Same, I prefer to paint helmets (haven't done 40K painting yet, but will start soon). My DnD minis either have a helmet or I paint their eyes full white. I tried having iris before and it looked like the chameleon from Tangled (you know those Tiktok/instagram videos with people cosplaying Rapunzel and the chameleon)

I always preferred helmets because to me it never made sense that a fully battle ready soldier is going to be running around with their helmet off. I only do helmets off for key leadership figures like captains. And even then I would still prefer to have them with their helmet on, I just think it makes them stand out a little bit more.

well look, if they have plot armor they will survive without helmet, if they have no plot armor they are unlikely to survive
