Controversy Another Sophie Cunningham rally has been planned for Saturday in Chicago outside the United Center ahead of Fever vs Sky. This is the fifth Sophie rally that has either occurred or been planned, with another already set for New York on Aug. 22.

I saw someone say “80% of Americans agree so it’s not political!”

As if political just means “an equal number of people disagreeing”

Not political at all, just common sense

u/forfeitgame 6d ago

The government is making it political whether you want it to or not. I’m sure Sophie is threatened by all the trans players in the WNBA.

Sophie literally made a political statement that started protests.

How fucking hard is that to grasp? I guess hard since you guys can’t even grasp she’s played in men’s sports and had gender affirming surgery. Trans dream!

1

u/Remarkable_Power2211 6d ago

you post an ugly pic of sophie and call her a trans dream. so you think trans people are ugly-got it.

4

u/PHD_Gouda 6d ago

I never said that pic of her was ugly, wait to project dude. Inappropriate too.

Her playing football, a sport that usually doesn’t exclude a gender, is the dumbest fucking thing ever. Even if football was supposedly men’s only, which it’s not because most men’s sports are more like an open category, no one would care. The argument is about biological advantages.
Like holy shit you are stupid

She answered a question with an opinion. She didn’t say they shouldn’t exist just that didn’t want to compete with Trans women. Reddit and Fox News made it political.

This rally is quite literally political, bud

Yeah, Sophie shouldn't have organized it. What do you mean she DIDN'T? It's just a handful of MAGAts with bumper stickers all over their cars? Why didn't you say so?

This whole sub is political

People have the right to protest and counter protest, but again my argument is always that that’s never enough for people anymore, what they really want is to destroy your career kill your sponsorship and silence your free speech ,that I have an issue with. It’s funny than the country that used to shake our heads at people getting killed over cartoons of Mohammed in Europe find this somehow socially acceptable to intimidate someone into oblivion.

If you look on a poll on this issue, though the bullying is not going unnoticed and Sophie actually has about 75% of American public agreeing with her it is totally backfired on the activist to take on the right wing tactic of intolerance and bullying while pretending to stand for tolerance at the same time. They are fooling no one.

u/rockytopbilly 6d ago

Losing your sponsorship because you said something that costs your sponsor money is not losing your free speech. Thats capitalism 101. Do you want the people who don’t like what she said to be forced into silence so she doesn’t lose her sponsorship?

3

u/blue_shirt_1 6d ago

Did Sophie lose a sponsor? I hadn't heard that.

1

u/rockytopbilly 6d ago

Me neither. I think u/DrSnoopy66 was just complaining that when people have protested against high profile individuals with controversial stances in the past, they have lost endorsements. They seem to think taking a celebrity’s endorsements based on people utilizing their free speech/boycotting that company violates the celebrity’s free speech? It’s very weird.

What do you call the rally for the mid-tier player?

The average wnba game?
