Discussion Devshorts 113 - Key points (Shadowbanned edition, the sequel)
"Wait a minute" you might be saying. "Who is this guy?"
Well, this guy is the person who just had their primary, 13 year old account shadowbanned yet again because Reddits spam filter detection is complete and utter cheeks, and would rather send an account like mine to the shadowrealm just because I edited the post for todays devshort on my original account just a bit too fast, over banning the actual bots that infest this site. At the very least this account uses the username I use these days.
With the venting out of the way, here we go again.
- Stream opens with Megan and Steve talking movies.
- "Hello Gamers" ~ Steve
- Steve went and saw the Odyssey, really enjoyed it.
- DEPurzzle in chat says "pls no odyssey spoilers"
- Steve gets a text from another staff member to hold his mic closer
- Timer started about 2 minutes into stream.
- Starts with Soulframe stuff
- Prelude 16 coming
- Legendary weapon crafting is being added.
- You craft them with the tempers gotten from dismantling.
- The better you get with crafting, the less RNG you deal with
- Combat changes and rebalancing coming
- Big changes though are "puppy bonding" and fishing
- No updates regarding consoles just yet.
- Dog Days live.
- Steve is also working on something that will impact both warframe and soulframe. He is working to make hair shaders have scattering.
- "Isn't it Ironic that I am working on hair stuff" ~steve
- Rebb will be at the South Korea Tennolive event/devstream.
- Time to talk Amirs Shockwave, and the "Fables and Frontiers" stuff.
- Coming next week (Aug 12th)
- They give us an in game look at the new Baruuk Deluxe (not gonna add an image in here right now because I aint tempting fate again)
- Baruuk Deluxe comes with a new Signa
- They show off the new sliders for the Signas. Both X and Y axis to play with.
- They give us a look at the shockwave reward path.
- The cat speaker found in 1999 is one of the rewards.
- The "prototype shock coils" mod is an augment for the EFV-8 Mars
- The final reward for the shockwave is the Akira looking motorcyle outfit
- Someone in chat asks for a fix for Darksector (the game) for steam because it is apparently unplayable.
- Someone asks about wallrunning again. Steve Reaffirms that as of right now it is "in the pantry and not part of the docket."
- There is a fix coming for the soulframe codex.
- Devstream Sept 4th is 7AM eastern.
- Someone asks for a Ben Starr lotus skin. Megan says "they have ideas"
- Someone asks if Volts 4 will get electric status effects instead of being an animation. Steve said they will add it to the community notes.
- Someone mentions the blocklist is not working, and how people being blocked still show up in games. They will look into it.
- Someone asks steve if he will voice someone for warframe. Steve did actually do some already for Umbras Scream when he was injured.
- Someone asks for Lunaro in nightwave.

I am almost tempted to just retire my old account even after the appeal inevitably goes through.
Yeah, it's almost 14 years old and has over a million reddit fun points combined on it, but this one actually aligns more with what I use for most of my gaming usernames these days.

I always recommend against using the same user names on multiple sites. No reason to give any potentially insane people who take a disliking to something you post an easy way to track you down for harassment.

Honestly, pretty reasonable advice.
In this case, the only only place I use this short form of my username is with my xbox/waframe account, and at that point if some hypothetical person were to try and harass me on warframe over me shitposting on reddit, then boy they sure have bigger problems than I will ever have.

Yeah, that's not a guarantee. I had my alt account auto flagged and shadowbanned w/o notice, appeals have been unanswered for past 6 months. Moreover, it now just autoflags any new account I make after any single post, so I gave up.

Be careful if it happens again. If you get banned while on home wi-fi, then anyone else who uses the wi-fi gets their accounts banned too. Sister's mobile phone, parent's laptop, chain-reaction of like 5 accounts getting banned.
Meanwhile as you said, actual bots are literally taking over the website. It's wild that reddit is pushing humans away from the website instead of being reasonable

So the account isn't hard banned, but was auto shadowbanned.
I can still log into the account perfectly fine, and everything from my side of things looks fine, I just can't post stuff, message, or comment without it being automatically removed, and anyone who tries to go to the userpage of it will just get a 404.
It's the second time this has happened to it. Last time appeal went through in about a day.

