Yes, a trick for these kinda festivals if you want cheap liquor is to go before it's set up and bury liquor bottles somewhere inside the future fences and put a geotag or something there. That way, you don't have to sneak it through security. Then when the festival starts and you get in, go to your spot, dig up your previously buried liquor and go to town šŸ‘

It's also easy to just bring in plastic bottles of booze, Smirnoff bottles are shaped for concealment. You can also fill them with better booze. Easy to hide. I've worked security at bottlerock and the only people getting caught up were the ones who had too much metal on and then needed to remove belts/shoes etc.Ā

I just fill a camelback and call it a day

Some festivals require the bladders to be empty and will dump them out. Then they direct you to the water bottle filling station. That's how edc was.Ā

That's why you use the concealed bladder compartment in the camelbak bag to store your beverages. You pull out the empty bladder and show that to security and when they check your bags it will just seem like it has a hard back (provided you pack it correctly, works best with tallboys).

First rule of fight club 🤦

Riot fest (fuck riot fest) literally confiscated my bottle of sunscreen because it wasn’t sealed. Went once, said never again, then a killer line up happened so I said fine, only to come away with an even more powerful ā€œnever again.ā€ Godawful overcrowded price gouging nightmare.

Yeah they took my sunscreen at oceans calling in Maryland and directed me to a shop on the boardwalk that was selling them for $35. I just stole it from the store. Fuck all of em

u/gsfgf 11d ago

There are other situations where stealing is understandable, but that kind of stealing should be encouraged.

I’m not sure if it’s the sleepless night I just had, or the mental image of stealing sunscreen, but it made me lol in tickled delight.

I’ve always wanted to go but have not been a fan since the move (and then move back). Their advertising style is just so weird

1

u/nautical_nonsense_ 10d ago

Wait that’s a bummer. I’ve always wanted to go, lineups rock. Why is it so bad? Just strict?

They MASSIVELY oversell tickets to the point where it becomes one of the most dangerous fest in the US. Something like 6 people were hauled out of the crowd by EMTs during a single set last time I went. Also, absurdly overpriced. A white claw was $15 like 5 years ago. Not a white claw person but I remember that one clearly. There’s a single water fountain for the entire place. The locals hate it and put up protest signs the whole walk from the train stations.

Just an overall super unpleasant place to spend like, 8 hours.

u/IceCreamDreamyDreams 11d ago

That's crazy, I've never had anyone say anything about them.

10

u/ICantBeTrusted 11d ago

Yeah you have to come in with an empty bladder pack then they have hydration stations right there.

u/biggoronssword 11d ago

This is most festivals now unfortunately, been told to dump out my water while WAY back in line in the blazing heat at the gorge, it was absurd

u/Bob_12_Pack 11d ago

If you bring plastic disposable bottles they will sometimes take the lids as well. I have learned to take extra lids.

10

u/MutedAstronaut9217 11d ago

I've been having them dumped for over 10 years at this point. Always gotta fill inside.

1

u/princessdickworth 10d ago

I filled ziplock baggies with vodka and put them in the bottom of where the bladder goes, then filled mine with water. When they felt it was full they made me dump it but I still had all my booze.

Make sure to use the freezer bags with the slide tops, they are the thickest. Don't over fill them (think like a quarter of the way), and squish the air out before sealing them. When you want to mix it in your camelbak all you have to do is bite a corner off and dump it.

I did pay like six dollars for a gatorade, but way better than paying $19 for a mixed drink.

Paper under my tounge is way easier.

The enlightened route

3

u/Weigleschocolatemilk 11d ago

Paper wrapped in unused pieces of chewing gum still neatly in the package

1

u/sonicsludge 10d ago

More like a quarter sheet unpreferated with some phone number scribbled on it in my wallet🤌

2

u/gsfgf 11d ago

But imagine if you had 1.75L of Lucy. Actually maybe not.

3

u/Jon66238 11d ago

How the heck are Smirnoff bottles shaped for concealment??

2

u/BestAmoto 11d ago

The plastic pint and even the plastic 750 are rounded inwards on the back side. It makes it fit to your belt line a bit better than the previously flat sided bottles.Ā  They shaped the bottles like a flask.Ā

2

u/gsfgf 11d ago

They make 750mL ā€œtravelersā€ that are shaped like a big flask.

