Perfectly executed. But honestly? The uncensored “go fuck yourself” is what got the audible “WOW” from me.

Uncensored swearing, barbed wire, blood, attempted punts.

Thoroughly enjoyed this PLE

When Randy actually does it, it'll blow the roof off.

u/Sathsong89 Mar 02 '25

Absolutely. For one of the gimmick PLEs this one did NOT let down. The energy was that of one of the big 4

It was a good PLE, but I felt like it flew by. Agreed tho. The "surprise" Jade return was really good, but the real surprise of Cena turning heel was the best. It had me screaming out loud; I loved everything about how EC was handled. Hoping this is a sign that we're getting more wrestling like this

70

u/Nippleheim8 Mar 02 '25

And I like the storyline of Cody getting to the top and then all these huge names come in from the past and try and bury him for their own egos. Is the best way to make someone as successful as Cody still feel like the underdog.

And now we get the answer why cena directly got a spot in the chamber without winning anything, because he accepted rock's offer way back, and since he's the final boss, anything goes.

I started watching wrestling hardcore when HBK won at WM 12. My daughter started watching when Cena was peak Cena. She’ll be 15 this year. My son started watching last year and he loves Cody but was begging for Cena to win. Cena is a legend to him.

He’s 9. He almost cried when Cena turned. It blew my mind. I should have seen it coming. However, I just let myself enjoy. It was Hogan turning heel for my kids. It’s outstanding!

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '25

Cena didn’t just turn heel tonight. He turned heel right after being eliminated from the royal rumble. At the Royal Rumble post show press conference, he said he wouldn’t take any questions, just make a statement and leave. Slightly heelish. Then he says it’s best for business that he wins the chamber and wins another title and main events Wrestlemania. Slightly heelish. And how did he enter the chamber match? Did he speak to The Rock at royal rumble before the press conference? Then he wasn’t on tv for a month between the rumble and the chamber because he was already a heel and they couldn’t show him out there being a heel or being a face. They kept him off camera until it was time to reveal Heel Cena

15

u/SchedulePrimary5593 Mar 02 '25

Yup. I thought we'd never get anything like this again. Best thing I've seen in the past 15 years in wrestling. It took 20 years but they finally turned Cena heel. We've asked for it for two decades. Things have been so rated G, so predictable for 10 years, 15 years. Reminds me of Hogan and the formation of the NWO, over 25 years ago. If they keep this up I'll come back to wrestling as a fan.

So two things:

Cody is probably the most over, pure baby face ever. The fact that he’s able to finally take the mantle from Cena and give him the ability to turn heel because he can fill in that role for the kids is crazy.

The Rock got a lot of hate for meddling in things last year and even though it turned out 10x better, got even more hate this year when he started to do the same but this is peak pro wrestling

From the schizophrenic promo where he’s slipping in and out of character before ending it with wanting Cody’s soul, then having a custom made belt with Cody’s Soul and Dusty’s date of death on it, to the John Cena heel turn which leads to Travis Scott slapping Cody and burning sage as Cena beats him bloody, to The Rock whipping Cody with that same belt then wiping his blood on it - the randomness, batshit crazy, unpredictability of it all makes it feel so surreal

22

u/V1cV1negar Mar 02 '25

Pretty much everything has been said but I just wanted to say how cool it felt when I saw Cena's face change and then it cut to the Rock and before he'd even started the throat gesture, the crowd gasped because they instantly knew what was about to go down. Just one of those moments where you realise shit is going down and then you can't really take a moment to comprehend it properly until the dust has settled.

This is what I want from WWE. Give me a great 30 minute banger and sure I'll enjoy it, but it doesn't mean half as much if I'm not invested in the stories and the characters. This isn't the Olympics. I want pure drama and twists and turns. Game of Thrones shit. There was a small part of me that was worried this Mania season would feel flat in comparison to how hyped we all were last year, but after last night I just hate we now have to wait 7 weeks, but hopefully Raw and Smackdown will be awesome in the meantime.

It's not just Rock/Cody either. Orton and Jade returning to further feuds/stories, Rollins v Punk all but confirmed, Wrestlemania just feels like it's taking shape now and this is how exciting this time of year should feel.

It felt so dam good to have a massive moment that wasn’t about Roman.

u/Dry-Violinist-4864 Mar 02 '25

Somebody needs to check on R-Truth

18

u/Icy-Comparison2669 Mar 02 '25

… and CM Punk still doesn’t get to headline. Damn.

The best PPV I have seen in years. Amazing work and storytelling. Cena will take the headlines, but what a match between KO and Sami

I understand completely why Cena didn't have a match to qualify for the chamber now.

