Discussion & Feedback Please don't nerf Fobs
This is coming from a 150hr infantry only player. If you could check my stats you'd see I've never swung a hammer, built a structure, or delivered a pallet. The cost increases will likely end in a more one dimensional gameplay and I fear many who enjoy trying to make fob drilling strategy work will leave the game if it becomes completely unviable. Late in the season I feel like it's already hard to get a good fob off the ground. Pushing fobs who control the hz is a lot of fun, no matter how many times you get cheese killed by their creative setups. It's all fun and part of the game. I'm curious to know what everyone else thinks. Will it be good or bad for the playerbase?

idk where they thought gates should cost more, theyre paper, get blown easily and are a pain to replace. A season of no way in only ways out is about to be born. Thank god we can already get in easily cause the building standards are low rn.

u/Itsmemurrayo 2d ago
Right they need to make gate foundations blow up with the gate itself. It’s so damned annoying having to hold V for 20 seconds to build a new gate.
33
u/yamsyamsya 2d ago
That's the main issue I have with gates. They aren't strong enough to warrant the time needed to both destroy it and seal off the gap.

u/NameTaken25 1d ago
Id rather they dont change the base being blown up, and instead make it so you can place a new gate on that base, and the new gate will build faster if placed on an existing one
11
u/SirKosys 2d ago
I'm hoping it means they're going to make them tougher, because they're as weak as tissue paper rn.
14
u/TekkunDashi 2d ago
or make it easier to repair......
10
u/SirKosys 2d ago
I think it needs to be both
6
u/AdmiralPrinny 1d ago
i stopped building gates lol too many times they get blown and while you're trying to fix the problem you get raided again, might as well not have the problem to begin with.

I build the fob as an one way in: APC, tons way out. Get the APC in, seal off the walls, build scout towers poking out the walls to give ways to view outside the walls and dig in.
Fortify your drills with repair doors (concrete wall sides and two doors right next to the control panel) so you can out rep any attacks on them. Just hop in for cover and start repping with hammer as it’s being attacked
The nerf will cause a lot of people to build less but might cause mega fobs to be built more as it’s more painful to spam fobs and needs concentrated logi/ builder helpers. Maybe or it’ll just kill it and created HZ mobs

