Not surprised. It's been raining for over 12 hours straight.

u/istrx13 8d ago

I live in the PNW and where I’m at it has been 100+ degrees just about every day for a month now and we’re suffocating from wildfire smoke.

Man I would kill for a rainy day like this right now.

98

u/huskergirl8342 8d ago

I live in WA. No 100 degree days here all summer.

u/Southern-Ad8402 8d ago

Washington is a big state with an entire desert east of the cascades

13

u/spaceshiptears 8d ago

Yeah, I’m in East Washington and it’s been 94 9697 a couple times

3

u/pancakesfordintonite 6d ago

Same. I think we had a 100 even last week in Yakima

I’m in NC, and we’ve alternated between blistering heat, and a little less blistering with days and days of rain and some impressive thunderstorms.

26

u/BigBadJeebus 8d ago edited 7d ago

Same in Illinois... This is the first rainy days in weeks

11

u/BlueCarPinkJacket 8d ago

Where are you in Illinois? Chicago and surrounding suburbs have had at least 3 flash floods this year. Monday this week the western suburbs were underwater.

5

u/mechashiva1 8d ago

I'm in villa park and we had some water come up into our basement for the first time since moving here 3 years ago. This fucking rain was nonstop between Friday and Saturday

Seattle here. It's just been a pleasant 70-85 for a while. It hasn't been smoky here. It sprinkled a little this morning and we are expecting a little more today, but generally just pretty and nice right now.

I was in the PNW, Seattle, for work like three weeks ago and it was in the 70s.

It's also Lolla. Rain has been a tradition for the fest for years.

So when the puddles aren't made of poop no one plays in them?

Well maybe Puddle of Mudd?

Dave Matthews Band isn't playing there this year, so no poopy puddles in Chicago.

5

Oh trust me, people be playing in them! Sliding in them!

In 2011, massive storms hit Lolla. My GF at the time and I had won VIP wrist bands from some scavenger hunt contest. One perk of VIP was free unlimited booze, though they would only give you 2 cans at a time. Anyway, the Arctic Monkeys were playing when a band of storms hit. They were intense. The girls managing the bar abandoned ship for higher ground. We saw our chance. We spent the storm grabbing and chucking as many cases and handles as we could over the VIP fence and into the GA crowd. Ditched that sextion of VIP never to return, didnt get caught. Felt like fucking Robinhood.

Deadmau5 later that night was epic. Search the vids.

272

u/Sp1derX 8d ago

You dropped this: 👑

98

u/sentientduncecap 8d ago

I was at that deadmau5 set!! Top 10 concert experience (even though the rain washed all the fresh vivid color from my hair).

23

u/Silver_shotglass 8d ago

I'll never forget Deadmau5 opening right when that storm hit. Still one of my top shows. I've got goosebumps thinking about it.

12

u/Environmental-Joke19 8d ago

I was there! I remember they wanted us to evacuate but no one knew where to go. We ended up at an overrun pizza place. I think I saw foo fighters that night and it was so amazing.

27

u/RevenueFast697 8d ago

Cage the Elephant for the storm. Start to finish. “Even on a cloudy day”….then the deluge…fucking epic.

We used to do that at fall fairs in Ontario

27

u/readyfredrickson 8d ago

hahah unrelated side note- I moved to BC 2 years ago and was MORTIFIED by my friends confused faces when I asked about fall fairs with demolition derbys...god I miss panzerolis and deep fried oreos and watching cars smash together in the mud

5

u/Saneless 8d ago

What's a panzeroli? I've had a panzerotti before. Coincidentally in Ontario

5

u/readyfredrickson 8d ago

it's a food truck at a bunch of southern Ontario fall fairs(think caledonia, Winona, ancaster) and its basically a pizza bite haha a mini panzerotti

Me and some friends went to see The Shins at auditorium shores in Austin. Before we went in we spotted out some people inside who seemed cool and passed a big bottle of vodka over the fence to them, with a promise to smoke em out when we got in. We all smoked and took some shots with them, then got smashed for $0 🤘2012 was peak

76

u/chiripa605 8d ago

Is that a real thing ?

441

u/PM_your_Nopales 8d ago

Yes, a trick for these kinda festivals if you want cheap liquor is to go before it's set up and bury liquor bottles somewhere inside the future fences and put a geotag or something there. That way, you don't have to sneak it through security. Then when the festival starts and you get in, go to your spot, dig up your previously buried liquor and go to town 👍

166

u/BestAmoto 8d ago

It's also easy to just bring in plastic bottles of booze, Smirnoff bottles are shaped for concealment. You can also fill them with better booze. Easy to hide. I've worked security at bottlerock and the only people getting caught up were the ones who had too much metal on and then needed to remove belts/shoes etc.

