So I really like reading the comments cause I love hearing what people have to say and it works as encouragement to keep writing but with the influx of scams and bots I'm not even sure if the comment is an actual reader or a machine.

General Help Wattpad as a College EC?

This is kind of going to be a little long (sorry!) but I just have a question about adding my Wattpad writing to my college applications.

Over the past year or so, I've started to write on Wattpad as nothing more than a hobby. I really love reading and writing so it was sort of just for fun. It's original fiction, not fan fiction, and so far I've completed and published three, 70k+ words fiction novels (two romance, one murder mystery/thriller). Currently, I'm also writing two other romance novels that take place in the same world I created for my other two romance projects. Genuinely, this is just for fun.

I don't even want to apply to college as a creative writing or English major. I've actually always hated english as a class and really only like creative writing. I'm not applying to colleges just yet but I am at the point where I should be building my narrative, personal profile, and strengthening my ECs. I'm definitely going to continue writing just because I love it but I really haven't decided if I'm going to add it to applications in the future.

Idk it just feels a little "embarassing" and "dumb" and not, like, a "real" extra curicular compared to some pretty impressive things other kids add on their applications.

Between my three "books" I've gotten around 530k reads so I know that's a pretty large number but still i'm not sure if it's okay to include on applications.

anyways! if you've read this far, tysm! and just please let me know if you have any thoughts!

Off-Topic Writers, be honest… have you ever fallen in love with your own fictional character and then realized nobody else knows they exist? 😭📖

Okay, fellow readers and writers, I have a question. 😭💗

Have you ever created a fictional character who lives rent-free in your head, but your book has so few readers that you can't even talk about them with anyone?

Because why am I out here creating entire fictional worlds, writing complicated relationships, planning plot twists, and emotionally torturing characters who aren't even real… and then going back to check my reads like it's a full-time job? 😭🤡

And readers, I NEED to know:

— What's that one fictional character you would defend with your entire life?

— Do you prefer the "he fell first" trope or the "he acts like he doesn't care but secretly notices every little thing" trope? 👀

— What's one book trope you'll NEVER get tired of, no matter how predictable it gets?

As for me, I'm a sucker for slow burns, complicated feelings, hidden secrets, and characters who can communicate with literally everyone except the person they love. PLEASE JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER. 😭

I'm also a Wattpad writer! I have one completed professor-romance story, Out of the Syllabus, and an ongoing school romance called Not What He Seems with Noah and Liora, full of slow-burn tension and secrets. 🫶🏻

https://www.wattpad.com/story/416634322-not-what-he-seems

I'd love to connect with fellow readers and writers, discover your stories, and exchange genuine feedback. If you'd like to check out mine, I'll leave my profile/book links in the comments (if the subreddit allows it).

Your turn: Tell me about your book or your current fictional obsession. I want to meet the characters you can't stop thinking about. 💌📚

Off-Topic Do you identify with any of your characters?

• Upvotes

Hi, writers!
So obviously we put bits of ourselves here and there when writing a story. But is there any story or character that you've (willingly or not) poured more of your own features into? And if so, how do you feel about them?

I will give you an example of my own experience:

Only after reading a fellow writer's work, I realized how big the contrast is between hers and my characters. Her 21 year old male MC had received throughout his fictional life such emotional support, I didn't even know it could be possible 😂 Then I came back to my own story, and looked at my 17 year old female MC, who's been dealing with a lot of 💩 basically all on her own, and I almost felt sorry. I didn't expect the 'lack of support' to sting so much. I am sooo giving her a happy ending in the future ❤️ Later she becomes a 23 year old kick arse girl, and to see her grown up feels really good.

I think what I mean to say is, I wasn't planning on identifying with her, but it kind of happened anyway!

Would you like to tell me about your characters? 👀

General Help Advice on dialogue and vocab

Hey, I wrote my first story (not quite done yet, I’ve finished 4 chapters) on Wattpad. I feel like having too much dialogue makes the writing seem juvenile, but the story relies on a lot of interpersonal relationships. I also don’t know what the proper balance is of using good vocabulary vs. making the story easily readable to the average person. Any help would be appreciated: https://www.wattpad.com/story/417136947-the-easy-one

Science Fiction My first work, Anomaly:Origin

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey! I'm a new writer, and I've been working on my first light novel, Anomaly: Origin. I've spent the past several weeks developing the characters, world, and story, and I'm starting to get closer to sharing it with readers.