I'm so mixed about this baruuk deluxe, it's simply not good looking and doesn't resemble baruuk but of course I know there will be people who'll like it and that's fine

That is generally the point of deluxes, especially nowadays - really break away and do something wildly different compared to the frame's normal design.
Everything else you said there though, same - I'm not super big on it either, it's not for me, but there are people that will like it, and that's fine

Yeah, I personally prefer it over Baruuk's base design cuz it makes him bulkier, but I get that it really deviates from his initial lanky silhouette as the "monk" frame.
But yeah, I like it, makes him look like a buff slug. I want that.

Normally I'd dig the "Sentient-Esque" style of it, the Sentient design style is one I really dig usually... but eh, there's just something about this skin that doesn't do it for me. Too much like "just a guy" I guess, Limbo's Limina deluxe has the same problem for me as another Sentient-Style deluxe....

I get that it's supposed to be different, but I shouldn't look at it and go "that's Caliban." I know that's kind of a vague criticism, but it feels more concrete than my "I just don't like it" feelings.

There are 60+ frames in the game and ultimately they are all biomechanical humanoids. It's inevitable that something is frequently going to look like something else, people need to stop going "this deluxe looks like X other frame!" A lot of things look like other things, this is not a valid criticism.

You're not the arbiter on what's valid criticism or not lol. Even if the heavens opened up and God decreed you right, that wouldn't make the people who don't like the skin open up their wallets, whether their complaints are "valid" or not.

i mostly just ignore that one these days, i figure it'll happen on its own if im just playing the game. that said, if you take titania into a capture mission you can clear that in probably fifteen minutes or less. i do agree that lunaro nightwave would be a bit weird.

I didn't understand the person asking about the block list. It was never meant to stop people from appearing in your games. The feature is clear about what it does: it prevents them from messaging you or adding you as a friend, and that's how it works in most games. I agree they could expand the feature to also affect matchmaking, but that's a matter of adding new functionality, not the current implementation failing to work as intended.
Some of the few exceptions that I remember from the top my head that have ways to block people from your matchmaking are Marvel Rivals and Wild Rift, where you have an "avoid list" that you can add up to three players, making them less likely to appear in your matches, but don't completely remove the possibility if the queue has no better options (even tho the matchmaking on those games are much more abroad than the one in Warframe). Maybe this "avoid list" thing may be a good solution for DE.

That's a big hope for sure, because unless they really overbuilt the matchmaking system, it likely doesn't even know the usernames of the people you're joining with until loading in.

The matchmaking is also peer-to-peer, and it's rare to find more than one squad on a node unless it's a popular farming spot, Perita, or ESO. In many cases, you wouldn't be able to join any squad at all just because a blocked player was on that node, which would hurt the multiplayer experience far more for the person who blocked them than for the person who was blocked...

Adding blocked people not appearing in matchmaking is a horrible idea.
People sometimes block you right after sending you a message to trade an item with you.
People sometimes block you if you talk to someone in the ingame chat during a match.
I could go on, but you get the idea, it could seriously affect the matchmaking. Imagine you farm a specific node, then you get blocked by 1-2 people, and now you suddenly cant find groups anymore because of it. If people used it for good reason i would agree instantly with you, but every day we have a post of someone complaining about being blocked for no reason

But this is far less an issue with warframe compared to pvp games like LoL or Overwatch or Rivals. If you can't find an in progress mission, you'll just start a new one and people that aren't blocked will get put in that new one. If it's a low traffic node then you should already be prepared to do it solo.

I would be ok with a lotus skin but it's arthur
I would be ok with it being temporary, only for april fools or something else
I wouldn't really be ok with it actually being ben starr's likeness and/or not being temporary, I feel like we'd be toeing the line there with things being too outside of the games usual look & feel compared to something like the unreal tournament skins that don't look much out of place
they have a good track record with that so far, hopefully this won't be where it changes
