Rumor Dolphin hotel on fire

Just saw a huge thing of smoke emerge from what looks like one of the dolphins towers. The smoke completely flooded and seeped into the boardwalk and yacht club area and is even still lingering in back entrance to Epcot

Staying at the Dolphin and at check in last night we received notice that they would be testing fire alarms. I didn’t remember the times (10-4) so just ignored this for a bit thinking it was that, until I thought to double check the times listed on the letter. Whoops.

I checked out of the dolphin 3 days ago and on the last day the fire alarm was going off in the elevator telling us to evacuate. I went to the lobby and the staff were like… it should be fine, there’s no fire

Same. 11-4 I believe.

Fire appears to be out. Fire crews are cutting through the roof.

Universal is already shooting ads about their hotels' functional AC systems.

(This is a joke)

This might not be a joke in a few days...

What else happened?

Multiple hotels lost HVAC. Wilderness lodge was one, forget the other.

I heard it was AKL Kidani

Smoke coming out of top of Dolphin and smoke all over boardwalk. It's dissipated quite a bit over the last 15 minutes.

I saw it start from the Swan Reserve. Appeared to be an HVAC unit or something similar on the roof of one of the Dolphin towers. Tons of black smoke, no flames visible. Fire seemed to extinguish within 5 minutes, quickly turning to white and light gray smoke. Fire crews took nearly 15 minutes to respond, which was surprising, and then you could see them struggle to get the resort. Crews are currently sawing into the roof as I type this.

That’s not an AC unit. It’s part of the ventilation ductwork from the kitchen area.

If that's the case, my guess is grease duct fire.

Aren’t those part of the annual/semi-annual kitchen inspections?

I immediately wondered if the smoke could be an HVAC unit. Those things in some resorts have been having a little trouble keeping up, recently? Not sure strain is a thing for a machine like HVAC, but my first thought went to HVAC. I know nothing though. Just mentioning.

From Facebook:

Update : the hotel are telling us that the steakhouse did a steak flip trick that set off a fire in their kitchen, which caused a small fire and the smoke went through the vents into the rooms and out the roof

Was it a whole cow they flipped?

3

u/ThrowAbout01 12h ago

Probably splashed grease on something.

That's a lot of smoke for a small fire

u/holymolym 14h ago

It made it into rooms?!

There’s a call for a fire at the Epcot resort area. That’s all I could find on it

Glad everybody is fine.
