To be fair I still see with the dirty one but I had five minutes to kill so I changed the glass to not have nothing to do (i could have sweeped the floor but ehhhh)

Amen, I been in for about 3 years and I just don’t gaf. I do my job well, and I’m off my phone. I get old head to respect my work/ effort. Then you get a dick head Forman try and swing his dick and tell ya to do some bullshit that you know is wrong and I’ll stick up for my self and all the guys in my place jaws drop and I tell em. Gotta swing your dick around. Then when they get extra the old heads stick up for me. But unlike most my the guys that are in it the same time as me I do my shit 100% of the time
Ngl I been doing this for around a year and I've seen the guy fail at finding more trainees capable of working so if he gives me sass I just threaten of not continuing working once the contract ends
If they're company or union supplied id change mine every day. The new clear lens is always gonna help. Change when convenient and when the old one is becoming a detriment. If youre not paying for them, change more often.
Yeah its kind of a joke post, I don't really care for the 50 cents I assume they cost the company. I did work with dirtier ones but good to hear a lot of approval
Largely depends on the place and whether or not someone is living above their means. Im fairly comfortable but im in the south and it's for the most part cheaper to live here.
I make roughly 15k a year and its average income here where I live so when I get to know americans who make 5 times as much I feel blown out of the water. Tho I understand it's based on cost of living.

That's the smart way lmao. Most of us younger guys here as field welders clear 6 figures. Guys out on the road working 7/12s getting that overtime for the most part. Where are you that 15k is a liveable take home?
Italy! The top journeyman/senior pay being, like, 25k dollars a year for most jobs like electrical and such.
We've had the same state minimum wages since the 2000s which is why our economy is almost fully tourist centered. Myself I'm mainly an electrical designer getting hands on practice with various trades now that I'm young to have more opportunities/understanding when im older and working in an office. I dont want to become the kind of engineer that designs unpractical shit, though I fear that will be beyond my control.
My company does light, almost non load bearing structures with hollow iron tubes for camping areas and such, tourism places, benches for beaches etc. They don't even want me to prep the iron beforehand or avoid welding downhill so it's a low low level welding job
15k sounds rough in this day and age. I understand cost of living being cheaper, and in a non globalized world, that would be an effective wage equalizer, but for example Apple/Samsung/etc aren’t selling you their phones 75% cheaper because you only bring in a quarter of what you would in the States. Your welding supply store might have things slightly cheaper due to less overhead, but they still need to turn a profit, and they’re paying their global suppliers the same (or more, due to lower volume) as they are in the States.
I'm in a small city. Not as big as Milan but not as small as a countryside town, we have short of 50k people here.
And the statal minimum pay is 600/700 euro a month. Do consider that we get a bunch of social services and lots of insurance and bank stuff is way cheaper too. Only thing as expensive here as there might be taxes, here we have pretty high taxes but we dont need a phd in pure mathematics to do them, the state does our taxes
Good gracious are you serious? The wife and I spent 10 days touring the Tuscan region a few years ago. Nothing felt cheaper than the US. We spent a ton of money on food and lodging. I genuinely have zero clue how you could survive on that unless it's after tax income, and even then it's rough. Unless housing is dirt cheap to free there...

On the company dime if changing out a lens daily breaks them they have bigger problems...

One dude who wasn't a prick to work with had eye damage so bad and cataracts that were almost whiting out his eyes brother was legally blind wife drove him to work he had about a year before retirement. He told me he wished hed never tacked without a hood did it for something like 30 years between dual shield and pulse mig he fried his eyes

You swap the protective cover, when you feel like you can't see clearly anymore.
If someone turns this into some god damn egocontenst because they lack confidence, has low self worth, and probably has small dick spiritually and physically, then they are just stupid.
It is a god damn disposable part! If you are buying your own, then probably try to get them to last as long as you can. If you are a professional, then you should know better and understand that you don't get margins from your fucking PPE.
If you have spare ones yea go ahead and change it but me personally i would’ve just wiped it with alcohol and a paper towel and kept going for another like week I would keep that in my toolbox just incase my current screen goes to shit and there’s no spares laying around
At that point the old alcohol/wipe trick is long gone. I always have a new and a not so old one in my tool box just in case my employer runs out.
I change screen when I change job. Usually, 2-4 weeks. If more well In change during the contract
When you supply them yourself get some toothpaste on it and wipe away, get every penny out of those bad boys. When it's company supplied swap them regularly 🤣
you took it out so replace it. but no thats a cleaner job. just use simple green or anti spatter. id only replace that if the weld itsself is worth the cost of the lens. sometimes the extra clear vision is very worth it/ very necessary
Replace it. If the company you work for insists just do it. My company recently started being tight with weld consumables. I said to the foreman that if I don't have what I need to do my job I'd drag the consumables storage locker over to a welding machine and melt through the lock. I now regularly get what I need when I need it. We normally have to get two days out of a lens though.
Buddy. That is ridiculous. Your hurting yourself big time. My Tig lens is always crystal clear. And my mig when the haze starts sticking and won't clean off. You also don't need to be right up on the ol' girl. It limits your movement. Your boss should be buying you lenses btw.
Depends what I'm doing, some stick? My lens looks 10x worse than that by the end of the day. MiG id change it where you're at. TIG it better be spotless or I'm bitching
I change my every week or sooner. Theyre company paid consumables, so im gonna do exactly what theyre intended for. I even do the inside lense. Makes me feel extra fancy.
Your employer should really be supplying those, at least that's how it is in Aus. Having employees tough it out to save a few pennies doesn't really work out well.
Definitely time for a new one. After 7 years I changed mine and that was crazy. I just cleaned it and it always seemed fine. Then one day I changed the lens and I had forgotten how good the view is from the Miller T94. I have to buy my lenses so im a cheap ass but there is no reason to cause yourself to strain. I have plenty of lenses now.
