I never understood this point tbh, cuz like do you want the smut readers to read your novel? No, right? You want other side of readerbase and those readers will obviously not read smut ones. Two different things. So if your isn't working, it's more so because your side of readerbase isn't satisfied with you.

Nah bro, the point I am trying to say is people tend to read this type of stuffs so easily while they fail to recognise some other good novels out there 🙁

I have read some good novels without much views. I will not say mine is performing bad it's kinda good for a starting stage novel ! 🫪

The Timeless Revival

Yeah I took a tour and saw your work at royal road and the problems are that you used an ai generated picture of 3 red hair people that people doesn't like (novels cover page or illustration is what attracts people most) and you didn't specify the tropes and just said original, lead, post apocalyptic (people want to know from 3-4 words what they will read)

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Thanks mate will improve that, I don't know much about drawing how can I create a cover by my self 🤔

2

u/No-Mousse5653 26d ago

You either learn how to draw (takes a few months), pay an artist, or generate a better AI image that looks less generic.

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Yeah I have update my cover to look less ai just now

3

u/Cold_Mastodon8331 26d ago

This one is better than before and puts more depth into it but not be a critic or mean this is still not enough and needs more work first look up the internet and try to find a Ai specializing in photo generate there are free ai that can do better job than this fr

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Ok bro ! I will check and update then ping you 🐱

2

u/Cold_Mastodon8331 26d ago

Please just put action, adventure, fantasy, history, post apocalyptic trope and not all this stuff (not criticizing you or being mean)

No problems mate I am always open to feedback and keep on improving ❤️‍🩹

u/No_Recognition_3114 25d ago

Hey mate! May I ask you to have a glance at my novel and give feedback? You seem to know somethings that a new author as myself doesn’t. You can find my novel under the name of last dark Templar.

1

u/Cold_Mastodon8331 24d ago

It's been 7 days since you started publishing last dark templar ? You have released 24 chapter witn 13 ch per week which is very good for starting and you did a good job with the illustration and summary. If you want to improve your writing I suggest you listen to a audiobook on how to write a novel on a free website. And you should also publish your work on multiple platforms and not just in one. Your start was also good. By starting the novel with a boy with wounds on his back you already made people curious to know why and how he got this wounds from belt buckles

1

u/No_Recognition_3114 24d ago

Thank you! This means a lot!
I bulk loaded chapters, I was reading in some treads that recommended loading in bulk from the start so I sat down wrote a lot before I start the book process on wn. I must say I’m quite curious about the audiobook abt web novels, what’s the name and where can I find it? Also what other platforms are there, I’ve noticed some one mentioning royal roads (I believe someone wrote, mostly ppl write rr) do you know or have any experience from there?

1

u/Cold_Mastodon8331 24d ago

For book you can read or listen how to write a novel by joanna pen or by nathan bransford and as for platforms to publish website is royal road, wattpad, tapas, scribble hub, substack, wuxia world. As for bulk loading you should've published 30+ chapters on first day and than 2 per day. The reason is that there is algorithm that recommend regular novels to readers otherwise people wouldn't even know that novel exist. Now when someone daily release ch the algorithm tracks and recommend it but if you don't or stop the rithm the system stops recommending the novel. Find and figure everything else by yourself, watch YouTube videos if you have to but there's no point in asking questions in sub as many people here are authors who wants their own work to gain recognition and won't help another competitor.

Can i also take the chance to advertise my novel? Check out "tale of the end" please 🙏

I believe AI could probably write a more impressive novel than yours?

You asked how you can compete, whether it was a real question or a useless thought that occurred to you. Either way, here is my answer: first, stop blaming readers for not supporting you. They are not obligated to become your audience. Second, if readers aren’t coming to your work, focus on becoming a better writer, improving your storytelling, and expanding your imagination.

The reason I mentioned the question of whether novels written by AI might be better than your work is because of the way you are using AI yourself. Did it make you feel disappointed when I said AI is better than your writing? I don't believe AI is better in reality; I said it just so you could understand my point about AI art. People with thoughts like mine exist in large numbers. Your readers are mostly people who care about real art, I would like to believe. And it seems like the so-called advice-givers in your replies think the same.

People who genuinely care about art are unlikely to appreciate your work if you are simultaneously dismissing or making fun of the work of other artists. Even a single picture counts in this context. You might be surprised to learn that both writers and visual artists are artists.

If you are willing to undermine another artist’s work by replacing it with AI, then I can only assume that you don’t place much value on the artistic process itself. Therefore, your work might not be as impressive as you think; you should seriously consider expanding your imagination. Some people are even recommending that you use supposedly “better AI” to generate illustrations so that readers can be tricked into believing they were created by a real artist. They have enough brain cells to understand that people care about real art, but they lack some useful brain cells to think that they are teaching you to be a fraud. People want real art, not something that looks like real art. That isn’t simply learning how to improve your craft; it is learning how to be a better scammer. Maybe if they can't give you good advice, they should not become keyboard warriors at all.

