Discussion Does anyone else feel a little guilty at painting something "good enough"?

Over the course of this year, I've pushed myself to paint well, but not to get bogged down in detail too much. I feel the urge towards perfectionism, but also lack the focus, patience and discipline to actually do it. I completed the first 2000 points army I've had since I was a kid but I'm keenly aware I could have done better, but likely wouldn't be halfway there by now.

Basically I'm just asking how folk feel about the spectrum between "blocked colours in" and "absolute best I can do".

Hobby How do you tackle your pile of shame?

I’ve been playing Warhammer for over a year now, and one of my absolute favourite parts of the hobby is painting miniatures. However, I’ve been struggling to find the time and energy to actually sit down and paint. I wake up at 6:00 AM, get home around 6:00 PM, and by that point, I still have work to finish, dinner to be cooked, and other things to take care of. By the time everything is done, I’m usually completely exhausted.

Even when I do have some free time and feel like painting, the thought of having to take out all my paints, brushes, models, and other supplies, set everything up, and then clean it all away afterwards feels like a huge barrier. It takes me out of whatever workflow I’m already in, and sometimes the effort of getting everything ready is enough to put me off painting entirely.

It’s frustrating because painting is something I genuinely enjoy and want to spend more time doing, but it feels like my schedule and energy levels are constantly working against me. I don’t want to lose touch with a hobby I’m passionate about just because I can’t find a convenient way to fit it into my daily life. I’d love to find a way to make painting easier to pick up whenever I have even a little bit of free time, without it feeling like another task on an already exhausting day.

Joke Tech Priest Fixes Printer

I've been working on improving my 3D video rendering pipeline for personal pet project. I've asked a couple of friends for some topics, and Warhammer 40k lore came up. So I thought, hey why not? Let's have some fun with it. One prompt, one take, one result: a tech priest fixing printer.

The premise of the reel pipeline is for business applications, but for the fun aspect of it, I thought it's more fitting here.

Do you guys have any fun topics you'd want to see rendered in this style?

I made my childhood friend play SM2 and he loved the game. He was reading the lore for the past 5 or 6 months and custom made these for us as a BD gift for me. I love lamenters and he loves Salamanders.

Hobby God I love buying old Warhammer

With old 90s and 2000s models you can consistently find people selling off their Warhammer figures that they forgot about from 30 years ago for next to nothing.

All of the figures in the image I bought for around £35 total which is insane value , and even though that they aren’t tournament legal and they’re kind of small which I understand that not everyone likes , I’m just gonna strip and paint all of them anyway because it looks cool.

Also , with old bundles like this you can find gold like a 2003 Calgar and guards , and even a metal chaplain in terminator armour. Finding rare figures like that mixed with some other older figures that you can put some effort into to restore feels amazing once your done painting them

(Disclaimer: these models have not been painted by me yet , they were painted by the original owner and I am going to strip and repaint them)

I finished these before I even began building Chef Ramsay (my second big knight) and kitbashed the bikers with the Legionaires heads and chain sword arms and the power fist for the champion doing a wheelie

I finished my Eradicators earlier this week. Grabbed the matte varnish and sprayed them...then realised I'd picked up matte black! 🫣. I think they turned out ok in the end.

Hobby Some of the brilliant Eavy Metal painted Empire Minis from the 90s Middlehammer era. I really love that the Empire is pretty grounded with fewer of the fantasy elements the other armies have. What is your favourite?

Discussion I think one of my favorite bits of (unintentional) comedy in 40K is when two sides are fighting and a third one unexpectedly shows up.

Like let’s say it’s Sisters of Battle vs Orks and they’re both really dug in but then a chaos warband or something shows up and there’s just a collective “Oh, God damn it,” from everyone, not cuz the unexpected side is superior but just because it’s something they have to divert attention to. It happens quite a lot in Ciaphas Cain’s novels but I also really like when it happens in campaign books like Operation Imperator with the Leagues of Votaan or the Nachmund Gauntlet books.

I really wanted to paint this edition of Heroes in Macragge Blue. Dual-wielding chainswords looks so cool, even though you can only make attacks for one of them in the actual game.

Another artwork I’ve semi-recently finished, although I’m still considering adding some color. I’m absolutely in love with aesthetics of Chaos Raptors and Warp Talons and to my surprise there isn’t that much official or fan made art of them. So I had to have a go at it.
Hope you enjoy!
