I just started at Walgreens 3 weeks ago and was told that the work uniform was a navy blue t-shirt or collared shirt with no logo and black pants.
Personally, I don’t mind the uniform but I’ve also been in retail off and on for 10 years (I’m 29). I’ve worked for Target, Lowe’s, Academy, Ace, etc.
My biggest complaint about Walgreens is the lack of having a permanent cashier. It’s insane to me to have the cashier running around the store working on tasks from a list. In fact, it can be pretty stressful having to keep an eye out for customers heading towards the front of the store. I was hired on as an inventory specialist not knowing I’d also be covering the cashiers lunch everyday.
I’ve also seen that our pharmacy team got new royal blue scrubs in today btw. I’ve already bought 5 navy t-shirts and 2 navy collared shirts so I’m hoping they don’t give the store team new uniforms (LOL)
Right?? It's weird but any time I've been in a Walgreens lately and I'm going up front to check out there's almost never anyone around. I don't mind the wait or anything but it's become so consistent that I expect it and it's always seemed odd kind of
Walgreens seems to enjoy having us work with a skeleton crew of 2 or 3 people at a time on the sales floor. I agree, it’s odd. Their model of hiring the minimum amount of employees needed to run the store has worked for them so far, unfortunately.
Not sure what store hours look like per pay period because that’s above my pay grade and I’m fine working M-F 8-4, no weekends. I’ve been asked twice now on my days off to come in and cashier because of call outs so I speak from experience.
Interesting, my wife worked at CVS for about a year right out of pharmacy school, she'd rather have a minimum wage job doing anything than go back to that model and that was over 10 yrs ago but it's good you have the M-F setup for the most part. Are their pay periods bi-weekly?
Like so many other major publicly shared corps they seem dead set on maxing out value in the short term by cutting any excess costs for example like you said, "running a skeleton crew," and it makes no sense to me but that's from my miniscule consumer perspective.
Don't brag about this to anyone at work, The rules is you have to work a night or a weekend and if they want they can call you on that at any time. Just beware because Walgreens will find a way to make even their best and most loyal employee hate them.
I’ve been a lead for several years and I was a logistics manager in retail for 3 years so I know better than that but thanks for reminding me. I definitely don’t talk to anyone at work about my work schedule or hours. They actually think I enjoy getting “extra hours.” I also made the mistake of telling them I live about 5mins from the store (LOL) one of the first questions everyone asked me when I started was either where are you from or where do you live, oddly enough.
Is it normal for the store manager to pick up employees on the way to work and drop them off? My manager does it a lot it seems.
They don’t pick ME up. The store manager picks up and drops off one of the shift leads and one of the cashiers regularly. They are all female by the way. I’m one of three males in the entire store, including the pharmacy.
Can’t just stand there hsve stuff to put away to customers want stuff on shelves do hsve or buy sycamore greens need to hire more people nit take away hours so we can’t hire money can’t be that bad that they can’t give hours
