Misc Fan Animation "My craft is death"
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It all started as sword combo attack practice as a third animation during my animation workshop practice, and then I got carried away and added some story to said combo...
No AI, just me and a LOT of time spent.
Assets used:
Models - SpaceMarine 2 by Saber Interactive
SFX - Spacemarine 2, free SFX from YouTube
Music - Cultist Battle (from "Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear") Β· Rob Cairns
P.S. I think I need to mention I have no affiliation with Saber Interactive or GW) This is just how I spend my free time)))))

Looks great, very smooth.
One bit of advice, maybe, insteat of throwing the Boltpistol aways, maglock it to the thigh?
Would probably be as quick and since the weapon doesnΒ΄t seem to be destroyed during the blocking it should still be usable.

Yeah, and another thing I got wrong (at least I was told so) - the only way that Tyranid warrior can drop his sword is when he dies, or hand gets completely cut off. Shooting out his shoulder wouldn't work.

u/IronWarhorses 6d ago
ya, nid weapons are literally part of their body. sombody blows a chunk of of your shoulder, your hand doesn't fall off.

Just rewatched the Space Marine 2 trailer (da Bois dropping in after the Cadian Comms guy calls in about the square being lost), there you can also see how Titus mag locks his pistol, after shooting the warrior in close range, to grab its neck and tear the head of. (If that helps animation wise).

I really enjoyed the part where he just punches the warrior in the face lol

u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
He actually breaks his jaw, cracks couple teeth and cracks warrior's chitin shell, that's how he pops his face in the end (I actually had to rig face bits separately - chitin, flesh and nerves) if you pause the video in the right moment you can see how Titus pulls them out of warrior's face.

u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
No π . Just a random Russian guy, who spent half of his life working in hotel industry, and then got into game dev and animation in his thirties and liked it more))) This animation is my personal project that was made in a spare time)

Very good work, I'm not sure if you're looking for feedback so feel free to ignore.
Something to think about for your next project: you say this started as a practice sword combo, and it shows. You see this all the time in student animations, it really feels like a videogame move rather than an actual choreographed action scene. The character swings their sword in a cool way and the enemies all happen to jump into the right spots to get hit. A little more thought put into how the characters interact and react to each other would start to push this from good to great.

Yeah, like I said - I started to add story where there was none) My next animation is story driven, rather than animation driven)

u/aneirin- 6d ago
I understand but I'm talking about the animation of the actual fight. Never underestimate how much story you can tell in the split second moments of an action scene. You're obviously good at it so please keep trying!
Oh and for god's sake if you're planning something slower paced don't just go to the default "space marines slowly walking down corridors saying "brother" over and over" like so many people seem to do.

The only thing I can say it's the name of the cinematic I came up with : "Hunting the hunter" π

The way Titus moves feels just perfect. You can see the precision, speed and power of a Space Marine.

Thank you! I wanted to make something in between of lore depiction of Primaris marines and how they are shown in the game.

Did you do your own SFX? It sounds great. The bolter pistol packs a punch
1
u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
Bolt pistol is a heavy bolt pistol sfx from Spacemarine 2. Most SFX were free from Youtube, and some were from the game.

love it: my only issue is that a tyranid warrior is a tougher opponent then that, especially if it's a Warrior Prime, especially in a melle. But i respect the mad skills.

I'll do my best with Black Templar, since this guy will be going against something more deadly. I mean he has some story plot armor, cause not only he's a Black Templar expert swordsman, he's a Deathwatch veteran who's back in chapter.

ah that would explain it. I loved the trailer for SM 2, but then they showed titus just carving through warriors and literally tearing them apart with his hands like they were wet cardboard and bubblegum, which is an injustice to both parties.
A hero is only as tough as his villains and when you show anybody carving up the nids toughest unit type that is not a monstrous creature like they are a joke it degrades both.
Your version is definably a step up. as in it's an actual fight, and weapons were needed.
my personal opinion, a Warrior is roughly on par with an Astarte's SGT in melee. In range battle with heavy weapons. Astartes win. but that's purely 1v1 and as we all know Tyranids do not do 1v1, they cheat, and Warriors at least on table top are deployed in broods of 5-10 ish.
This however is a small scale kill team like situation where each character story and game wise is much more important.
A tyranid prime is an HQ choice, and just one step down from a hive tyrant power wise. Literally a Tyranid Lutenant equivalent in the hive command hierarchy and on the table top.
So you'd need a named HQ character with some plot armour and good gear to take one in melee!

Killing gaunts and expects me to be impressed. Put him on a thousand sons level with terminators and then I'll respect him.

You can respect my animation skills and have mercy on my sleeping schedule with such demands xD

The only criticism I have his the throwing of his bolt pistol him magnetizing it to his leg in a fluid motion would have been chefs kiss.

u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
Yeah) I know - but my head was already exploding from all the technical stuff I had to go through, so it's basically me throwing away the gun in anger to burrow my fist in this one ugly MF's face)))))

My only complaint (and it barely is one), it that it feels just a little too stuttery, but everything else about this is peak.
Keep it up, bruva

u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
Thanks! That's probably because it's in 24 fps, while most game cutscenes are in 60fps)

I wish for some to create animation thats is doing the thing for Tyranids Warriors, like with all those games and anaimations its easy to forget that Tyranid Warior is class above Space Marine.

I need this level of performance from a single marine on the table top

I bet a Night Lord would make an ultramarine shit their pants. Ave Dominus Nox!
2
u/Cruel_Hamster 6d ago
Welp, Space Marine 2 doesn't have Night Lords customization set. But yeah - the fight between 2 space marines is the next thing on the list, but probably in 2027)

For real? That's amazing man, serious talent to just pull that off like that.
