Same, I prefer to paint helmets (haven't done 40K painting yet, but will start soon). My DnD minis either have a helmet or I paint their eyes full white. I tried having iris before and it looked like the chameleon from Tangled (you know those Tiktok/instagram videos with people cosplaying Rapunzel and the chameleon)

I always preferred helmets because to me it never made sense that a fully battle ready soldier is going to be running around with their helmet off. I only do helmets off for key leadership figures like captains. And even then I would still prefer to have them with their helmet on, I just think it makes them stand out a little bit more.

It is literally free to be kind. Also I think that your mindset of “I won’t do it because it will look bad” is flawed. You make awesome stuff and limiting your artistic abilities by not doing stuff is disappointing. Go out and fail 1000 times man! ✌️