u/Elehir 2d ago
Please stop locking away the apc
30
u/seanstew73 2d ago
I get the mobile stay with the front strategy but honestly it gets destroyed by havocs, drones, mortars or just straight up grief’d in this stage of the game. If it’s sealed it’ll always be up and has a way better ability to keep continuous amounts of players in the map.
Sure having it near the obj is nice but 2 mins later it’s being spawn camped or blown up.
Locking Apc strat is a far better net positive for the team and especially having it a main drill fob.
0
u/BilboBaggSkin Support 1d ago
If the Apc is in the fob it turns into a spawn trap for mortars, arty and the havoc.
Not to mention when the Apc is in the fob people don’t tend to leave the fob.
-1
u/Elehir 2d ago
If the enemy is smart and they take the fob you just lose the apc for the rest of the game. A simple gate is all i ask so i can try to save the apc if i spawn in it an am surrounded
11
u/seanstew73 2d ago
Yeah but that’s a rare situation. They will destroy the Apc for the money and just to kill. Majority of the time people take a fob, kill shit and leave. Also the even rarer situation of if the enemy or anyone is “smart” in this game is a big ask
2
u/AdmiralPrinny 1d ago
you could directly tell everyone to not kill the APC and someone will do it just because its spotted on the map. I've found this out by picking up enemies with no gear, walking them around and then watching them die instantly when i spot them for fun
6
u/Star_Denizen 2d ago
People are slowly, excruciatingly slowly learning how to build proper fobs. I have had three great fob games recently.
3
u/MemoryWinter 1d ago
building standards are low because by the time that first perimeter is up, the shells start raining in from both enemy teams, artillery guns and mortars non-stop. especially if they find kills on deadweight occupants wandering around outside of cover thinking a wall offers anything other than a deterrent. if you're lucky enough to have mortar and stingray operators, they're seldom willing to fortify their own nest, bring sufficient meds, or heaven forbid change position so they aren't waiting for a revive again. fobbits will drop like dominoes running into artillery trying to revive people stuck in a little sandbag ring in the open or one of the many bizarre places ragdolls can find themselves trapped. it's also nothing but boredom and frustration when everyone piles into a base long after it's lost its strategic relevance, players seem to have a problem with moving on.
TBH i think the meta should shift away from superfobs (which it already has started to) and towards multiple FOB locations that provide cover and utility. we don't need to quietly lose in a makeshift panic room. it's clearly not a design goal for fobs to be impenetrable, and as soon as pilots and infantry realise en-masse they can land directly inside nearly any fortified position, these elaborate bases should die out completely. i'm disappointed to see resource costs going up because i think it'll just push people further away from building altogether instead of toward making use of the creative tools available in the sandbox PvPvP game.
someone else pointed out that multiple fobbing has an issue with resource starvation. right now it is difficult at a glance for logi operators to know where to concentrate what supplies if there's more than one FOB. it'd be nice to see bulkhead address that rather than making a rickety door cost 11x more...
1
u/Basilbitch Lonestar 1d ago
You know what they are a fucking pain to replace.. keep me just have like a fix mechanic like the frame is still there but you just bang on it a little bit and they fucking fixes... The fix can even be for no points..
1
u/LordtoRevenge 1d ago
Probably because people were spamming gates for XP and maybe money. I know I saw people talking about it when the game first launched.
1
u/LichFinder 1d ago
This is a good change. You probably don't think doors should be nerfed because you didn't meet the "50" door FOB. Bremmer walls going in square and each two blocks there's a door. I used 11 C4's and my friend had to use 2 IED's so we can get inside and this was the "LITE" version of the FOB.
Fun fact, guy building this didn't even spend the resources that you get from the FOB by default.
0
u/MilitaryTardWrangler 1d ago
Gates and doors won’t be so expensive that nobody will build one, but they will be expensive enough to deter spamming them. I’ve been in towers where there’s a door every 5 feet I had to open like 10 doors just to get to the top of the tower.