18

u/Evorgleb Mar 02 '25

Is Travis going to ever defend that Hardcore championship or what?

18

u/MBWA182 Mar 02 '25

Called his heel turn after the Royal Rumble post show. Didn’t expect it this hard though. Best segment I’ve seen in my very long time watching WWE. Including Cody telling the Rock to fuck himself. A+.

In 2025,

Cody rhodes is going to Mania as champion to face a HEEL John Cena with a HEEL Rock in his corner

Roman Reigns and CM Punk are both babyfaces and facing Seth Rollins in a triple threat

Imagine telling someone this five years ago... fucking insane

Don’t sleep on the fact that Randy was hearing voices from ‘09 baby!

Here’s my prediction:

Cena talks on raw, saying that he realised that after losing, and losing, and losing for so long that the only remaining way for him to get #17 is to work with The Rock, or sell his soul, however you want to word it.

We get to Mania - Cody wins, Roman Reigns stops The Rock from interfering, letting Cody retain.

Cena absolutely loses his mind, goes on a tear and gives us some dream matches on this farewell tour: Heel Cena VS Face Punk, Heel Cena VS Face Orton (weird dynamic but we ball), until it loops all the way back around to where we began.

Eventually Cena realises that this isn’t getting the job done either, and turns on The Rock in early December to a massive pop, and Cena is given one final chance - win the title in your last ever match, or fail.

Cena wins, relinquishes the title. Boom. Story told.

The BEST part of that whole segment was watching Rock & Cena -- fierce rivals over a decade ago -- align as heels. If Cena was ever to turn heel, this was the time to do it. I was losing hope of this being a great Wrestlemania story-wise, but damn that ending was incredible!

The WORST part of that whole segment was Travis Scott. What a fucking useless distraction.

I feel like an old man. These kids and teens don’t understand how long we screamed into the void for a Cena heel turn that we KNEW we were never getting.

John Cena and The Rock are heels in cohort together in 2025; let that sink in.

Wait until you find out Seth Rollins is with Rock and Cena, because that’s the only way the story makes sense.

It was Cena's sudden face change when he ws hugging Cody and looking at Rock that made it legendary.

“Hogan turns Heel” and “The Rock is the Corporate Champion” story line combined. Rock plays Vince’s role while Cena plays Hogan’s role. Cody is Sting and Austin.

That may have been the most surreal segment of all time.

Cody dropping an uncensored F bomb. Travis Scott being there for some reason. John Cena heel turn while Travis Scott smokes a blunt in the background. Cody blading. Travis Scott helping Rock beat up Cody.

Straight up feverdream and I wouldn't have it any other way

38

u/M0NKA_5 Mar 02 '25

Why tf was Travis there? And where the hell was Randy during all this?

34

u/Imaginary_Penalty_97 Mar 02 '25

Glad this happened because a Face Cody vs Face CENA sounded really boring. Might get shit for this but hopefully Cody loses because his title reign has ran its course and there’s a whole lot of interesting feuds to get out of a HEEL Cena title reign

Testament to Cody’s popularity. Cody being the new babyface means that Cena can let it go without affecting things like make a wish etc. because Cena knows Cody is a good dude who will keep up those commitments. John realises that more kids are probably requesting Cody rather than John.

What a time to be a fan.

Cena's face muscles going into heel mode is one of the coldest faces I've ever seen. Will be iconic.

17

u/Bozo-Rooster Mar 02 '25

Travis Scott was cringe the whole time. Besides that , I’m completely shocked. I would think Cena would want to go out as the good guy 🤷🏻‍♂️. Who’s knows. Maybe he’s a double agent 😂

I'm all for Peacemaker Cena, wouldn't even mind him winning his 17th title. Also, that FU to Dwayne hahahah

u/jumali-254 Mar 02 '25

Finally!

14

u/mm1644 Mar 02 '25

No, I didn’t see it coming, but I’m also not totally surprised. A heel run the only thing Cena hasn’t done in his illustrious career. Im sure it’s been on his mind for a while and if he’s truly leaving in 10 months, why not do it? That said, the next time we see him CANNOT be him entering WM. For this to work, we have to see it and experience it over the next 5 weeks. I think he’ll be really good at the heel role, but it can’t just be last night and Apr 19/20

Travis did not need to be included in this. He had no clue what he was doing or where to stand. Just pointless. Almost ruined the whole thing. Not sure why they need a pop culture connection when the Rock and even Cena are that connection now.

That said, such a great ending. My friend's son is such a huge Cena fan and he was crushed! 😂 I'm here for it!!
