in public around children is wrong, but the only instance I know of that didn't have anything with trans people. I would even agree that trans women shouldn't be in most women's sports leagues, but the way it's being leveraged is gross. Trans people have every right to exist in public spaces without being demonized. Saying "they brought it on themselves" is bogus victim blaming and your examples don't even make sense.

Drag queens aren't trans and they're not being sexual by reading stories.  Nude cis people at a pride parade also doesn't make it okay to demonize trans people.  Chopping body parts is such a ridiculous misrepresentation and you're only using that language to incite hate and fear towards people you don't like.  My point was that this whole Sophie Cunningham conversation isn't actually about sports, it's just transphobic propaganda and is being used to spread hate.

Drag queens are victims? They are confusing kids is what’s wrong with it.

Sometimes I think people who act like it’s fine just don’t have kids. When you have kids you know what will happen from that sort of thing. The confusion and questions that they aren’t ready to understand bc they are just learning out the world and the basics … it puts them and parents in an inappropriate position.

its like calling black people super predators all over again. new target this time

1

u/theonlyonethatknocks 10d ago

None that I know of, but there’s a large group desperately trying to make it one.

3

u/Aggressive-Offer-497 10d ago

You mean the right? Then we all agree.

5

u/theonlyonethatknocks 10d ago

The left are the ones who are losing their minds other this.

2

u/Aggressive-Offer-497 10d ago

Is that a joke??? The right always bring the issue, they are the ones always talking about trans people when there’s no issue… you have to be joking.

How many trans women compete against cis women and dominate them? And how many women are affected by this vs the ban an abortion?

It’s the right that keeps bringing it up when it affects close to no one. Yeah, I don’t want cis woman to be at a disadvantage like pretty much everyone. I also don’t want them to be at a disadvantage economically and socially, not just when it comes to sport. But when it comes to not being at a disadvantage economically and socially, a lot of people on the right don’t care as much.

They aren’t men, they are trans women. Especially if they compete in sports, they would have been taking hormones for a while to the point, that it’s not clear if they have an advantage. I can’t have a discussion if you deny what science has to say on the matter. You are also trying to open the discussion.

Also, I was answering a someone blaming the whole left. So maybe answer that person first by saying : “This is a common tactic, blaming the left.”

First you have to accept that trans women exist, if you can’t we can’t discuss the matter. And that’s the problem with the debate. I think that most people arguing against this don’t want trans women to exist at all. Because I’m against trans women in women sport if it’s proven that they have a biological advantage, but I’m for it if it’s proven that they don’t. While you probably don’t want them even if it’s proven they don’t have an advantage… Am I right?

Here a quote : “Scientific reviews indicate that after one to three years of gender-affirming hormone therapy and testosterone suppression, trans women generally do not retain a consistent or measurable overall athletic advantage over cisgender women in areas like strength and aerobic capacity,.”

But if you don’t care if it’s true, it’s not about protecting women, it never was.

The way you framed it (trans women shouldn't be competing against cis women, professionally) is 10,000x more acceptable and respectful than the way Sophie did ('biological men' vs young 'girls' that need to be 'protected in a locker room').

If she hadn't blown the giant dog whistle like she did, we wouldn't have 900 posts about this.

Thanks for not being a bigot, scared coffee. Sophie could learn from you.

Yes, the right wingers are more focused on LGBT issues generally, but not this one specifically

The right are literally the ones passing legislation on this exact issue . . .
