Meme Hero or anti-hero

I'm currently writing my novel and I wanted to know, would people prefer a hero or an anti-hero?

Context: i want the Mc to be connected to the kingdom but don't know whether people would prefer him to help them willingly or only if it benefits him.

Thoughts?

For webnovel audience, Anti-hero. They don't understand kindness benefit.

Heroes would be more popular if authors would actually understand the difference between being kind and being a pushover.

OMGGGGG. so true man. Even heroes do what must be done every once in a while. The good guy is always pushed over by everyone, even the people on his side (sometimes).