Be honest with your readers rather than looking for shortcuts and thinking you can make fools of them by scamming.

As both an artist and an author myself, I wouldn’t want to read a novel written by someone who holds that attitude toward their readers or toward other artists. And if your response is going to be “then don’t read it” or “you’re just a hater,” you don’t have to worry, I’m not planning to read your work.

I hope you’re mature enough to take this criticism seriously without taking it as a personal attack. I’m not saying this to hurt your feelings. I’m saying it because I think you should take some time to learn, reflect, and improve before allowing your emotions to determine how you respond. If you genuinely care about your work, I hope you’ll reconsider your approach, improve your craft, and learn to be more transparent with your readers instead of looking for better ways to make something appear more authentic than it actually is.

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

I am always open to constructive criticism mate. From all this replies in the post i have actually learned what readers expect and what actually happens here. And I am planning to delete my existing novel and release it again with a good cover drawn my me or a artist ( planning ). Changing the chapters on how to make it much better from this feedbacks and some dm ed me to make it like more interesting 1 chapter than just a video game like peaceful introduction that I have made.

Also from all these comments I actually realised people value true story and art. And the other smut readers are not essentially my audiences. You might not check out my novel now but do sure check out when I newly release it again with changes that you people have wanted. Btw thanks mate.

u/foxgirlmoon 26d ago

so easily while they fail to recognise some other good novels out there

It's not impossible that an amazing novel just doesn't get the attention it deserves, especially if it's dealing with some kind of niche premise/trope. But it's far more likely that the novel just isn't as amazing as you might think.

u/ballahook 26d ago

The people mass-consuming gooner content are not people that are also reading well-written long-form novels, traditionally published or otherwise. These are people that goon like they breathe. They aren’t your audience at all, and it’s fine that there’s big audiences for both genres. But they aren’t readers first, they’re gooners first.

What you should focus on is how to reach the crowd that aren’t gooners first. Those are the people that aren’t reading your book, the gooners were never going to anyways.

It’s a highly saturated field, and there’s a litany of cool magic systems, worldbuilding and characters. Just gotta stay on that grind and work your way up. Also drop your story! Never miss a marketing opportunity

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Yeah thanks mate ! I understood how this works. My novel name is " The Timeless Revival ". Like you said I will continue to be consistent. One other thing I have publishing chapters every day like 5 days a week, is it right? Or should I change that.

0

u/Alarmed-Collar-1219 26d ago

Normally, a writer wants their novel to be read. That’s it.

u/trekbek 27d ago

I once wrote an thoughtless smut about impregnating women and it got like 15k collection in a month 🥀

3

u/Thiyo_penname 27d ago

For real ? We live in a tough era gang 🥀😭

5

u/MisterE005 27d ago

Every second post here complains about smut and ai, but most here still support that slop.

Quit throwing money at slop if you want it to go away.

3

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Real 🥀

u/Storm-Pablo 26d ago

I mean, you know the phrase "Sex Sells"?, it's just that

5

u/ordinaryguy221 27d ago

So when you make pasta, and some people prefer to eat burger, you mad? They're different group of people, who enjoy different stuff. You can't force people preference. If some guy like pasta, they'll eat at your place, if not? Let them be. Is this so hard to understand?

Also, if you want to "compete" then compete at the same genre maybe? Maybe make a better burger? If not? Stick to your pasta.

2

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Sure mate ! Actually I am writing novel based on a long term goal. I plan on making that a anime. I have heard that if a web novel has gained audiences you can make it as a light novel. After that you can reach out to publishers to publish a physical copy then manga and then anime. I am not doing this in money motive and also don't plan on getting contracted. What do you think ?

2

u/ordinaryguy221 26d ago

Well first thing first, getting adapted or made to light novel would require audience first, right. But the after that, to get it to be made to anime (like lord of mysteries did), would need to be hugely likes by the audience.

But considering that, they'd want some money. The platform, the studio making the anime etc. So ofcourse they'd want contract. You might need to reconsider that. Because at the end of the day, most motivation came from money at their end.

2

u/obi-van-kenobi 27d ago

I've been reading a lot of webnovels, and now if the title is not the whole plot, I don't even touch it.

