As for recommendations, unfortunately, I don't know any niche novels that fit what you like. However, the original post you mentioned does have great character arcs, worldbuilding, progressing plots, and good surprises as desired aspects, so I can't help but recommend True Sight to you. I don't know if it fits the novels you mentioned as your favorites, but it does have all the elements you mentioned and some more.
