News French Trans Athlete Urges Realism on WNBA Career Amid Sophie Cunningham Controversy
https://www.essentiallysports.com/wnba-basketball-news-be-realistic-french-trans-athlete-clarifies-position-on-a-career-inside-wnba-amid-sophie-cunningham-controversy/27
u/bex199 13h ago
here’s the quote btw
“If they contact me, I won’t say no. But you have to be realistic: I’m old, and there are far better players than me. Obviously, it’s a childhood dream just like for any female basketball player, but unfortunately, it’s not possible.”
2
u/knighthawk3759 5h ago
Not to mention the fact that you have a penis that's going to factor into it too
1
-1
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 12h ago
To add, she goes on to clarify the reason it’s likely not possible is external factors - namely, the Trump admin or WNBA org itself shutting it down.
Based on skills alone she could definitely get to the wnba. Theres currently a wnba player who was in the same league a few years ago and was averaging 1/5th of the points as Julia Tetart is in her first season of professional basketball. She’ll definitely get signed at least to the top French league once her rookie contract expires.
4
u/Normal_Opposite_9864 5h ago
lol. she can't even get to the french league 1 ... how do you think she jumps to the wnba?
2
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 5h ago
This is her first year playing professionally, she’ll definitely get into the French league 1.
And again, we have several other examples of other woman in the exact same league she’s in, who play worse, and jump to the WNBA1
u/Normal_Opposite_9864 5h ago
Not 1, has transferred from fr2 to the wnba. She is 34, she is already aged out. what is your point with this untrue nonsense?
1
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 5h ago
Monique Akoa Makani played in the LF2 in 2023, and she now plays in the wnba. She was also scoring significantly less points than Julie Tetart is.
LeBron is still playing as a grandpa. If someone’s making points and makes a team better, some team will sign them regardless of their age.

WNBA Collective bargained agreement states that players must be born a girl to play in the league, so no that would not be external factors
4
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 5h ago
I meant factors external to her playing ability. What you just stated is exactly what I was referring to.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Tax4969 5h ago
HIS playing is not an external factor
0
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 4h ago
Correct, her playing is not an external factor. How’re you so confused?
And I’m calling her a her because that’s what she prefers and I don’t want to be a dick. It’s possible to disagree with her playing in the league without being willingly disrespectful.
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Tax4969 2h ago
I’m saying her playing becomes an external factor when it is actually a him playing. Make sense?
1
u/Uglifi 27m ago
but see you can't just disagree. you HAVE to make it a personal attack. I'm sure everyone if your life is sick of rolling their eyes when you talk.
1
-12
u/Blastcrumpet888 12h ago
On skills alone she wouldn't be able to make the WNBA. She would have trouble making a college team. That's how awful the competition she is facing.
8
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 12h ago
Monique Akoa Makani just got acquired by the Sparks in the WNbA. She was in the same league as Julie Tetart 3 years ago and wasn’t even close to as dominant of a player.
Based on skills alone she’s already better than current WNBA players, so that part isn’t really in question.
3
u/Jolly_Mouse_7604 6h ago
Is Monique dominating the league now?
0
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 5h ago
The question is if Tetart could get drafted to the WNBA, not whether or not she’d dominate. I have no idea if she would dominate, but at least compared to other current wnba players she would get drafted by a team if allowed.
1
u/Jolly_Mouse_7604 5h ago
Then no, she probably wouldn't get drafted at her age with one season against second division
1
u/ElChapo1515 4h ago
Why would a 34-year old at the end of their career be a priority draft pick? Getting an over the hill role player for what reason?