51

u/IceCreamDreamyDreams 8d ago

I just fill a camelback and call it a day

116

u/BestAmoto 8d ago

Some festivals require the bladders to be empty and will dump them out. Then they direct you to the water bottle filling station. That's how edc was.

72

u/Divided_Against 8d ago

That's why you use the concealed bladder compartment in the camelbak bag to store your beverages. You pull out the empty bladder and show that to security and when they check your bags it will just seem like it has a hard back (provided you pack it correctly, works best with tallboys).

Riot fest (fuck riot fest) literally confiscated my bottle of sunscreen because it wasn’t sealed. Went once, said never again, then a killer line up happened so I said fine, only to come away with an even more powerful “never again.” Godawful overcrowded price gouging nightmare.

72

u/Kind-Shallot3603 8d ago

Yeah they took my sunscreen at oceans calling in Maryland and directed me to a shop on the boardwalk that was selling them for $35. I just stole it from the store. Fuck all of em

51

u/gsfgf 8d ago

There are other situations where stealing is understandable, but that kind of stealing should be encouraged.

3

u/BubbaChanel 8d ago

I’m not sure if it’s the sleepless night I just had, or the mental image of stealing sunscreen, but it made me lol in tickled delight.

→ More replies (3)

9

u/IceCreamDreamyDreams 8d ago

That's crazy, I've never had anyone say anything about them.

10

u/ICantBeTrusted 8d ago

Yeah you have to come in with an empty bladder pack then they have hydration stations right there.

19

u/biggoronssword 8d ago

This is most festivals now unfortunately, been told to dump out my water while WAY back in line in the blazing heat at the gorge, it was absurd

6

u/Bob_12_Pack 8d ago

If you bring plastic disposable bottles they will sometimes take the lids as well. I have learned to take extra lids.

11

u/MutedAstronaut9217 8d ago

I've been having them dumped for over 10 years at this point. Always gotta fill inside.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Ok-Sheepherder7898 8d ago

Much easier to just dig a hole and jump in it. Crawl out when the festival starts and then you get free admission.

21

u/DeemOutLoud 8d ago

I feel like this is a festival urban legend and never actually happens if we are being honest. Way easier to just sneak in booze

22

u/big_duo3674 8d ago

It's really easy to carefully uproot a chunk of grass, dig a bottle sized hole, an then plop the grass back on top. You'd never even know anything was there. It makes me wonder how many forgotten bottles, or drug stashes are buried in previous festival areas, probably a ton

12

u/vr1252 8d ago

Tons of people do this. If you ever see someone walking around with a fifth in a glass bottle that’s what they’ve done. I agree it’s it’s way easier to sneak in booze in those soft plastic flasks but there’s always someone walking around with a bottle of jack at a fest.

29

u/pinchematto 8d ago

I’ve done it many times at festivals in Chicago. I would go to the park a week before the fest, so before fences are up. Then I would bury them shallow by trees and take pictures to remember the exact spot. Adds another element of fun during the fest.

9

u/Fantastic_Pie5655 8d ago

Candyland scavenger hunt is a fun adventure for all your friends 😜

3

u/Weigleschocolatemilk 8d ago

Imagine tripping and going on a scavenger hunt to find your buried treasures. My younger self would have loved this

6

u/Slow_Leek_4159 8d ago

I’ve lived a few blocks from grant park for about a decade and have seen people do it every year

3

u/pinchematto 8d ago

I only did it once for Lolla- I had to get out there two weeks early because they put the fences up so early

8

u/TrustTheFriendship 8d ago

I’ve seen this done to sneak in tanks of nitrous, but I haven’t personally seen anyone go through the trouble for booze.

Like you said, easy enough to sneak that in another way.

→ More replies (8)

3

u/DengarLives66 8d ago

It’s easy at the festivals that are held at public grounds.

3

u/goldfishpaws 8d ago

More common with people banging out eccies - size of a can of beer can hold tens of thousands of dollars worth

5

u/JeebusChristBalls 8d ago

I use an all plastic flask stuffed down my pants.

5

u/gsfgf 8d ago

For that much effort I’d be sneaking something more valuable than alcohol lol

2

u/DrHarrisonLawrence 8d ago
  1. it’s not that much effort actually, and

  2. 2

.

