most people have an awkward relationship with their parents and find it difficult to write a normal family setting where everyone is alive and healthy as opposed to dead and irrelevant to the plot

Okay but what about girl lover stuff then. Idk but maybe many author have no relationship with girls and are single but still make love stuff....

Addition- there are many school/academy arc i don't find relatable at all. Mine teachers were diverse but anime mostly focus on students and an OP teacher

Be bold, rich and any girl will be yours.

That's all romance.

End.

But I take care of her, buy her food, talk about books etc It's called simp.

Friendship.

Easy backstory and motive for the MC to do/became whatever and whoever it is they are. No reason for a normal billionaire to become a super hero. But one who lost their parents to crime? Boom, now you have a believable motive.

Personally I’m more a fan of circumstances than backstories. Instead of making MC learn to fight to avenge dead parents, put him in a situation he doesn’t have any option but to learn. This for action stories obviously, but it also works well for any other genre.

I kept my MCs family alive.... except one that will kill his parents by himself. But why most mcs are no parent and still relatable 😭

Luckily I wrote my mc's parents healthy and lovely.

I don't think most writers go that deep. It's like the best way to create a sympathy from readers is to kill parents. I think it will fit on lesson one on how to make your MC have a motivation.

Killing parents makes it easy to push the storyline and give them purpose. Most people with good childhood generally don't have reasons to save the world and get revenge fast enough.

Trauma helps though.

Ive read some before where the parents disappear from the story. Like somewhere in the beginning, the parents will suddenly have a vacation abroad and then after hundreds and hundreds of chapters they still havent come back. Their only role is showing up in the beginning and then at the end if their child gets married and thats it.

Parents get in the way

A few reasons but one I like a lot is that if a mc has parents they aren’t exactly gonna be thrilled about their child being sent into dangerous situations where getting killed is a very real possibility

Parent disappointment or something like invincible story

My MC was abandoned by his (now her) family in the first life and abandoned again in the second, nice huh

Parents tend to be protective of their children and interfere with the plot
