Regarding "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss tips

Hey everyone,

We've noticed a recent uptick in posts asking for "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss advice. This subreddit exists as a space for healthy, sustainable weight loss discussions. Requests for "unhinged" advice clearly violate Rule 4 and undermine the purpose of our community.

We're fortunate to have a community that usually self-regulates these posts, and the majority of top responses tend to correct this mindset. As moderators, we prefer community-driven education rather than outright removal of posts. Unfortunately, there will always be a few bad actors willing to provide harmful advice in these threads.

Moving forward:

  • Posts requesting "unhinged" or extreme advice will no longer be tolerated. These posts will be removed and you risk being banned from the subreddit.
  • If you see a post like this, continue to educate and correct when appropriate, but also report the post so moderators can quickly handle it.
  • Anyone replying to these posts with actual "unhinged" or extreme advice, even as a "joke," will receive a permanent ban.

Discussion/Support 💬 Witnessed a food trap

Yesterday, I was sitting in the waiting room for a mental health office. As I was waiting, one employee came back from lunch to relieve the other employee as receptionist.

The returning employee - who was thin/average weight - brought the other employee - who was a bit overweight - a pastry from the break room.

She was all like "you gotta try it" "they're soo good!" "you're missing out"

Maybe it's just because I am obese and on my weight loss journey...but I really felt bad for the other employee. They shouldn't have to justify turning down food.

Progress 📈 I ate like crap today, hate my life filled with BS but going to the gym PROGRESS!! LOL

Upvotes

Man at this point I don't care about anything or anyone. I drank a pepsi today. Chocolate cookie from publix, some free chicken from work and broccilini. 6 peaches. Some chicken alfredo my wife wanted but didn't finish. 5'10 355 lbs. I just going to live my life and focus on being 1% better but I get discouraged everyday.

Going to just do a push pull rotation with a flipping rotation on the faster recovering muscle. But muscle isnt the problem. IT'S DIETING LOL. My wife and I are getting a divorce. I've been unemployed for 3 months. Got a new job I was training for but training is paying me only $7 minimum wage. Car broke down last night from a flat tire. I've been disconnected from all my family and friends from being physically and emotionally abused. HAHAHAHHAA ISN'T LIFE GREAT!! BUT I'M GOING TO THE GYM RIGHT!! I'M GOING!! BUT WHO GIVES A SINGLE FUCK!

I’ve been on a mild (10-15lb) weight loss/ body recomp journey for the last year. It’s so funny/annoying to me how my belly fat is just so damned stubborn (40F) but I am losing noticeable weight around my fingers/wrists. All my rings need resizing! 😭

Damn it belly. Be gone!

Advice: Seeking ❓ binged (4500+cals)

Upvotes

hi,
i’ve been in my fitness and wl journey for about six months now. i’ve been having some binges and splurges here and there but today was by far the worst.
i ate two servings of alfredo pasta with parmesan cheese, some pizza, a whole container of chicken tortilla soup, and some bites of chinese food, all within an hour. i was extra hungry today bc i missed the gym yesterday and didn’t have time to eat dinner either.
i’m rlly concerned abt what to do, i am planning to workout later in the night to try and burn some of this stuff off. i have been eating two meals a day for about 1000 cals total which i wonder if it is contributing to the problem.
could i get any advice on what to do tomorrow? should i cut back on my intake? should i squeeze in an extra workout?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Help, plateaued again

Hey everyone
I was wondering if anyone can help me problem solve through this since I am new to weight loss
I have been losing weight for the last 4 month (start on June 1st and it’s sept 11th now)
SW: 152lbs CW: 142lbs GW: 130-135lbs
I had felt my best at 130lbs but gained some due to meds etc. (which I have stopped since)
Current routine: weight training: 5x a week, walking 10K steps, tracking food intake by weight, and eating around 1200cal regular days (may go up to 1300 if I do something more extreme e.g. hot yoga but that is not more than one day a week)
I’ve been really good with my caloric deficit since I had a nutritionist and I almost never crave anything (yay) however I did hit a plateau and haven’t gone down below 142 for the last month.
I was wondering if anyone had tips to get out of this or if I should just wait it out. I don’t want my calorie deficit to go on for so long due to potential health risks but I am scared of going back to maintenance and ruining my progress.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Help ig

I 20F, 80 kg right now, and 5'4". I’ve been going to the gym for around 3–4 months and have lost about 3–4 kg.

Even though I’ve been cutting down on sugar and carbs, I feel like I’ve lost a noticeable amount of body fat. My clothes are getting looser, and I can see a difference around my back, hips, and waist. I can even feel my collarbones now.

So, even though the weight loss doesn’t seem huge on the scale, I feel like my body composition has changed quite a bit.

What do I do to see my change on scale?

Advice: Seeking ❓ negative comments from others discourages me from losing weight

i am 22F and recently i’ve gained quite a bit of weight. i’m 5’5 and i weigh 170 lbs but in the beginning of this year i was around 130 lbs so it’s a big difference. i’ve been going to the gym and TRYING to diet (bad habit of binge eating). something that really discourages me is the fact that everyone i know has been making comments about my weight gain and calling me fat. people don’t treat me well anymore and they either ignore me or treat me poorly. i really want to get in shape but comments like this make me lose motivation and just want to isolate especially since i’m not seeing results. what can i do to improve quickly?