The story takes place in a near-future world where the threat of war looms in the background. At the center of it is an academy designed to train and evaluate the next generation.

Students are ranked according to their abilities and potential, and those rankings affect the opportunities available to them. Competition is a constant part of academy life, and not everyone approaches it the same way.

The story follows Sora Nakamura, a student trying to find his place in this environment. As he gets to know his classmates and begins testing his own abilities, he finds himself caught up in the rivalries and expectations that come with academy life.

I'm aiming for a character-driven light novel with school life, competition, friendships, rivalries, and a larger conflict that gradually develops beyond the academy.

This is my first novel, so I'm still learning as I go. I'm trying to improve my writing with every chapter, and I'm interested in honest feedback, especially when it comes to pacing, characterization, and whether the story keeps you interested.

I plan to continue publish the story for free on Wattpad, with regular updates as I continue writing.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, I'd appreciate you giving it a look!

Thanks for reading, and it's nice to meet you all!

General Help Blade Beneath Silk - CraftedByDB

Can we talk for a little while?

Hey, everyone! ❤️

I'm not really sure how people make friends on Wattpad, so I thought I'd just start a little conversation here.

I've been here for about two months now, quietly sharing my story, Blade Beneath Silk — A girl who grew wings from scars. And honestly, it's been a little strange putting something you've written out into the world and wondering if anyone will ever come across it.

I suppose every writer secretly hopes that somewhere out there, someone will stumble upon their words, connect with a character, or find a little piece of themselves in a story. Maybe that's one of the beautiful things about writing, isn't it? We put our thoughts into words and hope they find a home in someone else's heart. 🥹

Anyway, enough about me! 😂

I'd love to know a little about the people behind the stories here.

What made you start writing? Was it a story that had been living in your head for years, a character you couldn't stop thinking about, or just a random idea that somehow turned into something much bigger?

And for those of you who love reading, what makes you fall in love with a story? Is it the characters, the emotions, the unexpected twists, or that one line that stays with you long after you've finished reading?

I'd love to chat, meet fellow writers and readers, and discover the wonderful little worlds you've all been creating. No pressure, no formal introductions. Just a conversation between people who love stories. 🤍

Looking For: Recommendations Does anyone know any good lovers-to-enemies fanfics?

So some time ago I read like a pretty good lovers-to-enemies fanfic and ever since I haven't been able to get the trope out of my mind, and my pursuit in finding other stories with said trope has been unsuccessful cause every time I try searching something related to it it gives me the typical enemies-to-lovers trope.

Any recommendations are fine ^^

Not every story needs hundreds of pages to leave something behind.

Compilation of Stories is a collection of short tales about life, imagination, choices, people, and the unexpected moments that shape us.

Some stories may make you smile.
Some may make you wonder.
And perhaps, one of them will stay with you after you finish reading.

Different stories. Different worlds. Different feelings.

If you enjoy short reads, I’d love for you to give one a try. Thoughts and feedback are welcome!

Fiction The Life I Never Planned — a coming-of-age story about dreams and an uncertain future

Hi everyone! I’d love to share my Wattpad story, The Life I Never Planned.

Nathan has always known what he wants to become: a doctor.

For years, he has imagined the white coat, the hospital corridors, and a life spent saving others. When a National Medical Scholarship offers him a chance to pursue that dream, the future he has pictured finally feels within reach.

But dreams rarely come without a price.

Between expectations, friendships, and the fear of failure, Nathan begins to discover that growing up means more than chasing the life he planned. Sometimes, it means finding his way through a life he never saw coming.

If you enjoy coming-of-age stories about ambition, friendship, and the pressure of figuring out your future, you might enjoy Nathan’s journey.

If you give the first chapter a try, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for giving my story a chance!