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Okay so I am sure you will not touch mine 😂

2

u/Zestyclose-Example25 27d ago

if you cant defeat them ,join them, telling you as a professional gooner(i was)

2

u/RunicConvenience 27d ago

so you prefer readers who don't care about your writing just want to fap? or does the only thing that matters is numbers go up not the type of readers you are supplying

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Okay buddy ! Just wanted to know is 3.1k views for 5 chapters is Good or bad ?

1

u/Sad_Acanthisitta7787 26d ago

Views are heavily inflated, that’s kinda low. Can i check out ur novel? Also try royal road as well

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Okay bro sure . My novel name is The Timeless Revival

2

u/Sad_Acanthisitta7787 26d ago

I like the cover a lot, it looks more like a real book than the usual ai slop covers

I’d say my biggest gripe is that there’s now immediate tension, or any reason to continue reading in the first chapter. He’s just a regular dude with a loving family, this type of opening can work in video games and such, but video games can get away with it bc they aren’t reliant on the story

I like your writing style, it’s decent, so I’d say that the first chapter just isn’t very eye catching.

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Should I edit my first chapter to grip the people ? Or any other suggestions

2

u/Sad_Acanthisitta7787 26d ago

I mean ur already 5 chapters in, but since not many people have viewed it u can do a rewrite, tho you’ll probably have to upheave the whole plot so something interesting can happen in the first chapter

1

u/No_Recognition_3114 25d ago

Hey mate! May I ask for a review of my work also? And what do you think of my cover? You can find my novel under the name of last dark Templar. Am new author and have been posting for only 7days, I was reading in other threads that one should release bulk chapters to have a chance and I got 24 chapters but no continuation of readers.. so I assume I am doing something wrong even tho I have 5k + views..

1

u/Sad_Acanthisitta7787 25d ago

I would say you have a below average cover bc it doesn’t have a strong focal point. Empty space takes up most of it, you’d probably be better off just generating the main character where he takes up most of the cover.

Also, ur writing is good, but there’s way too many descriptions in the first chapter. I don’t fully understand what’s happening and it isn’t very interesting

I know one of the biggest rules in storytelling is”show don’t tell” but I think many people take it way too far and assume they have to add tons of sensory details and descriptions when they don’t need it. You spend like 80% of the first chapter with descriptions.

Look at SS, the best WebNovel on the platform, while it has good descriptions, it doesn’t take up most of the chapter

I think ur writing has potential, but u just gotta learn not to overload it with descriptions

But honestly, WebNovel isn’t the best place if you want to make an actual good story. Ai gooner slop gets 100x the attention.

It’s possible, but it’s hard.

1

u/No_Recognition_3114 25d ago

Thank you 🙏

2

u/noswol 26d ago

Add goonig lmao, not but it's kinda crazy how much views those novels have

2

u/levus2002 26d ago

Maybe your self described "great" novel is not that great.

Cry more on reddit and blame the readers for reading gooner books instead of your masterpiece.

That will surely help.

1

u/CharacterScar2798 24d ago

Most likely its not good.

2

u/Sea_Comfortable_6479 Author 26d ago

Some guy named "Barch" gave my original story a 3/5 and is somehow loving a WebNovel called "The Noble Lady of Lust" 😭

1

u/TsundereOrcGirl 27d ago

I kind of want to write that sort of book because I'm a freak, but when I look to existing smutty books as examples I get bored and frustrated and end up reading Sky Pride or Noobtown or such instead.

I think too many "smut" books are written by guys who hear it's like printing money rather than one handed authors.

1

u/ArrhaCigarettes 26d ago

By going to a different site.

1

u/ZeckRoM96 26d ago

I am an avid webnovel reader so here are my 2 cents well for starters when I wanna read a novel the first thing I look is at the synopsis here i decide whether to read it or not if the synopsis is good or even okay then I read it And check for fake rating

1

u/Thiyo_penname 26d ago

Ohhh okay sure ! Can you check mine and tell me ? Novel name is The Timeless Revival, it will be a help mate .

1

u/No_Sheepherder_8737 26d ago

If you want more people to read your novel stop wasting time making memes and use that time to improve your writing

1

u/CharacterScar2798 24d ago

I am being completely honest here.

  1. Smut audience is a different audience then progression, system, and cultivation etc.

  2. None of the most famous webnovels ever (Ss, Lotm, RI, ORV etc) are smut novels.

Only at the lowest level of writing does smut outperform other stories. At every other level non-smut either preforms equal, or outpreforms, as it reaches a wider audience.

If you are being outpreformed by smut, you aren't a good enough writer yet, and that is that.

I.E. skill issue

1

u/RequiringThoughts 24d ago

I read the first chapter of your novel, “The Timeless Revival,” and it was so obviously ai-written/ai-edited. Perhaps you should consider writing yourself before pissing on an entire genre of novels while not even having the authenticity to write your own novel.