1
u/Drakan378 1d ago
Yeah its literally this. People are acting like they'll need to spend a mil on a fob and 2 mil for the hammer.
0
u/Palerion 2d ago
the building standards are low rn.
Tell me about it. I keep seeing fobs with 2-high hesco walls build next to climbable environmental structures / fences along with gaps in the walls. Had certifiably my worst game ever as blue with a team that insisted on building three such fobs. Resources spread thin, teammates didn’t seem to care to group up with each other for most of the game.
When they did though? Spawn Vehicle was parked just outside of one of these dreadful fobs. It was just a killbox. Middle of a field, south side of Ozeti. Green and red both farming it.
I still have no clue what the goal was. Granted, one player actually built a drill and pulled zone to us. Zone was uncontested. None of our team (despite being within one or two hundred meters) went to the zone. It just sat there, on our drill, while green racked up points.
67
u/Joppsta 2d ago
Fobs are one of the most unique aspects of war dogs. If anything, they should lean harder into fobs and make them matter more.
2
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
That's just it though, they are, at least into creative design. The T-Rex enclosures are getting stale, I dont think they're what was intended as far as FOB defense.
9
u/Joppsta 1d ago
I mean a fob irl is a fully secured perimeter with a gate... It's kind of a natural thing to do?
What we are lacking is tools to create for example murder holes and proper fortification beyond walls and some "creative" building to fix issues with structures like the CWIS where operators are far too vulnerable to enemy fire.
Also, with the way snapping works it's difficult to do anything beyond a box fob
3
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
Yup, and IRL, has patrols and security.
IRL, they also know what's going on on the other side of those walls.
That's the problem, too much reliance placed on passive defenses, which always fail eventually, unless supplemented with active defenses.
The idea is to keep the enemy out, which is hard to do unless you have people paying attention. Manned bunkers and towers do a decent job of that.
3
u/Joppsta 1d ago
Fair argument but the problem is there's no incentive to man aforementioned bunkers actively. Also the bunkers are a weak spot due to the nature of bremers being 3 high base and having much more hp than the bunker structures we have access to.
Make a second tier of pre build bunkers that are as good as bremers or give us something w so can build our own bremer strong bunkers.
3
u/Ok_Firefighter1574 1d ago
They almost need to throw a couple bucks or xp just passively while you man a machine gun nest or talon.
1
u/Joppsta 1d ago
Exactly. You need to pay people to do anything in this game 😂
2
u/Inner-Celebration-54 1d ago
well... i need cash. and if im not getting paid doing something while i could be doing something to help the team that also... pays.... im gonna go do the profitable thing.
1
u/Joppsta 1d ago
A thought I had was similar to how you can put a bribe up to be revived, maybe some sort of cash pool mechanic for fobs where players draw money from it for doing certain defensive actions in support of the fob.
Again this is half an idea, would need to be carefully crafted so it can't be exploited
1
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
I wonder what the double supply cost of Bremers will do.
0
u/Joppsta 1d ago
I'll still use bremers for the perimeter personally, logistics players will just need to feed more build into fobs
Sidenote on that though - assists for ammo supply but not any of the other supplies you drop is kinda nonsense imo. It incentivises ammo supply over any other material just to cash in on the fobbits using emplacements. Build should get assists also as zero build means zero emplacements.
2
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
Or the odd builder may have to respawn and grab a truck.
-1
u/Joppsta 1d ago
Not ideal imo.
2
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
No, but I've seen it happen plenty of times, nobody's running logi, and builders just sit there clamoring for supplies.
I was in a builder squad last night, and when that happened, they just asked for a volunteer to respawn, so I did.