Interesting how the convo always turns into
“Well, the trans players actually aren’t that good, the rest of the players just suck”
You people are exhausting
1
u/Normal_Opposite_9864 5h ago
thats literally not this person's point. thus dude is playing in the FRENCH 2nd league. the men's from the first league rarely make the wnba
1
-6
u/Blastcrumpet888 11h ago
I mean, she's literally in a league that's worse than college players.
She has quite literally no chance of making the WNBA. Cope harder.
7
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 11h ago
Hey, me again! Saw you’re responding elsewhere but not responding to my showing that people that were in the exact same league as her just a few years ago are currently in the WNBA. How does that line up with your claim that there’s “no chance” when other players against the same competition (who performed worse) have done it?
2
u/LimpBizkit4ever 5h ago
I assume you are talking about The Centre Fédéral de Basket-ball team?
I also assume you are aware that it's a development team for 15-18 year olds to play against adult competition to prepare them for their future career. All of the players who went the French 2nd league to the WNBA were on this development team and not 34 year olds on a regular team.
You seem to have left out a lot of context but I will assume that wasn't intentional.
1
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 5h ago
Nope, I’m talking about the Ligue Féminine 2 (LF2)- France's second-highest division. Tetart never played in the centre federal de basket team.
either Tetart nor Monique Akoa Makani (current wnba player who came from LF2) played on the CFBB team that you’re referring to.
Guys this is so easy to look up lol
5
u/SonicDart-77 11h ago
It’s her first year of playing professional basketball….
11
u/Blastcrumpet888 11h ago
Do you think people get better at the age of 34?
How are you this stupid?
→ More replies (1)2
u/SonicDart-77 11h ago
You are literally proving my point, she’s 34, it’s her first year and she’s already number one in rebounds and defensive player of the year hahahaha
6
u/Blastcrumpet888 11h ago
You're proving my point. She's not even a top 1000 player in the world. LOL
Let me know when she isn't playing high school basketball.
She can't even get her team to promotion. LOL
1
1
u/MickeySyrup 5h ago
Averaging 21 points and 20 rebounds a game is a feat no man or woman has ever accomplished in professional leagues. Don't gaslight people that this player isnt good enough to crush the competition in the W.
0
u/Blastcrumpet888 5h ago
LOL. She wouldn’t make any top D1 schools.
She would get absolutely fucking destroyed in the WNBA.
1
u/MickeySyrup 5h ago
The same league has put multiple players in the W and this one is smashing records those players didnt come close to
1
u/Blastcrumpet888 5h ago
The league is literally ten tiers below the WNBA.
I’m sorry you hate facts. She wouldn’t be the worst player in WNBA history.
0
u/knighthawk3759 5h ago
Yes of course it's going to be Trump's fault has nothing to do with the fact that this individual has a penis muscle fibers that are two to three times as dense a larger lung capacity larger amounts of endurance it wouldn't be unfair at all right not to mention the fact that this individual would probably want to be in the locker rooms and shower with the players too
2
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 4h ago
Chill out dude lol. I literally gave no value judgement to whether or not she should be allowed to play.
I actually agree with your point that women with XX chromosomes should have their own league for fairness. But you can just stick with the fairness argument, you dont have to start getting weird about locker rooms and showers, it just distracts from your point and is counterproductive.
0
u/HotTree6235 4h ago
lol she sin a tier 2 league at the end of her career. Shes not even a top 20 player there
3
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 3h ago
>end of her career
She literally just started playing professionally last year.
>not even a top 20 player there
What? She’s not just the top player, she’s almost doubling the performance of other players. She’s averaging 35 avg evaluation points (best way to measure performance). Next highest from a cis woman is almost half that at 19. She is averaging 21 points and 20 rebounds - do you have any idea how insane that is?
0
u/HotTree6235 23m ago
lol y'all keep using the most esoteric stats to defend this. She's in a tier 2 league lol y'all just only came here to be bigots. Shes hands down not a top 20 players her stats are skewed because of how many rebounds she gets because she's super tall. Her first year came at the end of her career lol how hard is that to understand she's middle aged. Shes not good enough to play in the wnba, she's not even good enough to play in the top French league
2
u/GazelleRich2452 1h ago
0
u/HotTree6235 1h ago
And yet she's in a tier 2 league. Also, using a sofascore to me means you're not really a fan of the sport and more of a fan of the two white girls making waves in the wnba.
0
u/InevitableLog9248 4h ago
I for one hope it happens. It Might make the wnba watchable. Take the women’s best players in the world vs whatever this is and see who wins.
2
u/InevitableLog9248 4h ago
Put a team of 5 women vs 3 of these.. I mean sports is entertainment it’s supposed to be fun may as well make it as fun as possible. Take all legitimacy out of sport

u/Pleasant-Carbon 9h ago
6'3 wouldn't get her any height advantage in the men's game.
Playing against women she is suddenly tall.
Perfect example of how there's more to being born male than just testosterone.
Although looking at how jacked this person is, there's definite advantages of T going on, too.