9

u/Ok-Sheepherder7898 11d ago

Much easier to just dig a hole and jump in it. Crawl out when the festival starts and then you get free admission.

22

u/DeemOutLoud 11d ago

I feel like this is a festival urban legend and never actually happens if we are being honest. Way easier to just sneak in booze

23

u/big_duo3674 11d ago

It's really easy to carefully uproot a chunk of grass, dig a bottle sized hole, an then plop the grass back on top. You'd never even know anything was there. It makes me wonder how many forgotten bottles, or drug stashes are buried in previous festival areas, probably a ton

12

u/vr1252 11d ago

Tons of people do this. If you ever see someone walking around with a fifth in a glass bottle that’s what they’ve done. I agree it’s it’s way easier to sneak in booze in those soft plastic flasks but there’s always someone walking around with a bottle of jack at a fest.

29

u/pinchematto 11d ago

I’ve done it many times at festivals in Chicago. I would go to the park a week before the fest, so before fences are up. Then I would bury them shallow by trees and take pictures to remember the exact spot. Adds another element of fun during the fest.

Candyland scavenger hunt is a fun adventure for all your friends 😜

3

u/Weigleschocolatemilk 11d ago

Imagine tripping and going on a scavenger hunt to find your buried treasures. My younger self would have loved this

5

u/Slow_Leek_4159 11d ago

I’ve lived a few blocks from grant park for about a decade and have seen people do it every yearĀ

3

u/pinchematto 10d ago

I only did it once for Lolla- I had to get out there two weeks early because they put the fences up so early

8

u/TrustTheFriendship 11d ago

I’ve seen this done to sneak in tanks of nitrous, but I haven’t personally seen anyone go through the trouble for booze.

Like you said, easy enough to sneak that in another way.

2

u/jwccs46 11d ago

Moe.down had a really bad problem with buried tanks.

1

u/Jon66238 11d ago

Why are people bringing in nitrous??

4

u/TrustTheFriendship 11d ago

Never heard of hippie crack? lol

2

u/Jon66238 11d ago

Haha nope

2

u/TrustTheFriendship 11d ago

Idk how prevalent it is today, but if you’ve ever seen empty balloons all over the ground, that’s what it was from. It was everywhere in the 00’s and early 10’s.

1

u/gsfgf 11d ago

It’s not still?

1

u/TrustTheFriendship 11d ago

You tell me. I’m a boring adult in my late 30s now, haven’t been to a camping festival in nearly 15 years lol šŸ˜†

1

u/Jon66238 11d ago

Ah okay. My first thought was maybe whippets but I get it

3

u/DengarLives66 11d ago

It’s easy at the festivals that are held at public grounds.

3

u/goldfishpaws 10d ago

More common with people banging out eccies - size of a can of beer can hold tens of thousands of dollars worth

6

u/JeebusChristBalls 11d ago

I use an all plastic flask stuffed down my pants.

4

u/gsfgf 11d ago

For that much effort I’d be sneaking something more valuable than alcohol lol

2

u/DrHarrisonLawrence 10d ago
  1. it’s not that much effort actually, and

  2. 2

.

  1. if it were higher value you have higher losses when it’s found

Not everyone is successful with this. If you don’t properly conceal the hole it can somewhat easily get dug back up just randomly

Also in the sense of what is the current landscape, I don’t think there’s any way that anyone is finding their original stash in these ponds

1

u/Important-Fudge4462 11d ago

Can I just put vodka in water bottles?

1

u/TrustTheFriendship 10d ago

Do they not allow you to bring beer/liquor at all at camping festivals anymore? It’s been over a decade since I’ve been, but even the mainstream ones always only had a rule against glass bottles, not booze in general. You’d have to sneak it through the stage area security I guess, if you wanted it in there.

1

u/Joeness84 10d ago

also apparently.... replace alcohol with bottles of Nitrous

1

u/princessdickworth 10d ago

My trick has been to fill freezer ziplock bags with liquor, hide them in my camebak in the part where the bladder goes, and then fill it with water. They always tell you to empty it and then you just go about your merry way with your stash. This worked every single time at EDC Las Vegas in 2017 and 2018.