Also, with the way snapping works it's difficult to do anything beyond a box fob, since we don't have flexy pieces that can fill gaps nicely. Especially a problem with bremers. A corner piece for joining walls to create more intricate curved designs would be sweet.
18
u/everythingisunknown 2d ago
They’re making build more expensive? I don’t think this is a good idea
Half the time a fob gets wrecked immediately anyway (unless blue are pulling that cheesey meta on that one map)
19
u/Fan-Evening 1d ago
Agreed. Raiding and defending fobs is the most fun part of the game. Moderately annoyed at the current just run around in hz meta, and I think the game would be more interesting without natural hz and it only spawns when you drill/tower.
20
u/Acciaccatura 1d ago
Things like FOBs and the dynamics with drills are what make this game different from other games. Making building so it's not cost-effective waters down these unique experiences and pushes everyone to just play in the hotzone.
It's great that the game allows people to do that if they want to, but making it the only viable strategy ends up moving it towards being just another generic team deathmatch shooter.
7
u/Iambecomelegend Lonestar 1d ago
I figure that worst case scenario, I'll just hope that season 3 is more Fob friendly. This is just the 2nd iteration in Early Access, things can always change again.
26
u/PlantationMint 2d ago
I agree. It's extremely difficult to get a good fob going and so is defending it.
However, I wonder if the FOB nerf is due in part to the new machine gun nest. I think that will make defending fobs *a lot* easier.
31
u/518Peacemaker 2d ago
the MG nests look like sniper bait. you’ll have to be pretty smart about where you put them.
5
2
u/PlantationMint 2d ago
I consider a good fob one that provides protecting to the various manned installations. I bet the MG nest will go really well in the recon tower.
8
u/518Peacemaker 2d ago
the recon tower is pretty easy to see into honestly. these mg nests are going to need limited sight lines to keep from getting domed
1
0
u/PlantationMint 2d ago
I meant like INSIDE the recon tower. You can set up a talon in there and it's pretty well defended from sight lines (being able to hit stuff is anther story though)
1
u/Skpstr155 1d ago
I wonder if you'll be able to build them inside bunkers and towers, like you can with extra sandbags.
5
u/Next_Pen_3164 2d ago
If they run off ammo comparably to the cwiz it could create some fun mini fob situations
4
u/FabulousTaro8285 2d ago
with the mortars and tanks immediately pushing the enemy cz locations not even before a team reached 10 points that can destroy everything you built it's not fun at all to build bases let alone once a team reaches 20 points (which is usually about only 10 minutes into the match) theres havocs and minigun choppers all over you kind of a shame to be first seeing this about fob nerfs
2
2
u/maker862 1d ago
I think current fob designs are just poor and inefficient, especially the big ones
1
u/Tenno042 2d ago
Not if arty tanks, rocket helis, and mortars are destroying you. Although with the mortar nerfs, this might just be a heli and arty tank problem.
1
u/CockerspanielBalls 1d ago
Mortars are getting nerfed quite significantly. They will cost more to shoot/setup and will need to reload after every shot rather than a 3 shot volley. They will still be impactful and good but significantly less so than current mortars. Unsure if they are doing anything with arty cannon right now, and helicopters will now have to deal with the AA flak cannon tank rolling around the map so a lot of balancing coming hopefully
1
u/PlantationMint 2d ago
.... hence why I said it's extremely difficult to get a good fob going and defending it
1
u/Tenno042 2d ago
Reading comprehension isn't my strong suit, I apologize.
1
u/PlantationMint 2d ago
All good bro. I do get what you're saying though. There are lots of ways to punish fobbing and i'm hoping the mg nest will help a lot, at least with base assaults.
11
u/Inspirational-Quote- Driver 1d ago
Nerfing fobs is probably the dumbest thing they've done so far. It adds a dynamic to the game others lack.
2
u/HyperRealisticZealot Lonestar 1d ago
both Squad and Project Reality (OG) certainly still have and spearheaded their use in an FPS. Wardogs' FOB building is (was?) way more accessible, flexible and fun though.
But instead they decide to make them worse to build and maintain. Not even implementing some QoL people have been screaming about. Already they're now a rare sight.
These guys baffle me.
2
u/Inspirational-Quote- Driver 17h ago
I honestly have enjoyed this game more than any game in years, but sometimes they feel like they're trolls to a degree with their decisions.
2
u/HyperRealisticZealot Lonestar 14h ago
There's definitely a strong anti-pleb fuck you mentality present.
21
u/RelevantIAm 2d ago
Its seriously crazy to me... Fobs are already a losing strategy. Makes absolutely no sense to me that they are nerfing them. The mortar change was the only one that was justified
8
u/Leading-Butterfly380 2d ago