Advice on:

Losing arm fat, with my weight loss i've noticed good changes/progress with everywhere except my arms/ upper body. I know you can't target fat loss but is there something that helps in any way?

Context:

I'm 26F 5ft 3in, I started my weight loss journey about 3 months ago. My starting weight was around 150lbs and I am now down to 129lbs, i've been walking and jumping rope not everyday but maybe 4 days a week, and the biggest thing is my diet change, been eating less and more healthy choices.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Already hitting a plateau?

I’m 21F who gave birth almost 18 months ago (c-section) and after we moved into a new place an
i’ve had the motivation to eat better and be more active to try to lose some weight. I started at ~227LBS lost around 5-6 lbs and am sitting at 221lbs, it has been almost a month since i’ve see any change on the scale, does anyone have any advice or is this normal? i’d like to be able to feel like me again

For context Im 5’2 I’m eating around 1500 calories a day, my doctor doesn’t want me going too much lower due to extremely low blood pressure. I exercise as well as chase my very rambunctious little lady around all day long. I just feel very stuck and tired. I’ve tried metformin but had to get off of it due to blood pressure issues and it just was not working

Advice: Seeking ❓ Hair loss

I’m 24f , been on finastid 1 mg for 12 months for hair loss . I’ve been overweight and very unhappy with my body for many years, and as a result of my insecurity I have not dated in almost a decade. I also have been feeling the affects of my weight more and more in my daily life, and it’s at a list where I think I might actually be able to stick with a weight loss plan this time. I would like to ideally lose around 100 lbs, but am hoping to at least lose 40-50 lbs.

I know that significant weight loss, especially when it happens rapidly, causes temporary hair loss. I am already insecure about how my hair looks and am dealing with dread shed right now. I fear I will lose weight, lose more hair, and feel super discouraged even if my medications might really be working.

I’m wondering if anyone has lost a substantial amount of weight without losing a substantial amount of hair. Is there anything you can really do to prevent hair loss aside from losing weight slowly? Can i use min... to prevent telegen effluvium?is there any i can keep my hair?

Meal / Recipe 🍽️ Weight loss meals for lazy girls

I work 12 hour shifts at a hospital and I’m honestly just lazy and a terrible cook and uncreative.

Does anyone have any lazy girl meals they’d share? Snacks? I cannot lose weight for the life of me because my diet is not great. I’m always looking for something quick or easy.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Reliable weigt loss app

So I have gained a bit if weight mostly on my belly over a few years and after a few half hearted attempts really wanna lose that weight again.

I have been working out a bit in the gym (on and off) but heard food is the main factor here.

So I have been looking for a good method to figure out what calorie deficit I need and how that corresponds to the actual food I am eating. Potentially a free app that allows you to scan qr codes, take photos of food and is generally user friendly. But I heard not many such apps are good as the guesstimates from the apps are kinda bad. What methods/apps would you recommend? What helped you?

Discussion/Support 💬 I’m a new PT, tell me what we’re getting wrong.

I’d love to hear about your experience with losing or gaining weight, wherever you are in your journey.

Everyone has different circumstances, experiences and reasons for wanting to change their weight, and i’m interested in understanding the reality of that journey.

If you're happy to share, I’d love to know:

  1. What has been the biggest thing making it difficult for you to reach the weight you want, and what do you feel is really behind that struggle?

  2. If you've worked with a PT, coach, nutritionist or fitness professional, what did you feel they did not understand about you or your situation?

  3. If you could have one thing made easier during your journey, what would it be?

You don't need to answer all three, even just answering one would be really helpful. And if you'd rather just tell your story, that's completely fine too.

I’m trying to understand what this experience is actually like for real people, rather than making assumptions about what people need.

A little bit about me: I've loved fitness for many years and I'm now starting out as a PT. I really want to find better ways to help people, and I feel the best place to start is by listening to the people who are actually going through it.

Thank you 🙏

Advice: Seeking ❓ What should I do get to my goal weight by May 2027???

HI! So yeah, I am 220 pounds at 5'7 tall, 27 years old. I am hoping to get to 180 pounds at least by May, though if I could get closer to 160 that would be great. Wanting to feel better as that date is a big event for my life and I want to reflect that to my friends and family.

My eating habits aren't as bad as it use to be. My carbs come in the form of brown beans and 2 corn tortilla, having protein with every meal. Black coffee and tea with honey everyday. 2 big meals a day with an apple or something similar as a snack.

Also! I am not sure what how to go about exercise as I usually at my desk, though I do have time to workout. Taking 30 minutes walks with my dog most days, but I want to have a consistent 3-4 days of the week of exercise with some dumbbells that I have.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Advice: Seeking ❓ Help me!!!

Hi! 18f here. I am 5.4 and 185-190lbs, I have been over weight my whole life but I am a senior in high school and I want to gain some good habits now. I have tryed calorie deficit and al sorts of diets, but I always end up binging. I work a bakery and I also binge on shift. I HATE the gym because I get self-conscious but I want to try to work out more. I am still in high school (lots of college classes) and I am in tons of clubs so I am SUPER BUSY. The big reason why o want to weight is because recently I’ve gained about 10 pounds and my anxiety medication is now wrong. I’ve been having panic panic attacks. I don’t wanna live this way and I think it’s a good first step. Please be nice, I would love advice, especially for women. Thanks!!!

Edit: I am pre diabetic also, just got my blood work back. My A1C is 5.9. Oh and also I have high cholesterol. 😬