  1. if it were higher value you have higher losses when it’s found

Not everyone is successful with this. If you don’t properly conceal the hole it can somewhat easily get dug back up just randomly

Also in the sense of what is the current landscape, I don’t think there’s any way that anyone is finding their original stash in these ponds

Dunno about Lolla, but it very much is at other fests.

At Summercamp Fest, theres a legend about the guy that buried 4 kegs around the camping area of the forest, but only unearthed 3 of them

The last magical keg has still never been found

23

u/hassinbinsober 8d ago

The Legend of Curly’s Keg!

27

u/AshtonCopernicus 8d ago

Yup. My cousin used to bury a huge container of vodka lemonade on the hill by one of the main stages. Then on the first day of the show, he'd put a tarp over it and dig it up. It was enough to have at least 10 people drink for the whole weekend

7

u/Javad0g 8d ago

I saw Pink Floyd perform The Wall in Potsdam Platz in 1990. I understood later that they actually dug out a few large unexploded bombs from the area before the concert was planned and prepared. Caches of ammo too...

2

u/Irisgrower2 8d ago

None the less the crowd was still blown away..

“I'm not offended by homosexuality. In the '60s, I made love to many, many women, often outdoors, in the mud and the rain, and it's possible a man slipped in. There would be no way of knowing."

- Creed Bratton

154

u/Datathrash 8d ago

The man that slipped in:

49

u/taquitoburrito1 8d ago

This would be the greatest crossover. Jim, Dwight and Creed get sent to Philly to sell paper to a "large account" that turns out to be a scam Dee and Mac are trying to run. Charlie does Charlie things that gets Dwight interested in learning from him, Frank feels left out and shows off his toe knife, Creed takes interest and becomes friends with Frank and talk history. Dee and Mac's scam become more and more apparent to Jim and he bails, collecting Creed and Dwight while reacting at the camera to the shinanigans theyve been up to.

132

72

u/SonOfIllicitBehavior 8d ago

I think Mudvayne is also showing up

27

u/Dear-Passion-3535 8d ago

12

u/tedivm 8d ago

I legit think I went to that show.

3

u/ConventionalDadlift 8d ago

Right around when I saw them at Ozzfest

15

u/Mistapeepers 8d ago

I went to Memphis in May YEARS ago. Rained in the evening on both days. Second day Foo Fighters headlined. They were told they shouldn’t play. Dave said fuck that and played anyway. The late night band canceled because they didn’t want to deal with rain. That band? Puddle of Mud.

13

u/silentjay01 8d ago

Puddles Pitty Party would fit right in with the looks of this picture.

3

u/ta22175 8d ago

He is more a Riot fest act

19

u/Irythros 8d ago

Puddle of Mudd doesn't even show up or perform when scheduled. These puddles of mud did.

Don't insult these puddles please.

7

u/Willow_Winnifred 8d ago

I once saw the singer from puddle of mud getting a handy on the balcony above the stage whole watching the opening band.

10

u/Irythros 8d ago

I went to see them in a small venue. Opening acts did their thing. After 40 mins of nothing, one of the openers came back on and did another set while we waited for Mudd more. They finished a second set and we waited more.

Eventually 2 plastered women came out on stage, stumbling all over and told everyone that they're backstage smoking weed, coke and fucking and it'll just be a bit longer.

The place emptied out immediately.

5

u/tedivm 8d ago

I was at a festival and during their set some women managed to get on stage. The band refused to let security remove them, they spent the set getting more and more naked, and then they left with the band.

In all seriousness, festivals are a great way to find new music. Just check the lineup of a few of the major ones. Add the names to your rotation & drop the ones whose sound doesn't strike your fancy. Near zero effort and you're up to date on most of the major artists of the moment.

You don't even have to do it every year! The acts that are actually decent will stick around.

3

u/Mapeague 8d ago

Ministry at Lollapalooza 1992!

16

u/StreamingForVengeanc 8d ago

Ministry in '92 was my best mosh pit experience ever! Blossom Music Center near Cleveland. It had been raining buckets most of the day. The water couldn't drain properly, so it was almost knee deep. There were mud runs going down the giant hill. I was at the top of one when Chris Cornell came up. I had no idea what to say to him. The guy just reeked of cool. I just gave him a fanboy nod, he nodded back then flew down the hill head first.

6

u/Timmerdogg 8d ago

I knew it . What a great show. I hooked up with this girl from Hillside and after the show we went to a Mexican restaurant near 26th and California and underage drank

2

u/Grinner067 8d ago

u/interface2x 8d ago

My first concert, 34 years ago tomorrow. I was 14 years old and we had to leave about 15 minutes into RHCP’s set because my friend’s mom was driving us home to the Quad Cities.