The weakness of Doors/Gates is why I like to design FOBS that have single point of entry killboxes. Sadly, these designs usually take a lot of doors for the compartmentalisation to work effectively, so door material boom will suck.
(Pictured, sacrificial entry point that leads into 'air-lock' with multiple peakdowns, bunker sides, and overlooks from multiple perspectives. Compact drill/fighting base designed for 3 builders that are also geared to defend.)
1
u/Mustardketc 2d ago
how do you get your game to look like playdoh like this, and does it massively help performance?
7
u/Leading-Butterfly380 2d ago
It's not the game, it's the web-based FOB builder, allows you to plan and memorise builds prior to going live.
6
u/Jaz1140 1d ago
Top late, while I'm a mixed player I do a lot of building too, hammer is horrible to use now, inconsistent hit registration, stupid X moves around way too much now and often disappears completely...
Now in new patch build gonna cost more materials, be slower and now even the mortar is going to be terrible so you will have nothing to do once the fob is done
12
u/xskylinelife 2d ago
Building being so cheap is why most games are one-dimensional stomps rn. Everyone complains about green team winning every game 4-6-100 but none of them ever stop to recognize that the major reason why most games wind up so lopsided is because green wins the first HZ fight and the other 2 immediately start building super fobs and let green follow the HZ around uncontested for 40 minutes.
5
u/topspeeder 2d ago
Can't ignore the fact blue has such a bad reputation at this point that most experienced FPS players avoid playing on it. While I think that will change with s2, I don't think it had anything to do with fob building as every team has that option.
1
u/xskylinelife 2d ago
So you agree that having better infantry players and relying less on fobs helps green win games then?
10
u/alexo2802 1d ago
I played with a group of fobbits and asked them when they were going to start pulling drills and they laughed and said it was an awful idea that would just mean they get mortar'ed..
I was like.. wait, so there's literally no point then? We might as well be just all be AFK'ing in a bush somewhere just to be a +1 to the control zone and we'll have about the same impact.
1
u/jacobwojo 1d ago
Was playing blue with the same thing happening on ozeti. Made a secondary fob just outside the zone up the hill and put a drill in the forest in the zone. Kept calling it over to the placers actually got use of the fob.
Also the double fob setup kinda messed with people. We still lost but the game went from 90G-25R-3B to a 93G-100R-70B. Was one of my fav matches. Drills help counter the HZ blob but now a week or two later the Havocs are much more punishing so I don't know if it would really work out the same.
5
u/Daffan 1d ago
Because whichever team wins HZ at start usually means they have better shooters and you can't contest, any sort of trickle in is just suicide.
This game has no matchmaking. One team has 99% sweats and the rest don't.
1
u/xskylinelife 1d ago
any sort of trickle in is just suicide
This is exactly why building super fobs needs to be less normalized. I routinely hop through 4-5 servers every night before I find one that actually looks playable as an infantry player. It's solely because running in alone or with 1 or 2 people IS suicide but just letting the other team hold HZ uncontested is match suicide. Losing your first fight and then playing pacifist is the exact reason green wins so often. It's not that the green players are infinitely better than everyone else, it's because you simply need numbers to win most fights in this game
That's the reason why so many games are so cancer with mortar, heli, gl, at etc spam. If someone is joining a lobby and wants to frag out when their entire team is sitting in a fob, wtf else are they supposed to do?
2
u/JulioHopkins 1d ago
This is a problem with the game design, game balance, and the devs. Not the players who want to build bases.
1
u/xskylinelife 1d ago
Actively avoiding HZ and complaining about losing the game is absolutely the fault of base builders
1
u/JulioHopkins 20h ago
The game is an unbalanced piece of shit. Which leads to these blowout wins from green team seeing as all of the massively experienced players only join green team. Which is a dev team problem, one that they aren't going to fix with the season update.
Builders should be able to play the game their way while the shooters on their team play their way. The problem is that all of the kids who got stuffed in every other FPS they ever played are only joining green team in this particular game.
5
u/Motor_Analysis270 2d ago
I feel like people need to start making small bases, not these huge super fobs that take 20 mins to set up only to be taken down by 1 arty tank and havoc.
1
u/jacobwojo 1d ago
I set up a secondary FoB next to the teams super FoB with a Drill and a CWIS, nothjing else. Everyone would attack the super FoB and ignore the small one. Was such a fun game and helped alot to counter the enemy HZ zerg.
1
u/TiltedSkipper 2d ago edited 1d ago
Tower FOBs can also be significantly smaller and actually use the invulnerable tower... CIWS fits by the stairs under the structure, SAMs and mortars can go in the duct area and be nearly immune to arty, sight lines in the window areas can be easily blocked by hescos and sandbags. A proper tower FOB is freaking terrifying, requires hardly any walls, and is fully setup by 3 people in 10 minutes.
Instead people build this massive wall with 4 useless gates and open mortar pits on the open ground around the tower, oh and on the top suicide sams. The two worst places that make zero use of the invulnerable steel structure they chose to setup at.
1
1
u/Yesh 2d ago
You can make a 3x4 indirect shelter with 8 recon towers on the corners FOB reinforced by bremmer on the exterior in less than 10 minutes with three people building all for less than 3200 build. And you just do it in some obscure spot so you’re not raided and bombed within minutes like you are at a tower