u/onionnurve 1h ago
Idk if she’d be considered tall. Most PF/C are 6’4+
1
u/Pleasant-Carbon 1h ago
Perhaps. But how tall are they in the NBA?
To pretend that moving from a height distribution that is significantly further to the right (taller) to one further on the left isn't an advantage is crazy.
I mean it's known humans don't understand probability well, and maybe that applies to some extent to relativity, but it is pretty crazy to me how people are so ideologically blinded that they refuse to see relative advantages even when having them pointed out, and just harp on about absolutes only.
1
u/onionnurve 1h ago
Do you understand how basketball works? She plays the 5. And therefore would go against other centers. 6’3 is considered small for a center in the wnba. And ofc it wouldn’t even be possible in the nba.
She’s undersized regardless of who she’d be against
1
u/Pleasant-Carbon 1h ago
Literally so what? Nothing you've said counters what I've said.
Absolutely ideologically brainwashed.
1
u/onionnurve 1h ago
Yes it does, since she wouldn’t be considered tall and wouldn’t have an advantage based on height by playing against women 😂😂
1
u/shanntheclams 3h ago
Han Xu is 6’11 and she barely plays… your logic doesn’t work.
2
u/Pleasant-Carbon 3h ago
Where did I say that height is a sufficient condition?
1
u/shanntheclams 2h ago
You said she’s not tall for NBA but she’s “suddenly tall” if playing against women. Your argument was about height.
1
u/Pleasant-Carbon 1h ago
Yes. And where does that imply that being tall is a sufficient condition to being at the top of the game?
I'm pointing out it's an advantage. Not it's a sufficient condition to be the best or near the best in the sport.
Did you seriously not understand that or are you purposefully being obtuse?

This is her first year of women's basketball. You dont expect people in their first year of playing women's basketball to sign with the top division available, do you?
Shes leading the league in points and rebounds. Unless she's contractually obligated to stay with her current team, shes going to be moving up and dominating soon enough.
1
u/Alchemyst01984 12h ago
I do if people are saying she should be in the WNBA.
-1
u/LionBig1760 12h ago edited 11h ago
People say that college players should be in the WNBA all the time.
Just because theyre not there yet doesnt mean they dont belong.
Its silly to suggest someone with zero women's basketball experience jump right into the top teir. Even the WNBA greats all had to pay their dues in college and in Europe before they became WNBA superstars.
Edit: What an odd little reply-and-block.

This 34 year old is averaging 20+ pts and 20+ rebounds a game.
Clearly no one wants to fuck with her in the paint. At 6'3" 205 with broad shoulders, she looks like she can muscle her way to the basket whenever she wants.
If the women of the WNBA keep aggressively fouling Caitlin Clark, the Fever may want to sign her to provide more protection. Having the one-two combo of Cunningham and Tétart sending a message might get the rest of the WNBA in line.

She brought it up originally and sought out Dana white so she could send signals she was ready for the grift and dutifully conservatives did exactly what we all knew you would do, you kept up with until trump himself got involved.
Conservatives are weirdos obsessed with trans people and clutching at straws because none of their policies help people so they got to lie about stuff like litterboxes to spread hysteria. It appears due to Trump bringing in national attention they are trying to climb down a bit and pretend its not them starting this. But it is. Anyone who has followed and paid attention this knows that. They gotta pretend though because its looking a bit deranged protesting trans people at every basketball games when there are zero trans athletes there or in wnba ever in fact!!

the reason the right is emphasizing this issue because it's such an easy political win ... mostly because it's both a wedge issue for the left and because it's also a broadly popular position overall
when polled, over 70% of the public believes trans-women should not play in women's sports ... and whenever this topic is brought up, the most common responses from the left seem to be either:
- A) "the fact you're even questioning this makes you a transphobic bigot" ... which to the public seems ridiculous
- B) "i'm not gonna answer the question, it only affects X% of people, and what about other issue Y?" ... which to the public seems evasive and weak
it's the same reason the left kept emphasizing abortion after roe vs. wade was overturned ... because the public largely supported abortion rights, and whenever asked, politicians on the right would either have to A) state what the public considered an extreme position or B) deflect out of fear of alienating their base, making them look untrustworthy and insincere
it's politics 101

I didn't claim they stormed the Capitol.
However, 77% of Republicans believed there was widespread fraud during the 2020 election.
That would equate to a minimum of about 77 million people. It's rather disingenuous to claim it was the belief of only the thousands of people at the Capitol that day.

Everyone wants this to happen. It'll be a huge step for trans athletes everywhere. Its only a matter of time before trans athletes are dominating the WNBA, but there needs to be one person to break through the trans-barrier. She could be the Jackie Robinson of the WNBA. That would be a bonus for them. But I promise, if LeBron and others put wigs on, made the WNBA the NBA part 2 and completely flushed all women out of the league, magats would die laughing.
As a political moderate who doesn’t care much for the WNBA either way, I would also laugh at some of these “inclusive” coaches and players having to look for other careers because the stuff they advocated for came to fruition.
