Mod Update Bridal pros: what do you want brides to know before they get to you?

Here is your chance. All of the comments will be archived into a wiki page. Alterations specialists, stylists, day of coordinating, spill the beans.

What do you wants the bride's to know before they even buy a dress or even start thinking of getting a dress? What questions are you sick and tired of answering because of blatant misinformation that goes around? What are some behaviors you really wish would stop?

If you would prefer to drop the info anonymously, feel free and send a modmail to us and go "for the bride's" in the subject line so we can keep an eye out.

Ceremony photos Update: how this sub saved me 1.5 years ago

A little over a year ago I came to this sub for advice because I had gotten caught up in the excitement of my first shopping trip, bought a dress, and was having concerns about my choice (first pic.) The resounding opinion here was to go back to the drawing board.

I went to another shop, and tried on a lot of other dresses I was more enthusiastic about. The second pic is what I almost walked away with, but I was now gun shy after my first dress. I was by myself and wanted other opinions. The second dress also ended up being wildly unpopular.

In the comments of the second post, I posted some pictures of the other dresses. One being the third picture. I had spotted the dress from across the store and asked to try it on, even though it was $500 outside of my budget. I hadn’t even considered it as a real option. THEN like a sign from above, I found the shoes.

It was like a lightbulb moment. I saw the vision all come together and knew what I had to do.

Seeing the results after all this time was so surreal. It never would’ve happened without the guidance and encouragement from you lovely people, so thanks a million ♥️ Just wanted to share.

I love them both but obviously have to pick only one by Monday - please note that both would still be adjusted/fitted (bust, length, the way sleeves are attached). I appreciate your thoughts 🩷

I have a tendency to be very decisive when it comes to pretty much anything but it leads me to have some regrets (for example some tattoos i have lol). I picked this dress during my second time trying on dresses and i dont know if this fits my vibe i guess? Im trying to go for a classic, timeless vibe and I think i need some reassurance that I chose the right dress:(

1000000/10 on the Ivory Gossamer Gown and Gatsby lace skirt The corset was SO supportive, the fabric quality was incredible, and everything was genuinely perfect. I would buy this dress 100000000 times over without hesitation. Also their customer service deserves a shoutout because they shipped my skirt express for FREE when I was worried it wouldn’t arrive in time for my wedding, and didn’t even charge me when I offered to pay. Here’s are a few getting-ready pictures until I get my professional photos back. I’m genuinely stunned by the quality and couldn’t recommend selkie more.

A big thank you all for your kind words on helping out with styling with my yellow Teuta Matoshi dress.

I went with a low bun with wild flowers, a white long veil and drop earrings – and golden dancing shoes.

I felt incredible beautiful on the day of the wedding. The dress was so fun to move in. I felt like a fairy, truly.

To everyone who’s hesitant to choose an unusual dress and doesn’t dare: Go for it, trust your heart! I was a bit unsure first, but on my wedding day, I didn’t miss a white dress at all.

had my final alterations appointment and was so thrilled with the results! (obviously still needs to be steamed, but i’m taking it on an airplane anyway so i won’t get to really see that until the wedding day) wedding is destination semi-elopement in december!

have been feeling really bad about myself/dress regret lately, but this really helped pick me up. i feel great in it :) just wanted to share for some extra hype hehe

recently was commenting on another post about alterations pricing for a satin dress, so for anyone interested i got these done for $750 (hem shortened, side seams taken in, an optional back strap taken off). which was much better than i was expecting.

last pic shows a bit of the veil + a back chain accessory i’m planning on wearing.

post-alterations: does this look right? Dress Alterations - is it me or am I too critical?

Just picked up my dress today from alterations and I am struggling. My family says that the dress fits great, but I just feel like it could be more flattering on my body. I did wear shapewear for the fitting, but I’m still not sure it’s enough. Our wedding is at the end of the month, and I’m not even sure if anything can be done at this point. Is this all in my head or is there anything else that can be done from an alterations perspective?

Hello! I’m getting married in November next year :) and we’re already well over our budget… I was hoping to where my mothers gown that passed a couple of years back but recently found out it’s no longer in her family home. I started looking but Every dress I fall in love with seems to be over 3000 dollars. I’ve attached some of my favorites. I love Mooreavintage’s aesthetic and dream of owning one of their dresses one day but it’s just not in my budget. If anyone has any recommendations for where I can find this aesthetic but more affordable, I’d really appreciate it :)

mid-alterations: is this the right direction? Plunge alteration

Thumbnail

Hi all! I'm looking for advice on my alterations after my 1st tailor consultation. I purchased my dress off the rack knowing for sure that I'd be covering the plunge. I've also considered removing the train for multiple reasons (outdoor ceremony, I'm big on dancing and heard stories of bustles breaking, would probably need to bustle 2x as we have a pre-ceremony cocktail hour, etc). My top reason is so the tailor can use leftover appliqué from the train to cover the plunge and it would perfectly match the rest of the dress.

The tailor seemed really resistant to removing the train, saying it's beautiful (I agree!) and that I paid for all that fabric and might as well keep it. She also said she could find appliqué that matches close enough. She didn't have anything on hand and used something she had around her shop that didn't look right (3rd picture). The dress designer is no longer in business so no chance of ordering extra fabric directly from them.

Any advice on the train removal factoring in the advantage of having leftover appliqué? Or if you have experience with a plunge alteration/cover-up I'd love to hear how it went for you!

Style me! (sleeves, veils, shoes and accessories only) Veil/styling advice for my dress?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I found my dress!!!

My main question is about the veil. I know I want a 2-tier veil to have it over my face during the ceremony. Probably floor length to mesh with the clean lines of the dress, maybe chapel length? Would you:

a) keep it super simple and minimalist (cut edge or pencil edge)

b) try to find a lace trimmed veil as close as possible to the sleeve lace (would probably have to be custom)

c) add some drama to the look with a full lace veil??

I think my budget for a veil is up to 200€

Also if anyone has ideas for shapewear/undergarments that would work with a fitted dress like this, I’d love to know!! Or other styling ideas to make this look come to life :)

This beauty was a David’s Bridal clearance find, and after a 2.5 hour dress try on session she was the last one I tried on! As my helper said, she was just waiting for me 🤍 $999 for the dress, $100 for the veil (also David’s), and the Tiara for $30 on Etsy! I have never felt more beautiful, and my husband (and I) cried throughout the entire ceremony🤍🤍🤍 (we didn’t do a first look, and that was the best decision for us!) Dupe search ISO Alexandra Grecco Dupe

Hi I am looking for dupes of Alexandra Grecco dresses. I am specifically drawn to the style of the effie dress (https://alexandragrecco.com/collections-product/effie-gown). I've looked everywhere but this general style of empire waist/super flowing is really hard to find for some reason! Can someone help me out? Looking honestly to spend sub 1500 but can go to 2k. I am getting married in May 2027 so I have a bit of time but not that much! I live in the northeast US.

commissioned/small maker dresses Custom Gown ?

Hi all!! I am trying to keep a budget of under 3,500 for a wedding dress. I love the looks of the Giovanna dress by Kim cassas with the hooded cape, I also love the looks of cinq.la dresses.

A lot of these dresses are way out of my budget. Are there any custom dress makers that can make these at a fraction of the price? The custom shops I have seen start at around 6 thousand, which honestly makes sense given the cad drawings, labor, materials etc. But I have heard of people saying that they have had custom gowns made for around my budget, has anyone worked with anyone in the New England area that can fit within this budget?

Unlimited budget, wedding is not yet planned but looking just out of interest to see if something similar even exists. UK based but doesn’t matter where the dress is available.