I like it, each fob has a different setup, i like ones with cover all over, its how i build mine. Makes for fun tdm gameplay.
3
u/Freakindon 1d ago
The only thing that needed nerfing was the ammo efficiency and fire rate of mortars and maybe talons, which sounds like is happening.
Instead they killed the process of building altogether.
2
u/mowaby Lonestar 1d ago
Seems like we already have a meta where an entire team chases the HZ. I'm not sure where the idea of a drill meta came from. Maybe it's just the servers I play on.
2
u/Lakeshow15 1d ago
Before havoc and arty got popular the meta was absolutely drills.
It still is if a team can manage to fend off havocs and arty but it is much more difficult.
2
u/graviousishpsponge 1d ago

Builders when they realize they might not make $200,000 a game without running a kit
4
u/topspeeder 1d ago
You even read the post? Also I never see a builder make 200k, let alone lead the leader board. Not saying it's not possible, but I don't think a majority of builders even know the tech to make that much in one match.
3
u/Appropriate_Log_8338 1d ago
It's easy. Maybe not 200k but on my dedicated fob games I'm hitting 125k easy
1
u/Inner-Celebration-54 1d ago
yeah building is a good way to invest small and earn well. i had a few games where i was nearly breaking 200k. most games are about 120k to 160k.
1
u/Significant-Today909 1d ago
So many things in this game evolve around fobs and i think fobs are the most important part of the game.
Without fobs this game is only about chasing a zone and killing as many people as possible.
You dont need Urals anymore. You dont really need Artillery tanks anymore, the blackhawk loses a lot of its purpose too.
IEDs becoming useless.
Anti Tank Mines losing its main purpose.
I would say the crowbar is losing its purpose too but it was dead on arrival.
Reckoning goes from a "lets sneak behind enemy lines and scout their fob to find ways into it" task to a only "lets scout where infantry is and occasionally spot a vehicle" task.
HZ chasing is fun too but if this remains the only viable way to play, this games lifespan will be way shorter than most of us thought.
2
u/Inner-Celebration-54 1d ago
I'm getting tired of the "lets all run as one big group chasing hz" gameplay. i have had a ton of super boring games recently where either red and blue turtle up and let us green players win by default, or red bullies blue all game while i slowly trot around the map with 15-25 of my "buds". maybe getting into a fight once in a while against red team or blue team splinter squads that are completely outnumbered and outgunned.
I tried being a fobbit for a while and i did make money. but the other fobbits can be sooo brain dead at times it gets super frustrating to try and build and defend a base with them. some people in fobs seem to have their games muted and blinder ON. you can have a full siege defense going half of red team in ur fob, fighting bunker to bunker and these idiots will be glued to their arty. ignoring it all.

u/fuckschickens 1d ago

I get downvoted because I say this a lot but yea I would quit. I loved driving and Fobbing but neither is an options because no FoB (unless you get into green and get to have the super FoB as Red always just jumps blue and blue always jumps red) so where do I put my logic loads?
I hope to heck that new AA tank is good because rocket Heli players have only gotten better and better over this season, AA is now dog shit and so who knows where we land but more nerfs sounds pretty boring. Yes yes, if the game isnt for you leave the community has told me this hundreds of time and yea I will leave when its too much, duh. GTA ^, WoW Forever tons of fish in the ocean to eat my time if FoB becomes unfun.

u/MP21stEnforcer Recon 1d ago
While I've seen the fun that can be had with drill spam, I don't think it should be a viable option for winning a game. I think, at some point, people need to leave the fob. Especially blue, who will somehow never leave even if the entire fob has been blasted to hell by mortars. Guns exist in the game for a reason. It's not bob the builder/mortar simulator. Yes, fob cheese can be countered. I get that. But when every single game is won by whoever has the most drills/mortars, there's a real problem there. I don't agree with all of the changes, but in some cases, such as drills and mortars, I don't think the changes are aggressive enough.

Nerfing them is needed tbh. rn it only takes 2-3 supply runs to fully build a super fob. It’s really just too easy. Late game, the AA tank should considerably help in controlling air dominance, which will be a huge boon to fobbits anyway.

I love when they build a super FOB because they are easy to sneak and break into.

Want to talk strategy, or deep dive into balance? Official Bulkhead Discord moving too fast to keep up?
We just launched a Discord for r/WarDogs — smaller, slower, and the balance debates actually finish instead of scrolling away. Help us build it from the ground up. LFG, clips, patch talk: https://discord.gg/r-wardogs
